Description
Makes possible saving maps via the Chapi's Map Editor and loading these maps in mods.
Example map and region mod is "Test Mod Map". It is just a modified existing map for a new region.

The mod adds new mod items: "Map" and "Biome". The map item defines a map, which is a part of a specific region (e.g. Sobrious, Desertum, Saltu). In order to create a new region, the existing mod item Region has to be used. The link between the region and the maps is defined by the "Biome Group" property in the map mod item. Here comes the need of the biome mod item. The "biome" term does not define a new Region, but something specific for the random map generator. The only thing useful in this mod item is the group of the preset. These relations can be seen in the example mod "Test Mod Map".

Map creation workflow:
  • Create a mod item map. The mod item ID is the map name. Copy an existing map from RandomMap group, if you are not familiar with the map properties.
  • Ensure that you have the Chapi's map editor. Go to the mod editor map and hit F5. A list with maps will be displayed, and double clicking it should load that map.
  • Open the map editor with F3 (it will be an EMPTY map).
  • Reload the map using Ctrl-F5 to disable game logic.
  • Edit the map (terrain, objects, effects, etc).
  • Hit "Save Loaded Map" to save it.
  • Exit the map editor by hitting F3 again and reload the map via Ctrl-F5 to test it.

In order to edit an existing NOT modded map, it has to be first converted to a modded map. To do so, the map mod item has a button "Import Loaded Map", below the "Copy From" property. It copies the currently loaded map into the modded map location. The map has to be reloaded into the map editor before convertion is possible.

Attention: creating new maps for an existing region would change the existing seeds! Therefore new maps need to have a new region.
The link between the maps and the regions is called BiomeGroup.

It seems that the last game update has broken something in the Map editor mod :( I cannot activate it anymore.

Amazing one more thing and i think ill be good sorry for being a noob but can you explain in detail how to create a Mod Item Map? i think this is the part where im screwing something up. also again thank you so much for the help!

Any existing map can now be exported as a modded map via a new button in th emap mod item. I could not reproduce the black screen issue though.

Will do. In the meantime, check the game logs for errors. Also copying the properties of an existing map, wont copy the map itself. I have to see if this could be done somehow. Currently you will have an empty map to create from scratch.

Gonna be honest been trying to use this mod for over 2 hours and no luck! If possible can you make a more detailed tutorial or youtube vid? i follow the steps. 1. dupe the map or mod item ID. 2. Press F3 and then F5 and try to load the map and just get a black screen. Im trying to make an island over water with only one way on and off so im using Sobrious_river_2 as well. Maybe im just not educated enough on how to do it or make a new region so please any help would be amazing. Thank you
