By Raroject
This guide is to help make good lighting for those who don't have direct 3.0 or better, like me.

How the end result may look like:
Step 1: Setting up the scene.
Basically, add objects to create a scene on a loaded map, do this before lighting obviously (This is step one obviously) and make the scene interesting, like the image here.
Step 2: Lighting
This is probably the one people without direct 3.0 or better strugle with because you don't have volumetrics of ambient occclusion. Make sure all lights have shadow atten! Now, add a front light a few metres behind the camera so it covers the scene, like a white light, some cases yellow, red etc, depending on the mood or atmosphere. Add a side light on both sides, some cases one depending on the atmosphere like here. Add a top light, in some cases none, depending on the setting. Add bottom light, sometimes none, again depending on your setting. Add a rim light or back light, basically like an outline, add it to each main object, so props dont get any. Finally, object lighting. That is what I like to call it, it s basically lights that emit from a certain object like lamps or an orb or particles. You will probably end up with something like this:
Step 3: Camera
This should be straight forward, or not, so, I am still gonna explain, have the camera focus distance on the main character, like the scout. Make sure the the main character is in the centre or part in the centre, basically, have a balance of detail.
Conclusion
BADA-BING BADA-BOOM you hopefully have a good poster that doesn't involve volumetrics or anything that can only be run on direct 3.0 or better. Feel free to share it! I wish you can share images in the comments (unless if you can)
