Airships: Conquer the Achievements
By LethalOwl
A comprehensive guide to getting all the achievements in the game. I've attached images and detailed explanations on how to do the more complicated ones with relative ease. There's also some workshop items attached to save you even more time with some of them. Play the game right and you'll have them all in less than 10 days.

Introduction
This guide will show you the way to get each and every achievement in Airships: Conquer the Skies.

You will require some patience for some of these, as random chance may hinder your progress. I (and contributors) have provided simple, easy-to-follow instructions and even examples as necessary. I've also added workshop links to make it even easier to do some of them, and can/will add more on request. Your completionist tendencies will be fulfilled, one way or another.

The guide is structured roughly in the same order of how many % of players have completed the various achievements. Want to go for the rarest right away? Proceed to the bottom of the guide. I will restructure as necessary if the percentages of completion changes over time.
My Achievement Journey
I got the game May 3rd of 2023 and got 100% of the achievements done by May 13th.

The guide is technically complete, but improvements will be added over time. I might edit parts to make the information more obvious or easy to understand, or even provide helpful ship blueprints to do some of the achievement that are lacking it on request.

I decided to keep tabs on my progress here, to show that I have indeed got all of them. May 7th's left out because I did not play anything that day due to work. So you could say I got all the achievements done in about 9 days total. It's definitely possible to do it a lot quicker, but I have my job to worry about as well.

I had a break from gaming on the 7th.

Mandatory Change of Ownership
"Capture an enemy ship."
You will need a ship with the ability to board an enemy ship. Step one, make sure your ship has troops. Step two, make sure it has enough troops to actually capture your intended target. "Guards" won't do the trick.

Once that is done, enter a fight scenario either on conquest mode or in the custom battle menu and immediately tell your ship to 'board' a target enemy ship, using the grappling hook button on the interface (Hotkey B for Boarding by default). Once you're able to command your ship again, command it close enough and your brave troops should do the rest.

If you have other weapons on your ship, disable them. You want the enemy ship to be Captured, not destroyed, for the achievement to trigger.

Profit.
Forced Landing
"Force down an enemy airship."

Some might mistakenly assume that this simply means 'make the enemy crash', which they all inevitably will when you blow them out of the sky. That's not the requirement, however. You need to force them down with one of your own ships, not using weapons.

You want to get your ship above the enemy's ship and 'ground' the ship, forcing the enemy down. Easier to do if the enemy ship is small and weak compared to yours, but not impossible for 'equal' ships, as demonstrated here.

Profit.
Smash the Skies
"Completely destroy an enemy ship by ramming it."

"Completely" might be a bit of an overstatement. However, it's obvious you require a ship with some ramming potential! Make sure not to have other active weapons while you try to get this one, as if the other weapons get the kill instead of your actual rams, it probably will not count no matter how much you already rammed it.

In this case, the 'win' was achieved by simply seperating the crew quarters from the other half of the ship. That counted as destroying it.

Profit.
One Giant (Unplanned) Leap
"Cause enemy marines to mis-jump and fall to the ground."

It's pretty much explained in the description. Make sure the marines trying to take your ship miss their jump!

This achievement can be done in the "Design & Fight" custom combat set-up for the quickest and easiest way to get this done within a few minutes of work at most. All you need is a lot of enemy ships with just marines and a quick ship of your own to dodge some of the jumpers.
Heraldry
"Register your coat of arms."

This is for multiplayer use and does not affect your singleplayer conquest mode effects. You can edit it at the top left of the menu screen and the achievement will pop once you're done. It might be your wanted design is taken, though, as apparently every player gets a unique one.

Profit.
A Convenient Perch
"Land your ship on a floating rock."

'Ground' your ship on floating rock.

Profit.
Broadside
"Fire ten heavy cannon at once."

Emphasis on 'at once'. I first tried to just bring in 10 heavy cannons on a tank and let them fire wildly, but that did no good. To do this properly, you need the following, starting with ten of these bad boys.

You bring an airship or landship with ten of these Heavy Cannons into a fight and tell it to hold fire first thing.

Make sure that if any of your cannons fired early, they get time to reload.

Move your vehicle into range of your target, ensure all cannons have line of sight (LOS) and then hit any of the three firing modes.

