Ending Variations
The game features nine ending variations. Six of them depend on your detective skills and three on your maid skills. Since most of them can be unlocked together, it's possible to get all of them in one full and two partial playthroughs - if you follow these fourteen steps:

  1. Don't clean up the rooms until the last step (except the trash cans in room 509)
  2. Don't throw away anything on the fifth floor and in the basement until the last step.
  3. Make a save when your are in the basement for the first time.
  4. Keep the lipstick message and the note on the office door.
  5. Keep the evidence in Wendy's locker (see note below).
  6. Close all lockers before leaving the basement.
  7. In the elevator, tell Bernard that you are on break.
  8. After leaving Bernard's office, tell Bernard the truth.
  9. Return the master key when you are back in the basement.
  10. In the laundry room, read the small note in the tray (see 'Fire and Life').
  11. Make a save before using the key double to open the wooden box in room 507.
  12. Don't break the key double while opening the wooden box (otherwise load the save).
  13. After finding Mr. Cruz's body, do not step in the pool of blood at the ice machine.
  14. Make a save after restoring the power.

Now, you can reach all but one ending variations (for the last one, load the save from step #3 and remove the evidence from the locker). Please refer to the next sections for more information.

The achievements unlock during the epilogue.

Uptade to my last comment. Throwing out letters behind ice machine isn't necessary to protect Paul. All you have to do is to throw away the notebook from there (as well as stuff from his room). But I still can't do it without ,,stepping in blood", so I still think it's mandatory, even if you clearly see you didn't stepped in it.

The way I see it, there is no way to secure Paul's freedom without sacrificing your own. You *have to* throw away notebook and letters behind ice machine, and there is no way you can do it without leaving foot-prints in blood, and getting yourself arrested. I threw away literally everything else, and results were the same. I even managed to throw away the notebook without stepping in blood, and yet the game still acted as if I did just that (I assume the game just assumes that, if you touch those two pieces of evidence). And I yet to encounter a single person who would confirm (and prove) they managed to get ,,the (real?) culprit" arrested, without sending Sophie to jail. So I'd say ,,This Bed You Made" and ,,The Real Culprit?" are absolutely tied together.

They arrested me at the end of the game but I got 'The Real Culprit achievement. Weird.

How can I throw the diary without step in the blood? It seems that my Sophie always be arrested because of this. I have seen “The police asked Sophie’s feet size” as a sign of Sophie being arrested.:zagcry:

For anyone still having trouble with "Employee of the Month" or "Moving Up the Ladder", be sure to NOT clean Room 507 since you weren't supposed to be in there in the first place. Don't throw away ANYTHING except the pictures of yourself in the 505 bathroom, this includes food cans, used gloves, etc. - only things that have the *Clean* prompt. Put everything back the way you found it: close things and return items to their places. I was having trouble getting the right dialogue from Bernard at the end and these helped me, hope they help someone else!

just want to add you can get 5 of the detective skills ending at the same time stumbled upon it on accident since i touched the letter behind the blood stain or it could have been a result of me stepping on the blood stain but i still did the steps within this guide so everyone avoided prison except sw and sophie.
