Useful Commands, Binds, and Launch Options
By Pandæmonium
In this guide I will show you some of my favorite Commands, Binds, Launch options, and useful commands in general.
This guide can do all sorts of things, like change your client's tickrate, set your FPS, define an autoexec, and adjust technical settings, crosshair settings, binds, viewmodel, voice commands, etc..

This is quite an extensive list of commands, and will cover almost every thing worth mentioning. If I did forget something, and I most probably did. Write it in the comment section and I will get to it. Enjoy.. Don't forget to rate and favorite. :)

Launch options
I will show you some useful launch options in this section.
To add launch options to CSGO, simply follow:

  • Open Steam and enter your Library;
  • Right click on CS:GO and choose Properties;
  • Choose the tab General and then add commands;
  • Enter commands of your choice, press OK, and launch the game.

Commands and their use:

-windowed : This command makes your game launch in windowed mode, this is useful if you are a 4:3 player like me and wish to play in windowed full screen so you can ALT+TAB out of the game quickly.

-noborder : This command is usually paired with -windowed, this basically removes the border around the window of the game, very useful when you want to play in windowed full screen.

-novid : This command skips the loading screen of CSGO.

+fps_max 0 : This is actually a console command that you can use as a launch option. It removes the FPS cap that is enabled by default. This is mostly an old news command by now, but I have included it for newer players, also I will show how to add it in an autoexec.cfg file later in the guide, or use the section tab to jump there.

+fps_max_menu 0 : Very similar to fps_max, this is also a console command, but can be used also in launch options, it just removes the FPS cap in the main menu.

-full / -fullscreen : The game will launch in full screen mode, in reality, playing any game on fullscreen will give you a bit more FPS, but I prefer windowed 4:3

-w / -width 1920 (you can put any number) : This allows you to set your own custom resolution, or to force a certain resolution. I don't know who still uses it, but here you go. And also goes to say this goes hand to hand with the -height command.

-h / -height 1080 (you can put any number) : This is exactly like -width. This sets the height of the game or window.

-high : CS:GO gets the highest priority from the computer.

-refresh 240 (you can put the number your monitor supports, not more) : This command selects how many times the pixels on the monitor will be refreshed per second, it's useful to force the game to refresh depending on your monitor's refresh rate.

-lv : This command removes blood and thus reduces the load on your computer, I personally don't use it.

+exec autoexec.cfg : This is a useful command to force the game to execute your autoexec.cfg file every time you launch your game, this is good if you have commands that you want to make sure are working every time you start the game. Later in the guide I will show how to create an autoexec.cfg file and how to use it, or use section to jump right to it now.

Obviously there is way more commands, but I personally find those the most useful and a lot of the other commands that are on the net are deprecated now and can't be used.
What is autoexec and how to create one
An autoexec is basically a personal config file that you put in the game’s files with your own personal settings (such as cross hair settings, buy binds, sensitivity, and so on) so that the game automatically loads these settings each time you start up the game, instead of doing it manually every time.

To create an autoexec file, it's really simple. (I recommend downloading notepad++ and use that, but it can be done with any note editor)

  • Step 1: Go to your Steam library and right click on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Then click on ‘Properties‘ and after that click ‘Browse Local Files‘.
  • Step 2: Double click on ‘csgo‘, then go to ‘cfg‘. You’ll see a long list of files and documents, but don’t worry about that.

  • Step 3: Right click somewhere that’s not a file and click ‘New‘ -> ‘Text Document‘. You should name this ‘autoexec.txt‘ when you make it.
  • Step 4: Open your brand new autoexec.txt file and write your favorite commands, or commands I will be showing in the guide below.
  • Step 5: Once you’re all done writing your autoexec lines, press ‘File‘ -> ‘Save As‘. You now need to name the file ‘autoexec.cfg‘ (it’s really important that you check your spelling) and save it as ‘All Files‘.
  • Step 6: Your autoexec is now ready. You’ll find that your old .txt file is still there, but you can delete that if you want since you can directly edit your autoexec using Notepad++ by right clicking and clicking ‘Edit with Notepad++’.