Profit.
We Have Reserves
"Win a battle with at least 100 crew lost."

You could do this the hardcore way and battle it out with a big fleet and barely scrape out a victory against a deadly opponent, or you can do this ritual sacrifice.

You ought to bring a ship that has the following traits;
  • Has over 100 crew.
  • Is very flamable and with little to no fire prevention.
  • Has few or no weapons, unless they make the ship even more flamable.
You send this ship alongside a more powerful ship that is ordered to hold fire. You attack a very weak fleet or fort that is just strong enough to defeat your expendables. Once you're sure that at least 100 of the crew are perished, you order your main ship to open fire and clean up the rest.

Profit.
Opulent And Imperial
"Build five upgrades in one city."

"City", meaning one of the larger settlements on the conquest game mode. You start with one, so that's half the job done. Step two is just progressing enough to afford to build a total of 5 different structures in this city. Here follows my capitol's structures in one of my longer games;

The Strong Do What They Can And The Weak Suffer What They Must
"Extract tribute in exchange for peace."

Quickest way to go about this would be to play on easiest difficulty, build yourself up a nice fleet and start pummeling some poor fool near you who's already scared of fighting you. A craven might be the easiest target. Knock them to within an inch of their life, like leaving them with only 1 town, or however much is necessary to Demand Tribute while offering the Truce.
Conquer The 'Net
Win a multiplayer battle."

It's in it's default description. Boot up the multiplayer lobby and host or join a battle! You can perhaps even exchange this achievement with a friend or someone in the ACTS community. I got mine with help from someone in the game's Discord server.
Exterminator
"Clear five biological monster nests in one game."

Spiders, dragons, gargoyles, anemones - Anything that is not a machine.
Conquer Together

"Win an alliance victory."

Win the game while having an active Alliance with at least 1 other empire. Easiest to do via conquest, as that gives you the least chance of them finding a reason to break the alliance at the last minute.

Air Superiority
"Destroy five enemy aircraft with your own aircraft in one combat."

In case it's unclear, this refers to the module category of aircraft. You basically want to equip a ship with a lot of aircraft of your choice and pit it against an enemy ship loaded with aircraft and then watch the carnage.

Profit.
Restitutor Orbis
"Crown yourself emperor."

Step one. Don't be a cultist empire (This achievement is mutually exclusive with "The Age Of The Worm").
Step two. Make sure Coronation victory is enabled and Alliance victory is disabled (if you want to get allies).
Step three. Kill a lot of monster nests for extra reputation, so make sure they are omnipresent.
Step four. Play nice, don't get low reputation. Send lots of delegations to fellow, honorable empires, who will accept them.
Step five. Conquer at least 66-67% of large settlements on the map. On a small map of 9 large settlements, this would be 6 out of 9.
Step six. Start the coronation process once you are 'Loved' in reputation and defend your major cities until you've won. Do not exterminate your enemy.

Profit.
Are We The Baddies?
"Win through conquest while hated."

Rather easy to get if you're busy steamrolling the enemy. Just make sure that you have a few empires left that you're punching down on, make them want for a truce when there's hardly anything left of them, and then proceed to break all said truces and demolish what's left of their empires. Breaking a truce causes major loss of reputation.

Profit.
Dogfight
"Win a multiplayer battle in the $200 fleet limit category"

The easiest way to go about this would be to get someone else to trade this achievement with you. You get a friend, or maybe a fellow random player from the ACTS discord, to join you in making an airship or landship that costs less than 200. Then you simply trade victories and voilá! You've got it done.
Dulce Et Decorum Est
"Lose 1000 crew in a single game."

If you play a large conquest game and this doesn't somehow pop up during your gameplay before your victory is close at hand, proceed with the same strategy as in "We Have Reserves" until the achievement pops. It should trigger as soon you've lost your 1000.

Bear in mind they actually need to 'die'. Having a ship crash and partly burn during a fight, whether you won or lost, doesn't mean the entire crew died if the ship was lost. If you want this done in one go, just grab a similar ship design from "We Have Reserves" and send one ship after another to it's slow-burning doom.

Profit.
You Take Care Of The Girl, I'll Go For The High Priest
"Stop the ominous chanting in time."

