Fixed Render Thread Crash!
By CarTrack and 1 collaborators
This is a fix for the famous "Render Thread" crash, which happens very frequently in some PCs.
It took me 5 days of testing different console commands and almost anything.

You need to launch the game and then face to the ground to avoid crash.
And then type these parameters in the Console:

r.ark.UseFarMaterialOverrides 0
ark.VolumeBoxOptimization 0
ark.VertexCountScaling 1
ark.NoAsyncAssetLoading 1

You need to repeat this every time you launch the game.
It works with all settings in Medium but you can set:
Advanced Graphics to High and
Effects Quality in High

For more FPS use:
r.VolumetricCloud 0

I've tested this extensively with fly mode and hasn't crashed.
My rig is an Intel i5 7400 with a GTX 1070 and 8 GB Ram.
Ask is installed into an M2 SSD.

If you cannot get past character creation screen, launch your game with -dx11 as launch param in order to create your character.
Then restart without any parameter.

Jesus, dude. A 1070? That stuff was out of date before Extinction came out.

Is there not a way to make this into a .bat and then just type the file name into the console on start up instead of typing it all every ttime?

Just adding: Using ark.VertexCountScaling 1 seems to lower GPU usage and FPS. Or at least that is what happens with my 7800 XT.

"ark.VertexCountScaling 1" alone did a lot for me. Crashing is gone and I can have my settings way higher then before.
Before that I had settings on low-medium and my GPU was at 98% constantly.
After using that command it went down to 37% and after messing around with settings just enough so the game stops looking like it's a ps1 or maybe 2 game, it went up to 45%.
According to the game I'm having 20fps, but it runs extremly smooth, as if it's more. don't understand why but I'm not complaining. :D
Mind blowing what one command can do.
I avoided, for now at least, getting a new graphics card; although I have the slight suspicion it might be on it's dying legs. On the other hand it was only acting up in ASA and one zone in WoW.
Still shouldn't have been running that horrible with a RTX 2060 SUPER.

I've been having this crash since launch, just tried these commands and it actually works perfect without crashing at all, only downside is that i lose about 20-30 fps with the ark.VertexCountScaling 1 command, but worth it IMO.

I want to help as many people as I can.
This game crashed on me every 30 seconds. Now it's crash free thanks to these settings:

GUIDE To avoid crash:
=================
Console command: ark.VertexCountScaling 1
Global Illumination Quality: Medium
Disable HLOD = ON (right down)
UI => Disable Menu Transitions (left down)

Tested extensively on a GTX 1070, should work on anything above it (make sure you turn DLSS off just in case).