Now your autoexec needs to launch every time you launch the game, so navigate to your Steam library again.

  • Right click ‘Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’.
  • Click ‘Properties’.
  • Click ‘Set Launch Options’.
  • Write ‘+exec autoexec.cfg’ and then click ‘OK’.
  • You’re all set!

Another way to run your CFG file which I prefer over the launch option method is opening your console once you are in game, and type in the console : exec autoexec

Yup, that's it. Now you have an autoexec file, go to the next section for commands and binds.

Console Commands
Let's talk about console commands, and why they are useful. Here you can do pretty much anything you want in the game, and if you aren't playing on an official server or a community server, for example a workshop or a bot match, you can use even more commands! To begin with some of the most common and useful commands.

  • cl_showfps [0-1] : This command allows you to see FPS in your top right corner of the screen, if you set it to "1" it will show FPS, "0" is disabled, and anything from 2 to 5 will show you additional information and metrics.

  • cl_radar_always_centered : This command centers the radar and allows you to see the whole map once you set it to "1".

  • cl_show_team_equipment : This command allows you to see the equipment of your teammates when set to “1”. This can be useful for coordinating strategies. Set “0” if you don’t need this. You can see the equipment through walls as well.

  • cl_righthand 0 : Viewmodel commands like this change how your character looks on screen. In this case, using “0” places the weapon in the character’s left hand. A value of “1” is the default right hand. I will be showing an extensive list of viewmodel commands and examples later on check the viewmodel section.

  • net_graph 1 : This is probably one of my favorite commands. This command gives you instant access to ping, frame rate, and other data so you can see if lag or other system issues are holding.

  • voice_enable 0 : An important command for your super clutch moments when your teammates are singing Never Gonna Give You Up and you need to focus. This command mutes your teammates, and I will show you how to bind this so you can do this on the fly without having to write it every time. Check the binds section.

  • voice_scale [value] : You know when your teammates are just too loud even if they are being helpful? Well you don't want to mute, but you want to lower their voice sound, you can use this command. Just write the command and put the value. 0 being muted and 1 being 100%. I prefer 0.2 but you can choose whatever makes you comfortable.

  • r_cleardecals : This command clears the blood, the bullet holes, etc.. It's useful because sometimes it gets too much and you can't see. I will show you how to bind this in the bind section.

  • r_drawparticles 0 : This command disables the generation of small particles during a game, directly shedding the load from the system for a smooth gameplay experience.

  • mat_disable_bloom 1 :This command disables the bloom effect, reducing further system load and improving gameplay.

  • cl_use_opens_buy_menu 0 : I love this command because it stops the button "E" from opening the buy menu, or whatever your use key is, but for most of us it's "E", no more accidental buy menus.

  • mm_dedicated_search_maxping [ping value] : This command helps players to adjust the ping to a lower value from the default ‘80’, slightly improving your ping during matchmaking process. I do have a guide for this command alone, you can check it out.

  • hud_scaling [value] : This command can be used to adjust the size of the game interface elements and lies between 0.5 to 0.95.

  • sensitivity [value] : Quite obvious this one, but it allows you to change sensitivity quickly.

  • fps_max [value] : This commands allows you to adjust the max fps you get in game, now this is important for a few reasons, if your screen for whatever reason is screen tearing, it's best to match your fps with your screen refresh rate, or above it a little. If you are getting low FPS, but you know your system is capable, check this command, it's probably what's holding you back.

  • fps_max_menu [value] : This is the same as fps_max, but for the menu FPS, if you care about that?

  • This is a useful command to see how much damage you did in a round after you die to the enemies so you can give info to your teammates, you can see the damage numbers in the console right after you die, and it will display name of enemy as well. I highly recommend this to be in your autoexec.cfg file.

    developer 1
    con_enable "1"
    con_filter_text "Damage Given"
    con_filter_text_out "Player:"
    con_filter_enable "2"

  • disconnect : This command is used to leave a server. After entering, you will be taken back to the game’s main menu.

