Optimal Multiplayer Play
Scout is a fun class to play, but a difficult one to master, particularly in regards to multiplayer play. Since Scout is my most played class, I thought I'd share some of the knowledge I've acquired.
  • Relative to the other classes, it can be difficult for a Scout to hold their own in combat. For that reason, just don't even bother with combat, there's probably better stuff you can be doing. Use your grappling hook to get away from your teammates when the bugs start coming.
  • By the same reasoning, you'll likely be taking more damage as a Scout, which means you'll need more healing. If ammunition from a resupply pod hasn't been taken after 1 minute, it's a sign that everyone has enough ammo/health. If this happens, go ahead and take a second resupply for the health.
  • Because you won't be fighting much, there's not much point collecting Nitra, so don't waste your time with that either. Your teammates are the ones using their ammo, let them be the ones to worry about Nitra. In fact the only mineral that is worth your time is Gold, that ♥♥♥♥ is worth loads.
  • Crafting materials/brewing ingredients are superfluous, this isn't Minecraft.
  • The Flare Gun doesn't have much ammo, so be sure to use it as sparingly as possible. The throwable flares are a free resource and are more than enough to light up your immediate vicinity, so lean on these more. If you're waiting for the flare recharge, this is a good time to use the Flare Gun
  • If there's some difficult-to-reach Gold and you can't get a good hit with the ol' power-attack-the-wall trick, just keep trying. In theory you could get the Engineer's attention so they can make a platform, but you already left them behind when the wave came, so they're probably not near-by.
  • Because of your mobility, you'll find yourself being the first to reach event triggers (engaging the Caretaker, cracking open the Ommoran, starting the refinery, etc.). When starting events, there's no need to ask if everyone is ready. If they aren't ready, they'll let you know well in advance.
  • When a teammate goes down, a Scout's mobility enables you to reach them quickly. However, consider letting them lie there for a bit to give them time to reflect on the failings of their skill and ammunition management.
Summary
In short, the optimal Scout multiplayer play-style can be described as fast, thrifty, and individualist. Your time is precious and each player needs to be able to take responsibility for themselves.

Have fun!

LOL wtf who wrote this someone with 2 hours in the game, gold honestly is one of the LEAST worth resources to mine, while gold can be decent the payout it gives relative to amount you mine isn't really great. Nitra is literally the life of your team and Scout can be SUPER strong at crowd control now with Boomerang, Crossbow with pheromones and mod that changes ur normal bolts to Ice. Fire bolts can make it a strong wave clear as well vs waves as you phero a mob then flame bolt someone in that and watch a wildfire start. While it will never compare to Driller and Engineer it still can be strong.

The worst thing about playing a scout is your team never really notices your contribution to the fight.

I think you've forgotten something very integral to playing scout. A good scout should never look up or take heightened senses. Cave leeches are very rare and not a legitimate threat, and thus, your teammates should be responsible with dealing with them (also see: ammo conservation). If you get caught by one and are being eaten, it is your teammates' fault for falling behind and not playing their roles effectively.