This achievement had me very confused for a few days, as it bugged out twice for me. Maybe it was because I was playing as a cultist myself at the time. Bear in mind I'm not sure if the bug is fixed, but if it doesn't bug out for you, the requirements are as follows.

Firstly, you must have a group of Heretics spawning on the map. Having Omnipresent spawning of monster nests will help, and having at least Normal difficulty or higher will also be useful, as that will let the nests develop quicker, which is required for this.

The difficult part is what follows the discovery of said cultists. You actually have to protect them, so they have time to develop. They need to become a fully fledged cult, so they start chanting.

This is when you should strike and destroy the cultists. Destroying them in the chanting stage should give you the achievement. This somehow didn't work for me on at least 2 occasions, so it might take more than one try.

To make it easier still, re-roll the map until you get cultists in one of your starting territories and then defend them at all costs. AI empires WILL try to kill them for rewards, so you might be forced into some unfavourable wars if you're not careful, or miss out on the achievement because they took out the cultists from right under your nose.

I Am Altering The Deal
"Break a treaty without losing any reputation."

To do this, you need grievances with another empire, but also to have a pact that would actually cost you reputation to break. My recommendation is to not go for anything higher than non-aggression, as that's a lot cheaper in terms of grievances required.

To get grievances, you need to send delegations that get turned down, or have another empire break a treaty you had with them. This gets easier if you're not playing on the easiest difficulties, since the AI is a lot more passive and not prone to acting up too much if you have it too easy. It gets easier still if you're trying to do this with empires that are not nice, like evil conquerors, dishonorable sorts, bullies, etc. Those that do not try to protect their reputation.

Bear in mind that if you have grievances with an empire and they send a delegation, accepting it will reduce your grievances with them. Do not do this while pursuing the achievement.
The Age Of The Worm
"Complete the Final Ritual."

Step one. Be a cultist empire. This requires your empire to have the Worm Eye symbol for the banner.
Step two. Play at your prefered difficulty if you're not in a rush, or easiest if you want it out of the way quickly. You can get it done quicker still by having all tech done and a tiny map and then beeline for the ritual sites you need to control in order to start the final ritual.
Step three. Keep enemies at bay while the final ritual takes place in a well-guarded city of your choice.

Profit.
Eaten Last
"Form an alliance with a cultist empire."

To get this, reroll your map until a cultist empire is present, ideally close to your own borders. This makes it easier to protect them while working on your Alliance. Try to get into a non-aggression or defensive pact with them as early as possible. If at some point you can make an Ultimatum that has at least some chance (ideally 50%+) to get you an Alliance at the threat of War, I'd suggest saving the game and trying to do this ultimatum and savescumming until the cultist agrees.
Sobieskilicious
"Destroy three enemy ships with aerial hussars in one combat."

Step one. Make ship with a dozen aerial hussars.
Step two. Have several ships with a dozen aerial hussars.
Step three. Make these ships fight any 3 weak enemy ships, in conquest or custom battle.

Profit.
They Laughed At Me At The Academy
"Build a fleshcracker and a mech squid."
To accomplish this achievement, you need to be in the conquest game mode. Then you have to meet these crazy scientists at least two, but probably more, times.

These scientists sometimes have defending constructs in the form of Fleshcrackers (Tentacle-armed golems) and Mech Squids, flying mechanical tentacle monsters. You need to defeat these scientists enough times to be given the technology on how to make these constructs yourself, which is not always guaranteed.

You're going to have to be somewhat patient with this, potentially, or make sure monster nests are omnipresent, as it would appear that Fleshcrackers are - presumably - exclusively available from mad scientists connected to roadways.

Getting the tech as a reward is no guarantee, so saving before attacking the scientist and loading if you didn't get what you wanted is a viable strategy.

Once you've learned both, you can make them in any City for a fee. Make at least one of each and the achievement will pop.

Profit.
Landships: Conquer The Land
"Win a game without building any airships."

As the name suggests, you can not build airships for this victory condition. Making supply ships make you inelligible for this victory condition, but I did just fine without supply ships. Better safe than sorry. You can always build tanks with extra supply storage anyway, if you desperately need it.

I'd also highly suggest utilizing the following 'Arms' for your nation flag for this achievement hunt.