  • quit : When you type this command into the console and press Enter, the game will be closed, and you will return to your desktop.

Those are some of the important commands, I will be showing the rest in other sections.
SV Cheats / Bot Commands
These are commands for when you are in a workshop map or against bots, they are fun and some can be useful to practice as well.

  • sv_cheats 1 : This command will enable cheats and is essential to enable. Some of the commands that will be listed below require sv_cheats to be turned on.

  • noclip : This command will let you fly around the map and go through walls. This will allow you to get from place to place faster, and is the most useful command for practicing grenade lineups. Noclip is a toggle command, meaning that you will just need to retype “noclip” into the console to turn it on and off.

  • sv_grenade_trajectory 1 : This command will show the trail of the grenades that you throw, including smokes and flashbangs. This is the perfect command to use when learning grenade lineups.

  • mp_startmoney 20000: This command will let you start with the maximum amount of money so that you can immediately buy whatever you want.

  • mp_maxmoney 99999 : You know, max monee.

  • mp_afterroundmoney [value] : Determines the total that players get at the end of matches.

  • mp_freezetime 0 : This command will make the freeze time at the start of each round go from 15 to 0. This command is amazing to use in 1v1 lobbies, so that you don’t have to wait 15 seconds after every 1v1 round ends. This command saves so much time as the freeze time could take a longer time than an actual 1v1 round itself. (This is probably my favorite command from when I used to 1v1 a lot)

  • mp_roundtime 60 : This command will change the duration of each round to 60 minutes. This command is extremely useful for practice lobbies as you will have almost unlimited time to test things out. If this command isn’t turned on, then the rounds will keep ending after 2 minutes which can be very annoying.

  • mp_roundtime_defuse 60 : This command goes hand in hand with mp_roundtime 60 and you should use both.

  • mp_roundtime_hostage 60 : This is for hostage maps.

  • mp_warmup_end 1 : This command immediately ends the warmup session, which is very useful as it can save you 5 minutes of your time. It's great for 1v1 sessions.

  • mp_maxrounds [value] : The number of rounds in a match.

  • mp_timelimit [value] : A time limit for the whole game, in minutes.

  • mp_limitteams 0 : This disables the check for team balance, so if T Side was 3 players and the CT side was only 2, by default T side can't add more players, but this disables that check.

  • mp_autoteambalance 0 : And this is important and goes hand to hand with mp_limitteams because even if you were able to add players or bots, the game will auto balance, this stops it. So if you had 4 on T side, and 2 on CT, the next round would be 3 on each team. This stops it.

  • mp_buytime 9999 : Buy time is infinite and you can buy whenever instead of the 20 second window.

  • mp_buy_anywhere 1 : This allows you to buy from anywhere.

  • mp_friendlyfire 1 : Allows teammates to shoot each other.

  • mp_respawn_on_death_ct 1 : Counter-terrorists immediately respawn after death.

  • mp_respawn_on_death_t 1 : Terrorists immediately respawn after death.

  • mp_restartgame 1 : To restart the game. I pretty much recommend this command almost after any command, usually you want to type all the commands you want, and once done restart the game (will restart only match don't worry) for the commands to take affect.

  • ammo_grenade_limit_total 5 : Increases your nades limit.

  • mp_free_armor 1 : All the players get Kevlar + Helmet at the start of matches.

  • bot_add : Add a bot to a team with a lack of players.

  • bot_add_ct : Add a bot to the counter-terrorists team.

  • bot_add_t : Add a bot to the terrorists team.

  • bot_kill : Kill all the bots.

  • bot_stop : Make all the bots freeze.

  • bot_dont_shoot : Bots stop shooting.

  • bot_knives_only : All the bots use knives only.

  • bot_pistols_only : All the bots use pistols only.

