SkyMind Network [SM]

SkyMind Network is a full mod originally designed and created by ARandomKiwi and others for Android Tiers++, a sub mod for Android Tiers. It implements a wireless communication system for pawns for the transfer of consciousness of pawns and the use of servers to give connected pawns skills, to protect against attacks, and to hack other factions for colony gains.

It is now fully standalone with compatibility for several mods like Rimatomics, Rimefeller, and of course Mechanical Humanlikes. It only has Harmony as a dependency.

Notice of Discontinuation
A severe and intractable flaw in the core design of this mod was discovered that can cause destabilization with the relationship trackers of pawns when surrogates are used. I have long been disillusioned with the design of SkyMind, and my interest in maintaining it has fully eroded in the face of the fundamental problem and realizing that another full rewrite may be required in order for it to reach a state I could be content with.

For this reason and a few more personal ones, I am permanently suspending all development on SkyMind. I will not be porting this to version 1.5. If someone would like to attempt to take over maintenance, they are welcome to do so. All art assets and ideas belong to their original creators, and so should be reached out to prior to use in a mod that will be released for public consumption (and especially if it is part of a commission or involves money at all). I can make no guarantee that my sanctioned use of the assets will be permitted in another work - and my use may still be revoked at the will of the original creators as is their right. My source code is available on GitHub (cannot link due to Steam restrictions). Direct copy, modification, and redistribution of source code is acceptable as long as credit is given and is not done for monetary gain.

I will continue to update the mod if/when GitHub pull requests are submitted for the purposes of translations, bug fixes, or fully developed and ready-to-release additions.

Features:
  • A system for the wireless and non-physical transfer of consciousness between connected pawns.
  • A system for pawns remotely controlling other so-called surrogate pawns with all relations and skills shared between host and surrogate.
  • Network towers for establishing and maintaining connections between pawns.
  • 3 Servers that can be configured for Skill, Security, or Hacking insight.
  • Skill insight can be used to give connected pawns xp or passions in a chosen field based on their learning speed.
  • Security insight is automatically used to defend against enemy hacking attempts (which trigger like raids do) to prevent damage to the system or colony.
  • Hacking insight can be used to target other factions to do various things like redirect drop pod shipments, do propaganda campaigns for relations benefits, or launch DDOS attacks to weaken hostile connected pawns on your map.
  • Implants can be researched for pawns to connect to the network, and modders can easily give any Hediff the ability to connect (or block connection) to the network via a simple mod extension (looking at the xml for the SkyMind Transceiver/Receiver should help here).

Issues/Compatibility
Mad Skills - May break surrogate skill links between controller and surrogates. More testing is required to identify the source of the issue.

Same, which is why I joined the team, but until someone figures out the relationship bug with surrogates (See our discord for details), Killathon has refused to work on it and neither I nor anyone else on the team has the necessary skills to do it.

This is such a shame, I loved this and the Android mod, to the point where i would download Rimworld just to play with them and have a field day with one of the coolest mods around. Sad to see it won't be updated anymore

The M8 was axed, because there is no way to passively check whether a pawn is still alive thus requiring constant performance-heavy checks.

I'm sorry to confirm what the others have said. SMN is not getting updated to 1.5 in the foreseeable future, however, someone has announced that they will eventually try to fix the relationship bug, allowing us to take it back up.

Until then, try Altered Carbon . We are not affiliated with them, but it's the closest you can get atm.

Is the whole "internal temperature takes time to adjust" mechanic gonna stick around or be toggleable? Cause I'll be honest, that's kind of a make or break deal for me if a single power outage can wipe away all the work it takes to make s server-room. Even just saving the one I mentioned previously with a moderately rested repairman proved difficult.