As it says on the tin, it will make your landships cheaper to make and maintain, and will also give you a leg-up (pun intended) on tech if you do not force everyone to spawn at a higher tech tier. If everyone starts at tech level 1, you get to make landships with legs right out of the gate before anyone else. If you start at zero, where Landships usually aren't even available, you get to start with tracks right away.

If you start with an airship, dismantle it. Starting with an airship is not a crime, but using it or refitting it in any way is, so might as well get some money out of it by scrapping it before it's maintenance cost drains your early coffers..

As you see here, my glorious Dozer Empire is about to finish off the last of the enemy. Bear in mind that landships can't invade across waterways unless you already own the port in the other end, so unless you can get an Alliance with anyone across the water (As I have here to the south), you're better off restarting the game until there are no waterways to contend with. Choosing the "Continent" map type removes this problem altogether.

This gets easier if you opt for the easiest difficulty, of course, and if you use an efficient variety of ground vehicles. Flak is love.

Easier still if you entirely remove or heavily reduce the presence of extra threats like dragons and such. Landships can not eliminate nests or foes that are not directly connected to roadways, so if you want to prevent getting raided by dragons, mad scientists and more, disable the monster nests.
Outrage Overflow Exception
"Provoke an age of unrest."

Since I did this all in my first 10 days of playing the game, I had not yet actually encountered all the different events and such that could happen in the game, so I eventually found myself asking; How do I actually make this happen? And thanks to mr_spud_nugget and Zarkonnen himself, I learned the secret. It's a waiting game, but that's a good thing, since you may need some prep-work to "win" this event.

Step one, you want to utilize an empire with the Eye for it's 'Arms', so you get the +50% spy action success chance.

Step two; You want a huge map to guarantee the spawning of both the Social Hub (+30% success chance) and the Imperial Postal Office (+15% success chance). If you're very lucky, like I was here, they may even be spawning quite close to you. You can re-roll the map until this happens if you're feeling a little lazy. Like me.

This totals up to a 95% increased success chance for spies, which is nothing to scoff at and will be helpful even against empires that have significant spy defense through buildings and tech. Now you want to go ahead and conquer these territories as soon as is feasibly possible. It will probably help to play the game on an Easier setting without too many monsters to deal with, as getting those spy bonuses should be your priority.

Now all you have to do is to sit tight and wait for an Age of Decadence (What I got) or Industrial Revolution (Haven't got this yet) to start. By then you should have several spies with - ideally - fully established spy networks in easy-to-spy-on empires. Beware of empires with Fetterlocks for their insignia, as even with a maxed out spy network, they have pretty solid spy defense, all things considered.

You basically have to fill a bar of "Moral Outrage" that will be visible at the top right of your screen with spy actions done in enemy major cities.

Do this before anyone else does it and you have your achievement.

Shaving With Friends
"Destroy a saw-equipped ship with a saw of your own."

I got this by having a small fleet in conquest mode with just saw-equipped ships, flying around trying to find an enemy who would also use saws. I believe you need to make sure the 'kill' on the enemy ship must be with the saw, so ideally you just have 1-3 saws on several ships and no other weapons while trying to get this achievement. Will provide a blueprint soon.

After asking Zarkonnen about it, it would appear you can do this in a custom battle as well, but I've yet to verify this since I'd have to get it confirmed by someone who gets it that way instead of on conquest mode. At any rate, that would be a lot easier. Just make a saw equipped ship, give yourself a few and give the enemy a few and you're good.

Dumb Ways to Die
"Fight a battle with crew dead for at least 10 different reasons."

If you got this without actually trying, I applaud you. I invested a fair bit of time and almost started to assume this was not possible to get in custom battle mode, but I prevailed in the end.

To effectively get this achievement, you need to build one or several absolute monstrosities, loaded with different types of weapons. Close range, mid range, long range, aircrafts and troops. I got my achievement after fielding 2 of these titans against a fleet of hundreds of unarmed but heavily crewed ships. You're obviously going to have to be playing against these titans for best results.

It might take a few tries, but if you bring 15-20 different weapons and enough targets for them to take their anger out on, it is possible to do this in the custom battle menu.

To help you along, if you don't want to design these ships yourself, there's a few pre-made for you!

Hentai
"Defeat an aerial kraken using robotic tentacles."