  • bot_all_weapons : Every weapon becomes available for bots.

  • bot_zombie 1 : All the bots turn into “zombies,” staying indifferent to the events around them.

  • bot_difficulty [value] : Changes the level of skill for the bots. The value 0 is the lowest, and the value 2 is the highest mastery.

  • bot_mimic 1 : Bots copy all the actions of your character.

  • bot_crouch 1 : All the bots crouch.

  • bot_kick : Kicks all bots.

  • god : Godmode. Makes you invincible. You won’t take any damage at all.

  • sv_infinite_ammo : Gives you infinite ammo.
    0: no infinite ammo
    1: infinite ammo with no relead
    2: infinite ammo with reload

  • r_drawothermodels 2 : Basically wallhacks LOL, you can see players through walls, obviously only works in bot matches or workshop. Don't even bother trying in official server matches.

  • sv_showimpacts 1 : Impact marker. Default 0.

  • give weapon_[weapon name] : This command gives you any gun anytime, it's useful and fun. I could've wrote the entire list but it will be very annoying for you guys to scroll through.

  • give item_kevlar : Gives you kevlar.

  • give weapon_hegrenade : Gives you a HE Grenade.

  • give weapon_flashbang : Gives you a flashbang.

  • give weapon_smokegrenade : Gives you a smoke grenade.

  • give weapon_molotov : Gives you a molowtov.

  • give weapon_incgrenade : Gives you an incendiary grenade.

  • give weapon_taser Gives you a Zeus x27 taser.

  • give weapon_knife_karambit : Gives you a karambit.

  • give weapon_knife_flip : Gives you a flip knife.

  • give weapon_knife_m9_bayonet : Gives you an M9 bayonet.

  • give weapon_knife_gut : Gives you a gut knife.

  • weapon_knifegg : Gives you a gold knife.

    *Note : if you can't pick up knifes use this command
    ent_fire weapon_knife addoutput "classname weapon_knifegg"
    After you use you can pick up knifes now and can use the other knife commands.

  • host_timescale [value] : This is so much fun, it basically gives you speedhacks, 5 is the highest you can put and 0.5 makes it slow mo.

  • host_framerate [value] : This is a different type of speedhack or slowmo and it's really good. 50 is speedhack and 500 is slowmo, you can go lower or higher.

  • perfui : Level performance tool. This is fun as well.

Those are the really useful ones, if there is other commands you'd like me to add or something you want to do, but don't know how, ask in the comments and I might know a command for it.

Crosshair Commands
Now, let's get to the crosshair commands. These commands are quite useful and nice for quick changes mid match instead of going to a workshop or the settings. Older CS players were not privileged with the crosshair settings we have today, so some of us memorized them haha.

  • crosshair 0 : This is a command for the Dark Souls players of the world, who like everything difficult. Removes the crosshair. With the value 1, the command returns to the standard view (crosshair 1).

  • cl_crosshairstyle [value] : The style of the crosshair; the values here are: 0 for the default, 1 for the static default, 2 for the classic crosshair (as in CS 1.6), 3 for the dynamic classic, 4 for the static classic crosshair, 5 for a static crosshair when running and dynamic when shooting and personally my favorite.

  • cl_crosshaircolor [value] : The color of the crosshair. The available values are: red (0), green (1), yellow (2), dark blue (3), light blue (4), and custom (5).
    To set the custom color, enter the three following commands: cl_crosshaircolor_r 0–255 – shade of red, cl_crosshaircolor_g 0–255 – shade of green; cl_crosshaircolor_b 0–255 – shade of blue.

  • cl_crosshairsize [value] : The length of the crosshair’s lines. The min value is 0.5.

  • cl_crosshairthickness [value] : The thickness of the crosshair’s lines. The min value is 0.5.

  • cl_crosshairgap [value] : The size of the gap between lines in the crosshair. The value 0 is the default. You can also use a negative number.

