Intro

Masks have many purposes, and while some are considered to be useless by one person, another might find them great or at least useful. So take anything you read here with a grain of salt, because it really comes down to personal preferences in most cases.

Some of the masks are very niche, they're only good with a certain class, playstyle or strategy, while others can be good on almost any class. Some masks excel at offensive strategies, some are better for stealthy or defensive strategies.

Then there's masks which counter specific cop classes.
Mask overview
All the masks have 50% faster money pickup, even those that don't specifically say so.

The Paperbag is probably one of the more versatile masks, making all the interactions faster is a huge benefit for many classes and playstyles. Recommended for Crypto, Geek and Tech.

Fox is probably a decent mask. However most of the classes which frequently use bombs would prefer The next mask. Wouldn't recommend.

Very underrated mask. Free bombs are great, and many people don't even notice the beard. Recommended for Scout and Arms Dealer.

Sombrero is probably one of the most used masks in the game. Usually fits stealthy playstyles more. Recommended for Vault Cracker, Engineer, FED Chairman, Hitman and Tech.

While someone told me it's not trash and it could be used to reach certain positions, the Drink Helmet is more of a meme than a mask. Not recommended. Next.

I must admit I haven't played with the Alien Mask a lot. It's a counter against Detective and Vigil. I believe it's a good option for Vault Cracker, Crypto, Master Thief, Poison and Geek, if your goal is to be stealthy and avoid cams and Detectives.

Are you tired of getting harassed near your spawn by cops on horses? Do you just want revenge against someone, whose entire game plan is to cuff all the NPCs in the employee area while leaving their horse unprotected? Worry no more! Introducing: the Cowboy Hat. While regenerating ammo is nice for some classes, riding a horse without repercussions for hitting NPCs is better.
The ammo regeneration is also nice to have as Poison or Hitman.

You don't see this mask a lot and it's for a reason. It's absolute garbage. Could be used on Arms Dealer to either put 5k into the van at the start, buy a grapple and drill, a bot robber, or purchase more items for your friends.

Ah yes, the Gas Mask Mask. It's a very good Mask Mask for Mechanic and Distractor. Being able to walk through your own fires can be a game changer. Poison is already immune to his poison.
It could be used as a counter to Riot Control's teargas launcher, but chances are he'll see the mask. Tear gas doesn't kill you. Riot does.

This is a mask which can be beneficial to both teams. Free heals inside the bank for everyone also means, that cops might save themselves the long way to the cop car and heal inside the vault. That being said it still helps robbers more than cops, and provides instant healing as opposed to shark mask's slow regeneration. Could be good on a large variety of classes, most notably Mafia, Geek and Pickpocket.

10% sprint speed isn't much. The Unicorn does it better. If you dislike carrying a body during your escape, you might give it a try.

The Welder Mask is almost mandatory on Madman, because you'll be hitting yourself a lot with the grenade launcher, and it's a good pick on Heavy, Hitman and Arms Dealer, if you plan to do rocket jumps or engage in close combat with explosives. If you find yourself dying to IEDs a lot, or if multiple people on your team pick Madman, the welder mask might save your life.

You rarely come across this mask, it's mostly used by heavies to increase the height of their rocket jumps and minimize fall damage. This Mask enables you to jump on the roofs and shoot rockets down into the cop spawn, while healing and resupplying at your helicopter.

There are two strategies for the bandana. It works as a solo strategy, hiding in a corner while healing, which is mostly done with Snipers and Gym Buddy. However there's a 2 player strategy with sniper and vault cracker, the sniper takes the bandana and the vault cracker just opens and closes the vault, locking both players inside. Can also work as solo vault cracker for 1-2 ticks.
Also the gym buddy could throw his bag into a window, for an insider or Agent with a bandana.

I never noticed before writing this guide, but the Horse Mask has the same stats as the Tiger Mask.
It's still a bad mask in case you forgot.

The unicorn is currently my favourite mask. While it's the most obvious choice for a Doctor, I argue it can be used for agressive rush strategies and fast escapes in almost any class, because of the 20% speed boost. I previously used it as Sniper to be able to silently jump off a roof without having to use a grapple to negate fall damage, and I am currently enjoying the unicorn Ninja build, sprinting silently while carrying a body at all times. It beats the Fox, Horse and Tiger Masks in all aspects.

This mask is mandatory for Micro to counter heal. But it's one of the best picks on pretty much any combat oriented playstyle or class. If you're not sure which mask to pick, give the shark mask a try, it works for most classes.

That's incorrect. He can only be killed by a bullet. So if you decide to stick around your IED or use the grenade launcher close range, you will hit yourself down to 1 hp but not die. However you're onehit for the cops.
