The F*UCK OFF EA Method
By NucaCola
So there's been a few ways on how to disable EA's awful new app, that infamously prevents players from unlocking MELE's achievements on Steam in ME2 and ME3. A lot of them have multiple steps, ask you to save backups in case you screw up, delete certain annoying files and on and on...

Fortunately I found a much better, quicker, and most importantly EASY method of getting this taken care of! May I introduce the "♥♥♥♥ Off EA App" patch!

https://twitter.com/p0358/status/1672383802767814657 (click on the link to twitter, and then the link from the post onto gifhub, why? Because Steam doesn't like links with swear words in them)

Essentially what it does, is that it piggy backs off of the original EA Origin launcher that EA has now abandoned, runs certain scripts and auto checks a few boxes that both Origin AND Steam look for when launching MELE, making sure that Origin runs without bothering you to upgrade, and prevents Steam for looking for the new EA app as well! JUST MAKE SURE TO INSTALL THIS INTO THE SAME PLACE AS YOU HAVE ORIGIN!

What I simply did was create a clean install of MELE, DON'T RUN THE GAME YET, install the old Origin app, a link to a download is available in the provided github link above, than install the ♥♥♥♥ off EA App patch, MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE BOX FOR THE EA APP, that's what tricks Steam into not checking for the new app, and run the game. Now this might be different for others, but for my experience, the popup for the new EA app DID show up, but after I canceled out of everything, NOT installing it, NOT signing in ect, Origin popped up, and after logging in, MELE booted right up, and picking up where I left off in ME2, I played a loyalty mission to completion, and I got the achievement!

NO messing around with files, NO complicated methods, NO fuss, NO sweat! GET IT WHILE IT'S HOT FOLKS!

I figured out that it is the launcher itself. I ended up finding the Custom Launcher on the Nexus site and it helped alleviate the crashing. You are absolutely awesome OP thanks for the guide!

I've followed all the steps above and the game thankfully bypasses the EA app, however now after it goes through booting up Origin and then getting past the Bioware splash screen my game closes itself. I've tried disabling the Steam overlay and a number of other solutions to no avail unfortunately.

Hm, interesting. The only anti-virus I'm using is the one that comes installed on Windows. Windows defender or something. I'll try again tomorrow.

It's not, that's your anti-virus acting up

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Maybe I can get Frosty Mods to work again for DAI and MEA now. The EA App pretty much killed the ability to play with mods.