  • cl_crosshairdot 1 : Add a dot in the center of the crosshair. Enter the commands cl_crosshairsize 0 and cl_crosshairdot 1, and you’ll get only the dot instead of the usual crosshair;

  • cl_crosshair_drawoutline 1 : Draws a dark outline in the crosshair.

  • cl_crosshair_outlinethickness [value] : Thickness of the outline. The available values are 0–3.

  • cl_crosshairusealpha 1 : Activates transparency.

  • cl_crosshairalpha 0-255 : Saturation of transparency; this command works only after entering cl_crosshairusealpha 1.

  • cl_crosshair_t : With this command, you can remove the top line of your crosshair so it will look like a letter T. There are just two options:
    cl_crosshair_t 0 - normal crosshair
    cl_crosshair_t 1 - without top line

  • cl_crosshair_sniper_width [value] : This changes the thickness of the scope lines.

That's just about it. Enjoy.

Viewmodel Commands
This section will show you how to change your FOV and viewmodel to your preference. I will also demonstrate some examples.

  • viewmodel_offset_x [-2.5 to 2.5] : This changes how far right or left your weapon is.

  • viewmodel_offset_y [-2 to 2] : This changes how close your weapon is to your screen.

  • viewmodel_offset_z [-2 to 2] : This changes how far up or down your weapon is on the screen.

  • viewmodel_fov [54 to 68] : This changes your field of view, from the default of 60. Your setting here should depend upon how close you sit to your screen.

  • viewmodel_recoil [0 to 1] : This setting changes how much recoil you’ll experience when being shot, from a default of 1. I recommend this at 0 all the time, no matter your viewmodel.

  • viewmodel_presetpos [1, 2 or 3] : This sets your viewmodel to a preset configuration. These options are 1 (desktop), 2 (couch), and 3 (classic).

  • cl_righthand [0 or 1] : This command changes whether your weapon is in your left or right hand. Many players won’t even know this exists, but it can actually help you learn how to get better at CS:GO. Plenty would actually be better using the gun in the left hand but have never given it a try.

  • cl_bobamt_lat [0.1 to 2] : This affects how much your gun moves side to side as you move, from a default of 0.4. The higher the number, the more your gun moves.

  • cl_bomb_lower_amt [5 to 30] : This command affects how much your weapon barrel moves towards the player when you move, from a default of 21.

  • cl_bobamt_vert [0.1 to 2] : This changes how much your CS:GO viewmodel and gun barrel move up and down when you move, from a default of 0.25.

Here is some examples of a changes viewmodel on a 4:3 screen that's stretched.

While there is more commands that can be used, most of them require sv_cheats to be on, so useless and they don't make much of a difference. Those are the most useful viewmodel commands. Especially the first 5.
Binds
Here I will touch on the topic of binds, and share with you what I think is good or useful.

The syntax or the command for the bind is simple:

bind ["Bind Key"] ["Bind Command"]
An example would be : bind "mwheeldown" "+jump"

Now that you have an idea of how a bind works, I will share with you some binds.

Mouse wheel jumps, they are probably the most common and famous binds, they are super useful for BHOPPING you know, phoon style.

To do a mouse wheel jump bind simply put the following in your console or what I recommend is putting this in your autoexec.cfg file so it working for sure every time.

bind "mwheeldown" "+jump"
bind "mwheelup" "+jump"

There you go, now you can jump with mouse wheel up and down, obviously you can choose one of them if you want. This also keeps your spacebar jump.

This is bind for the C4 so you drop the C4 immediately without having to switch to it or even press the drop button. You can drop the C4 immediately without switching from your weapon.

bind "x" "use weapon_c4;drop"

Obviously you can change the key, but I like x haha.

This is a bind for AWPers, you can switch from knife back to AWP immediately with just this bind. Though, I'm pretty sure in CS2 it won't work. Let's find out. For now it still works and I use it.

alias "+knife" "slot3"
alias "-knife" "lastinv"
bind "q" "+knife"

Also, you can use multiple of it at the same time if you want multiple keys to do the same function, for example I have 2 of that bind for 2 different keys.

alias "+knife" "slot3"
alias "-knife" "lastinv"
bind "MOUSE5" "+knife"

That's just a way to have same bind for multiple keys.

