Two simple steps to run Garry's Mod on macOS 10.15+ - Intel / M1

Lots of tutorials are unclear or missing steps. Maybe this will help someone. I've been playing for years since Apple killed 32-bit support, and this terse solution should work for everyone regardless of their processor or macOS release.

Adjusting Properties
  • go to your Steam Library
  • right-click Garry's Mod -> Properties -> Betas
  • Select x86-64 from the dropdown
  • close Properties
Patching The Chromium Embedded Framework
  • download the latest release of this tool for macOS: GModCEFCodecFix[github.com]
  • open your terminal emulator, and run the following:
    cd ~/Downloads; chmod +x GModCEFCodecFix-macOS
  • in Finder, navigate to your Downloads folder and right-click and Open GModCEFCodecFix-macOS. You may have to try twice before it let's you bypass Gatekeeper.
You may have to repeat this step on rare occasion after an update to Garry's Mod is applied if you notice launch issues or broken menus. My addons have never caused an issue.