Fun fact. This is the last achievement I got, and I got it at 69 hours played.

I spent some time trying to chase this kraken down in conquest mode to no avail before I realized there's a Mission in the main menu about taking down a Kraken. Turns out you can get the achievement by killing that, provided you only use mechanical tentacles. I will provide a blueprint for a ship that you can place 12 of for the limited price of 8000 that we have to work with to defeat the kraken.

Here follows the cheap blueprint used to take out the kraken.

Invictus
"Win a game on Very Hard or Imperial without ever losing any territory."

If you can do this on a huge map size, I commend you, but I did not have the time or patience for this, since I had a guide to make. The easy way to do this achievement is to use a tiny map of your preference, smallest possible. Not only that, but you will want to make sure to reroll your map until you can secure some manner of pact with at least 1 if not 2 of the 3 other empires that should be spawning in this size of map.

If they're cravens or cooperative and things like that, they're more likely to team up with you, and you want to make sure you have Alliance victory enabled. The easiest way to get this done is by actually getting an Alliance victory.

I will add further recommendations for more min-maxing types, like providing some workshop blueprints, some recommendations for your empire symbol bonus, recommendation for what map bonuses you ought to look out for, etc. That's coming down the line.
Chronic Backstabbing Syndrome
"Break an alliance three times in one game."

Why break one alliance three times when you can break three alliances one time? Turns out you do not have to break an alliance with the same empire. You can have a large alliance with 3 other empires and then break each alliance once you got them all onboard. This is also a quick way to get super bad reputation and may help you do the "Are We The Baddies?" achievement.

Basically you want to play on a big map with a lot of empires, and make sure several of them are of the cooperative sort that will easily enter an alliance with you. The more the merrier, as having only 3 is not necessarily enough. Some of them might be eliminated or join someone else's Alliance instead of yours.

Once you have a map with a sufficient amount of cooperative, craven or similar styles of empires, try to play diplomatically. Fight the enemies of your friends, send them dignitaries, etc, and try to give them a good enough deal to enter an Alliance with you. Once you have at least 3 people allied with you, proceed to break all three alliances in quick succession. Maybe save first, in case you wish to reload and keep playing with your allies that you just stabbed in the back. They'll be none the wiser.
Coronatus Interruptus
"Sabotage a coronation three times in the same game."

To make this achievement as easy as possible to do, there's a number of factors to consider including. Before you even start a new conquest game, you will want to make sure you choose the following 'Arms' for your nation flag;

As it says on the tin, it will give you a +50% increased success chance for spies. This helps A TON to do this without too much save-scumming. Secondly, I will suggest to add the following settings to the map;

"Why?" do I hear some ask, but the answer is simple. To make sure an AI will become the king, they need to have a very good reputation. Destroying pirates and monsters tend to give a lot of reputation, so you want them on the map.

I strongly suggest making it a "Small" and "Continent" map, so as to not wait forever for the AI to get the amount of large Cities needed to start the coronation process. I do NOT encourage any easier difficulty than Normal, or else the AI will be unlikely to take on enough monster nests in a decent amount of time. Too high a difficulty and the monster nests become way too powerful too quickly, so try to keep it on Normal or around there.

Do NOT enable Alliance Victory.
DO enable Coronation Victory.

So how do we know which AI empire will try to become the Emperor? Well, we don't. What we do know is that we can definitely HELP a specific type of empire to get there. Which one? Ideally, an Honorable one, as they are "Very protective of their reputation."

Once you've ensured you got an honorable empire on a small, continent-style map full of beasties for him to punch, all you have to do is to buddy up with this guy by any means necessary and keep him alive. Since you've disabled Alliance victory, you can actually safely yeet all other opponents from the map once you've secured an Alliance with them. The Alliance isn't strictly necessary, but it makes the interrupting of the coronation just a waiting game and not necessarily involving a war.

Once your Honorable friend has become Loved in their reputation and owns over 66% of the large cities on the map, the coronation will begin.

In this case, it meant he had to own 6 out of the 9 major cities on this Small map. No other foes are alive, just me and the Honorable empire remain. Even though we've an Alliance, no victory is achieved since I disabled that as a possible victory.

Now all you have to do is to sabotage the coronation 3 times using spy actions in the city they are using to coronate the emperor.