Also, you remember the r_cleardecal command to remove all the blood and stuff? You can bind it. Now this one is interesting because some people would bind it to a repetitive key, like "Shift" "W" "A" "S" "D" so that it's constantly clearing decals.I don't like it, and I think you should use one key that's not normally used so you can clear decals when you want only. The reason behind this, is sometimes I get confused if I hit a shot, and the splatter of blood helps me tell if I did actually hit an enemy or not. That's why I just use the key "N" and press it when I don't need the blood anymore. But it's personal preference and you can do it however you want.

If it's just one key it would look like this:

bind "n" r_cleardecals

Multiple keys:

bind "w" "+forward;r_cleardecals";
bind "a" "+moveleft;r_cleardecals";
bind "d" "+moveright;r_cleardecals";
bind "s" "+back;r_cleardecals";
bind "MOUSE1" "+attack;r_cleardecals";
bind "shift" "+speed;r_cleardecals";

Now this is made so that it clears decals if you walk in any direction, if you shoot and if you shift walk.

You can also bind the team mute button, so if you are clutching or team is just to annoying in general, hit the mute button and enjoy. It's a toggle bind which means you need just 1 key bind to switch between on and off.

bind "RCTRL" "toggle voice_enable 0 1"

Choose any key, I personally like right control.

There is also grenade binds, you know so you become a pro player. Instead of scrolling through the nades one by one, you can simply switch the nade you want immediately.

bind "z" "use weapon_flashbang";
bind "x" "use weapon_smokegrenade";
bind "c" "use weapon_hegrenade";
bind "v" "use weapon_molotov;use weapon_incgrenade"

Can be changed to whatever you want.

If you are a user of the left hand or right hand model and you like switching between them depending on the situation, here is a bind for it.

bind "V" "toggle cl_righthand 0 1"

If you practice a lot and like using the noclip, you can bind it quickly.

bind "p" "sv_cheats 1; noclip"

How about increasing volume while you are shift walking? I don't use that one but you could though.

Usually, when you're walking (holding the SHIFT key), you're trying to be quiet, but you're also probably trying to listen for enemies unaware of your position making footsteps or other noises. That's where this bind comes in handy. This bind will raise your game volume when you are holding the SHIFT key, which will make it much easier to hear noises that usually go amiss from your ears because they're too quiet. As soon as you stop walking (holding the SHIFT key), your volume will return to normal.

alias +incvol "incrementvar volume 0 2 0.5;+speed";alias -incvol "incrementvar volume 0 2 -0.5;-speed";bind SHIFT +incvol

Those are the binds I can think of now that are useful, obviously you can look for other or make your own since you know how now!

Also, I didn't forget about the jump throw bind, but that's a bind I'm sure is going to be removed in the new CS2, because there will be a replacement. So I didn't put it here.

Also, again, I know this isn't the CFG section, but I want to mention a few things and a few commands. Right off, I think all of those commands here in this section should be in a autoexec.cfg file if you use any of them. And a few other commands that I think should be in autoexec file are.

To see how much damage you did in a round after you die.

developer 1
con_enable "1"
con_filter_text "Damage Given"
con_filter_text_out "Player:"
con_filter_enable "2"

To see team equipment.

+cl_show_team_equipment

Your viewmodel settings if you did any changes. (The below is mine for 4:3 stretched)

viewmodel_fov 68
viewmodel_offset_x 0.2
viewmodel_offset_y -0.5
viewmodel_offset_z -1.5
viewmodel_recoil 0

Max out the FPS.

fps_max 0
fps_max_menu 0

Stop the use key from opening the buy menu.

cl_use_opens_buy_menu "0"

That's it, I think that literally should cover everything about commands and binds and all that stuff haha.
