After the Mb-62 Kormorant lost the Navy's contract to the Lu-37 Manta, the Bureau became worried. They were the sole contractors for everything in Metalburg, but since the Duke started to bring in stuff from Lukki Inc. and MAL Industries, they needed to deal with real capitalism for once and start working on actual quality (and with a little bit less embezzlement). A new competition eventually came to replace the costly Mb-61 fighters lost in high numbers to things like "skill issue." The new design had to be cheap (50 cores maximum), stable, and fit the role of a long-range bomber escort. After months of anxiously developing their most advanced fly-by-wire, the Bureau created the otherwise rugged Mb-63 Brawler.