Do this 3 times and you've got your achievement. If you want, you can Save before your attempt to sabotage each time and load if it fails, ensuring you get 3 succesful interrupts in a row. Save-scummy, but it works.

Are there ways to make this even easier? Yes, but it's not necessary. Getting certain villages/towns with bonuses to spy action success is always a plus. These include the Imperial Postal Office (+15%) and the Social Hub (+30%).

Cheesy strategy for all 'Victory' achievements
Most might think they have to go through a full conquest playthrough for each of the victory condition related achievements, but I will tell you that this is not necessary. You might require 2-3, depending on how efficient you intend to be, but you can get most in the same playthrough. The following victory-related achievements can almost all be gotten from the same savegame;
  • Conquer Together
  • Restitutor Orbis/The Age Of The Worm*
  • Are We The Baddies?
  • Landships: Conquer The Land**
  • Invictus***

*The Age Of The Worm and Restitutor Orbis are mutually exclusive with one another, as per Zarkonnen's own words. Thank you for clarifying, Zarkonnen!

Now, the way you want to go about this is relatively simple. You start a conquest game mode on a difficulty of your choice (Very Hard or Imperial is required for Invictus), make sure the land is big enough to have some variety of empires available - especially those more likely to want an Alliance, like cravens, contenders, traders and cooperative sorts.

Once you're comfortably established, maybe controlling a safe third or maybe even half the map and you're getting ready to snowball out of control, you want to save the game. Several times, in fact. You want to 'save as' and rename the save to something that tells you which end goal you want to pursue. One save for Conquer Together, one for Restitutor Orbis, one for Are We The Baddies?, etc.

At this point you'll want to just beeline for each victory condition on each seperate save. Ally up with one or several empires and steamroll the map for one achievement, and then you load one of the other saves and perhaps you're going to crown yourself emperor this time. And then you load up the save for the baddies and proceed to declare wars, get truces and break truces until you're hated before conquering it all.

**While it's possible to also do the Landships achievement in the same save, it's probably going to be painful unless you make the map a lot smaller and don't have any waterways that might prevent you from invading some coastal cities. Currently landships seemingly can not invade a city across the water. This in turn might make the map too small to make the other victory conditions feasible, but you might be lucky.

***Invictus is PAINFUL on big maps, but I salute your persistance if you got it on such a map. That said, you could get this and "Conquer Together" on a tiny map. Just make sure you arrange for the smallest map possible and that you get a defensible position (not trapped between 2 or all 3 neighnours), and ideally at least 1 if not 2 of the other empires being willing to go into non-aggression pacts very early on. The sooner you can get an Alliance on this tiny map, the better, which will make Invictus a lot easier to get.
FAQ
"Can you unlock achievements using mods?"

Short answer; Yes, mods don't seem to interfere with getting achievements, as a general rule.
Long answer: Some mods might alter things that spawn on the map, which may block off certain achievements just because the things you need suddenly are not present on the map.

Thanks to "Mr. Iron" for confirming this.

Thank you for stopping by.
On May 13th, I finished the 100% pursuit, 10 days after I got the game. Quite accidentally, the last achievement I got was 'Hentai'. When did I get it? At 69 hours played. *Wheeze*

If this guide helped you in any way, I am happy and pleased. Thank you for stopping by.

alright, i got the achievement while using the mod lol, guess that answers the question

I shall embark on the quest of doing "Landships: Conquer The Land" while using doc's ww2 mod. I will return
Mr. Iron 3 Oct @ 7:54am
Yes i would like to play without mods but would like a little helping hand by using mods such as Doc's ww2 pack haha. I mainly just play for conquest mode, and on medium/regular difficulty i get destroyed bahaha im terrible
LethalOwl  [author] 3 Oct @ 7:30am
Not a dumb question, Mr. Iron!
I've been told they do, and I've been told they do not. I did all of mine without mods, and it wasn't hard, and I guess it might feel more earned that way? In any case, it might work with mods. Try and add the mods you like and do one of the easier achievements, see if it triggers.

Bear in mind that some achievements might affect spawns and such required for certain achievements, so keep that in mind when going for several more. Good luck!
Mr. Iron 2 Oct @ 5:40pm
Hello, dumb question of mine... do steam mods disable earning the achievements?
