Being a Friendly Invader
De către Sealer Moon și colaboratorii 1
Tips on how to be a Friendly Invader; someone who invades other players and drop items for them or open doors.

Because of soul memory, you can no longer do a low-soullevel run to get the maximum amount of players. Thus, this guide assumes that you are above 15,000,000 soul memory.

Some things about the Friendly Invader
As a Friendly Invader your goal is not to kill the host, but instead to help them or indulge them. This can be done in a few ways such as:
Dropping items such as lifegems for them
Pointing them to illusory walls
Unlock shortcuts

Some things that are important to show them that you are not here to mess with the host is using the White Ring, wearing a set (Havel's won't work!) and gesturing. A simple wave is enough.

The general tips are:

  • Always gesture.
  • Only kill in self defense unless you feel like the host deserves to get wrecked.
  • Don't waste the host’s time if it can be avoided (dancing around, spamming Great Heal, hitting them with broken equipment). Keep in mind that equipment is much more fragile in Dark Souls 2 than in the first one.
  • If the host doesn't gesture and starts attacking, it's time to leave. You're not welcome in his world.
  • If a blue phantom shows up to "assist" the host, either crystal away, befriend the blue phantom or commit seppuku with the Katana.
  • Remain calm and carry a shield. Use an illusory ring if you don't want to scare the host with it.
  • Lighting the fire sconces for the host is a nice touch!
  • Farm the Giant Lord for souls to buy orbs and consumables like arrows and lifegems for the host.
  • Place a prism stone and drop your items on top of the stone so the host can easily find the item.
  • Try and use the "No Way!" gesture when the host is buffing to let him know you don't intend to fight.
  • Use the white ring. It makes the host trust you faster.
  • Don't drop 99-item stacks or you'll find yourself spending a ton of souls after every invasion
  • Remember to grab the item back if the host decides to attack you. You don't want him to have it if he's doing that.
  • If you encounter the same host twice in a row, you can crystal out again or give him another bunch of items.
  • Give the host a chance. If you are being attacked on sight, try and gesture at least two times. If he doesn't stop, it's time to get out.
  • Use enemies to get rid of the host if he's chasing you.
  • You'll inevitably get the sinner status, so use the blue phantoms to get more Seeds of a Tree of Giants.
Dress code
The best way to earn the trust of your host is cosplaying or looking unique. To do this, you must gather all pieces of the set you wish to cosplay with, or all the pieces of different sets you wish to mix together to create a unique-looking dress.

An example of a set would be the Xanthous Set. It looks good and weird at the same time, and that is what makes you look less like a hungry Brotherhood of Blood servant; the sillier the better.

You can make your own dress, too, as long as it doesn't look like something you would wear during a regular invasion, like Havel's set.

I personally like using the Leydia White Hood, Agdayne's Black Robe, Engraved Gauntlets and Rouge Leggings for this.
Helpful things that can be dropped
The most popular item to drop during Friendly Invasions is human effigies. They are hard to get, but chances are you likely have a surplus if you've been using the ring of life protection.

Hard
Troches, fruits and Burrs are next to useless later on, but go ahead and drop some
Rotten Pine Resins

[/table]
Useful spells
Spell name
Use
Great Heal
If you didn't drink an estus before invading and you are hurt, you can use this get back to full health. You don't want to look hurt in front of the host
Warmth
Allows you to heal the host
Immolation
Cosplaying or traumatizing hosts by jumping off a cliff/jabbing the Bewitched Katana through your stomach
Profound Still
If a host starts attacking you with spells, you have one more chance to prove you are not here to kill him by silencing him and gesturing again. If he still wants you dead, run away and use the crystal to get out
Force and Wrath of the Gods
If you are trying to get away from a bitter host, but they keep following you even through hordes of enemies, using Force will stun him and tempt him to run away. After Forcing him a few times, use Wrath of the Gods. He will think you are about to use Force, so his roll will not be timed right to avoid the Wrath of the Gods blast. After he is hurt, he will likely retreat to heal, which is the perfect opportunity to crystal out
Yearn
Sometimes enemies will target the decoy rather than the host, making it useful if your host is in trouble by weaker mobs. Always works when a seed is active. Also good for marking dropped items on the ground
Repair
In case your equipment takes damage either during a Jolly Invasion or the host is trying to break your stuff
Unveil
For when you can't find the host. Doesn't work if they are camouflaged
Flash Sweat
For cosplaying or invading in places with fire traps
Chameleon
Probably doesn't need an explanation, but it can be fun to pretend to be a barrel until the host shows up
Any ranged damage spell
For Seed Adventures if you don't use a bow
Useful equipment
List of rings and weaponry that may be useful during invasions
Item
Reason
White Ring
Makes you look like a white phantom, increasing the chances that the host may see you as a friendly invader
Illusory Rings
For cosplaying and stuff
Ring of Giants
Poise is important if you are being chased by an angry host and his two minions. Keep rolling to safety and turn your back towards the wall, and they will have to break your poise to prevent you from crystaling out
Third Dragon Ring
More health, more carry weight and more stamina for spamming any spells you might be using
Silvercat Ring
If you don't want to take too much fall damage while looking for the host
Southern Ritual Ring
Attune more fun spells to use
Simpleton's Ring
Makes it easier to avoid an angry host with the agility boost and the invisible rolls
Sanctum Shield
Black Witch Staff in shield form. If you have no damaging spells, this, with or without an illusory ring, would be a good choice
Bewitched Alonne Sword
If your host doesn't accept your gift, you can tell him that your mission to help him has failed by using Immolation on yourself while stabbing yourself with the Bewitched Alonne Sword. Bonus points if he does the Have Mercy gesture. The host gets souls and you get a cool screenshot. It's a win/win
Channelers' Trident
If you break it before you invade, you can dance around without the host thinking you are buffing before a duel commences. Drop your items BEFORE you start dancing or he may just tire and try and kill you

That table chart .... it must of taken you forever labeling & organizing things.

Otherwise, great guide!! I personally follow over half of these rules... and it works out well. Sadly, people seem to hate Arbiters more than Wraiths, seeing how they immediately attack me as a Blue Sentinel and have his buddies attacking me, whereas a Wraith anything goes.

Got invaded by a white, and I was totally confused. They left me a Giants Seed but I died before eating it. When I looked up online what that was all about I think most people are pretending to be good and then they slaughter you when you least expect it.

nice guide. i remember doing lvl 10 invades in the undead parish, except i would be carrying 300,000 souls or more and die intentionally. i probably ruined the game for alot of people.

It sounds kinda like animalhusbondry, like make the cow comfy before you gut it....

As far as I respect work you put into it, I must say that invaders shouldn't be "too friendly" they have their goals, sometimes it's cool to help people as invader, like as you mentioned, open doors, maybe leave them if you see they're struggling to achieve something or try to make their death as least "painful" as possible e.g. killing near bonfire :D If you want to be so "friendly", just drop down white sign :)

How about being a friendly host?
ChunkyMilk 9 sept. 2014 la 15:10
i never pick up stuff people drop because it could be +14 stuff. i dont want to be mean but its better to stay on the safe side. also i dont want invaders to be freindly. its not necessary . still respect for the work you put into this.

The fact you had to point out the concept is stupid is pretty stupid in itself. If this is what people want to do with their time on dark souls its not like throwing an opinion about it would change anything. Besides, its actually quite amusing to get an invasion only to find out ther person doing it starts throwing prism spheres everywhere. Its a welcome change from the 3,000,000 people that spam spells, or power stance greatswords.
