How to fix your CPU core utilization and temps on Intel 13th series and maybe other CPUs.
By Zoey
**Update 3** Decided to just upload to Nexus. I prefer a place that wouldn't need people to register but those sites always delete after sometime.

**UPDATE 2** Added a fix for those who have issues with menus when using the script. All thanks to Naerki for finding this method.

**UPDATE** While the solution works below I have found an alternative fix. Upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 resolved the issue for me without the use of my script. However if you don't wish to upgrade windows then my script remains the best known fix.

Is this game even in menus acting like a stress test would to your CPU? Core utilization and temps insanely high and making your fans go insane? Well this may just be the fix for you. So far this was only tested with a Core i9 13900k but if you are having similar issues and this works for you and another CPU please leave a comment so I can add it to a confirmed working list.

Download this script I made https://www.nexusmods.com/totalwarthreekingdoms/mods/186/

Don't worry its just a .txt file.

Unzip Place it in here...

C:\Users\***yourusername***\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\ThreeKingdoms\scripts

so for example for me it is C:\Users\zoey\AppData\Roaming\The Creative Assembly\ThreeKingdoms\scripts

Simply run the game and the issue should be resolved. The temps for me now hit the low 30's in the menus and less intense moments of the game and in battle benchmarks hit low 40's. Where as before core 5 would sometimes hit 100C with core 4 not too far away.

If you having performance issues in menus still you can try Naerki's fix. Start the game, open task manager, find the game's process, go under details, Set Affinity, Select to use all cores. A very special thanks to Naerki for finding this solution.

No idea why CA couldn't just put out an opt in 1KB size patch to better support modern CPUs. Again I cannot stress enough if this works for you on any CPU please leave a comment listing your CPU.

@Red Shogun. I can't promise that it would but it should. WH 1,2,3 should all be compatible with this fix.

@devious goon

What CPU and OS are you on?

Also if you are having issues with menus try Naerki's fix as well. (I personally do not have issue but other seem to) which is also described above.

@Naeki You are the second person to alert me of the menu issue. I myself do not experience it and cannot recreate it. But thank you so much for finding out what worked for you. I will add it to the guide and give you full credit.

Playing with a i5-14600k, had this same issue, crazy CPU usage. I tried this fix, and it stopped the CPU usage problem but gave me awful performance, stuttering and 10FPS in the main menu. I also had to go in the Task Manager every time I start the game, go under details, and Set Affinity for Three_Kingdoms.exe to use all cores. That and your fix are what finally made it playable
