HOW TO DISABLE EPIC GAMES FOREVER AND HAVE IT NEVER BOTHER YOU EVER AGAIN
By Zolton (it/her)
If you were considering not playing this game solely because of Epic Online Services, reconsider because you can completely remove all Epic malware with a few simple steps.

  • Go to Sackboy\GingerBread\Binaries\Win64,this is where you will be deleting and modifying vanilla files.

  • Delete EpicOnlineServicesInstaller.exe and eos_installscript.vdf. The former file is over 100 MB, so it is a huge waste of space! If you delete anything more, the game will not function properly. After deleting the files, your folder should look like this.

  • Open Launcher.ini in your text editor of choice (e.g. Notepad++) and change NoOperation from 0 to 1. This will stop the annoying overlay install that would otherwise happen every single time you boot up the game!

  • Now go to Sackboy\GingerBread\Content\Paks and create a new folder called ~mods. It has to be exactly named like this, it is a built-in feature of Unreal Engine that forces the game to load new paks within the folder.

  • Download the Disable Epic Online Services[gamebanana.com] mod, and put the pak in your new ~mods folder.

After you're done, enjoy your Epic-free experience with this banger platformer... Don't allow this company to let their trojan horse into our Steam games!

Side-note; If your game is crashing the moment the FMV logos end or randomly during gameplay, make sure overlays such as RivaTuner are turned off, they are super jank with this game in particular for some reason...

follow-up; I contacted the mod uploader and she reverted the update so the pak version is on the original gamebanana page so you don't need to use the dropbox link anymore

I updated the guide to include Dropbox download to the original pak version, it should show up when Steam's automated system approves of the update

Does anyone still have the old .pak file in Google Drive? Because the version available on GameBanana is 1.0.1 and that doesn't have the .pak file. I wanted to use the CyberFSR mod on my Steam Deck.

I can't find the old pak version. That's the issue.

with the old pak version, it should be possible, especially if there isn't a native Linux version of the game

Is there a way to do this on Steam Deck since the Steam Deck uses SteamOS which is based on Linux?

@Twinsen I just checked out the mod update, it seems that it has been refactored to be used in the Reloaded II [github.com] mod manager, so this guide may be outdated if the old pak version does not function with SABA.

@Zolton (it/her) I understand about the archive (which does not contain the DisableEOS.pak file, referred to in the guide, in it). What do I do with the content of the archive? Dump it in the ~mods directory (with all its directory structure)?
Zolton (it/her)  [author] 1 Apr @ 2:29pm
@Twinsen, you open 7Z and RAR files with an archive program such as 7Zip [7-zip.org].
