What is the issue?
Essentially a ton of people experience constant and heavy stutters in-game, which can be missinterpreted as low fps.
What is Special K
Lovingly referred to as the Swiss Army Knife of PC gaming, Special K does a bit of everything. It is best known for fixing and enhancing graphics, its many detailed performance analysis and correction mods, and a constantly growing palette of tools that solve a wide variety of issues affecting PC games.

Why Special K over other solutions?
There are guides that makes use of Project Lasso, but this program is only a trial, and after a couple days you will have to pay in order to keep using.
This solution is entirely free
Configuring Special K
  • Downloading
On the official page, just click the download button, it will prompt the download of a file named SpecialK.exe

  • Installing
    Simply double click the .exe

  • After installation
Start the program, and make sure that Strangers of Paradise appears on the list

  • Configuring
    Press the "Launch" button

Once inside the game, you will see a header appear on top of your screen, making you know this way that special K is correctly running on the background.

As stated, press "CTRL + SHIFT + BACKSPACE" to open the configuration menu

    • Inside this menu, expand "Framerate Limiter"
    • Expand the "Advanced" option on the right side
    • Check the option "Sleepless Render Thread"
    • Check the option "Sleepless Window Thread"
    • Close the menu, you are done!

Do I have to launch the game with Special K every time?
Short answer is yes, BUT, you can automate the process and let steam take care of this on it's own.

How?

Pretty simple, go to your game configurations, and on the launch options put:
SKIF %COMMAND%

And just like that, now the game will always start with Special K, and your stutter fix!

Hope this helps you all! Enjoy!
Okay, I don't like this, how do I remove it?
If you went halfway through, feel that it's invasive, stopped playing Strangers of Paradise, or simply doesn't work for you. You can remove this pretty easily.

  • Remove the launch option (If added)
  • Go to your Windows Control Panel, and uninstall SpecialK
  • Thats it! :)

This solved the issue for me. Thank you so much.
Team ninja games for yah... I had a similar issue with Nioh back in the day where it ran AWFULLY at first... Then found a fix in the steam forums and it ran like God damn butter after that. And I was playing on a PC with a 1060 max Q at the time

Ok so, my game was also freezing when opening the Menu of SpecialK like the guy below me. I fixed it, if anyone else is also getting that issue-

Change the ingame setting to- Borderless Window. And then go into SpecialK menu and expand Window management and check Borderless and Fullscreen Borderless. That should do it. This thing doesn't work on fullscreen at least for me.

Wouldn't capping the framerate through the nvidia control panel or Rivatuner have the same effect?

To all those that are still having framerate issues, I found a potential solution within Special K. Go into the main Special K menu (CTRL+Shift+Backspace), then go to Compatibility Settings and press “Disable All But the Active API.”

Enabling sleepless window/render thread causes the UI to start bugging out for me in non-intrusive but very inconvenient ways. Didn't seem to make a meaningful performance impact I was hoping for either, which would've made the issues easier to look past. This is probably just caused by my own user error though, nothing against your guide. Just posting this in case anyone else experiences odd UI freezes and hangups as a result of this.

PS: Texture modding on this game is possible. Enable D3D11 Deferred mode and just...do it like any other game. Though fair warning, the reported/dumped texture formats ARE WRONG.
You'll have to keep restarting the game and testing until you figure out the right texture formats for the game. I don't know what is which, besides a select few. Hope it helps others, and it would be nice if someone could find more:
- dumped BC3 is actually BC1
- dumped BC1 is actually BC3

Why is this just not an update to the game?
