Practice and trial and error really, I pencil a very rough sketch (laser pencil or spray paint) spray some base colours and go in with details with spray and the other paints, I'll have the picture I'm copying from on my other screen, I'm my own biggest critique too, so I'll sit and refine it again and again until I'm happy with it. The sketch for this one looks absolutely nothing like how it does now haha. Experiment and have fun with the tools
As long as it makes you happy, that's all that matters!
