Intro
These instructions currently work as of July 23th 2023.

Tinkering around with Senith09's guide and p0358's EA launcher bypass, I have found a way to run ME:LE on deck using Origin with cloud saves and achievements.

The first few steps are identical to guide.
Removing EA and installing Origin
Follow steps 1-3 on Senith09's guide to remove EA App and/or Origin.

For players who freshly installed ME:LE and have not started playing, skip to step 2 of the above guide.

UPDATED Step 2: You can also use this link to download Origin[taskinoz.com].
F*ck off EA App for Steam Deck
On desktop mode, download the latest installer from https://github.com/p0358/F*ck_off_EA_App/releases [replace * with u]. Do not the version.dll file.

Add the F*ckoff_EA_App_installer.exe as a Non-Steam Game in desktop mode

Under properties for F*ckoff_EA_App_installer.exe
  • Set launch options as
    STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="/home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1328670" %command%
  • Set compatibility as
    • GE-Proton8-3 or above
      OR
    • Proton Experimental

Run the installer through steam and check
[x] Pretend EA App is installed (so that Steam does not start its installer)

Installer should complete within seconds or shorter
Running ME:LE
  1. Return to gaming mode

  2. Under properties for ME:LE, add to launch options
    WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%

  3. Launch ME:LE
Following Senith09's guide should have you already logged into Origin.
If all steps were done correctly, you should be booted into Origin which will close shortly.
Give the steam deck ~30sec to load and ME:LE should boot.
End
Hope this guide helps, happy playing and send points

This guide has helped me get so close, but I have an issue that I haven't seen mentioned. When I hit play, Origin loads and logs me into my account, but then tells me that the game "does not appear to be installed". It definitely is, though, and I've verified the files and have tried pointing the "Game Library Location" setting in Origin to a handful of different locations, but it still won't detect the game. Any thoughts?

So i've managed to set this up and it is working when using the origin client and the F*ck EA App tool, but when i'm not connected to any network it is asking me to enter a password every time. I can enter my password and it works fine, but it is just minorly frustrating to keep inputting my password, when connected to a network it just auto logs in, but as stated when offline it always asks for a password. Have I done something wrong? Is there a fix for this?

Thanks for notifying me about the origin installer. The installer in Senith09's guide is likely the full offline installer for Origin while the ~60mb installer seems to require an internet connection to install. Updated the link for the proper Origin setup file.

Can't thank you enough for this guide, both this game and nfs payback now work offline so time to enjoy.

One small issue i personally had, i made a fresh install of ME:LE but i couldn't make your origin installer work (tried everything but nothing) but i could with the one in Senith09 guide) and everything worked perfectly.

Just curious what is difference between both installers (this one being 60.7mb and Senith's 226mb)

Again, thank you for such amazing guide:steamthumbsup::Elie:

Feb 13, 2024 - A slight variation on these instructions for the PC version of ME: LE still works 100% (including achievements). Thank you very much for this. You've saved me allot of time and effort.

Thank you for this. Finally able to play without having to worry about it freezing and then having to hard reset the steam deck

It's ridiculous that this worked. I'm a newbie to Steam so I hope I did it right and it doesn't tweak out later on... but was having issues with this game crashing after the recent EA update (game worked fine for 3 weeks before crashing after hitting 14gb of RAM)

Anyways so far so good- I did notice the first time after launching Mass Effect in game mode the Origin window popped up then disappeared and the screen went black causing me to force exit the game. But after relaunching it the game did load. I restarted my Steam Deck to try it again and it's still showing the black screen even after relaunching the app. But when I launch the game in desktop mode the game launch perfectly- Logged into my account automatically and my saved game shows.

Hopefully I can get it to work better in game mode but only thing is that it's still forcing me to use WiFi to play so not sure where I messed up? If anyone has an idea please let me know. Thx :)

whenever I try to install the origin app it tells me the installer encountered an error, error code is 20:403. I'm not sure what to do about this, I've done everything else perfectly.

When I completed all the steps until the final one, upon launching ME, Steam indicates that it cannot find the file in the launch options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="version=n,b" %command%. I'm not sure what's going on; But I'm certain the issue lies in the launch options.
