Tips #0 : If you like walking. Hit CAPS LOCK on your keyboard.

Tips #1 :There is two types of cases : Main cases & Side cases.

At the start of each main case, i suggest to save the game and make a backup of the save somewhere on your pc. Because, if you are too far in the case, you can go back if you missed something.

The save are located in the link below :

C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Local\TSCGame\Saved\SaveGames\



Tips #2 : Some achievement are line related. So, pay attention on what you pick as a dialogue line. Dialogue in this game are no reversible. You can't go back, if you miss, you will need to load a previous save to do it again.

Tips #3 : When you visit a location for a case, you have evidence to collect, some of them are hidden behind illusion. (Some walls seem real but are not, ...) So, it's difficult to know if you find everything. Gladly, the game offer you an icon on the map allowing you to know if you have complete a location at 100%. There is a magnify glass icon on the location on the map. If the icon is green, it mean than you found everything. If you want everything at 100%, NEVER leave a place without having a green icon. You never go back to an already visited location during a case.

Tips #4 : If you didn't figure out yet, there is a feature called the mindplace in the menu of the game. It's the place where you link evidences from the main case together to make facts (They can be true or false, doesn't matter. You need to do it to advance in a case sometimes, it become more and more true when you go deeper in the game). Sometimes, the mindplace offer you to make a choice, changing the fate of a case.

N.B : The mindplace doesn't exist for side cases.


Tips #5 : When a case is finish, always go back to your room in the hotel. There is sometimes a cut scene and/or a piece of newspaper stick to a board. Allowing you to know what happened from your choice. Sometimes, Charles Reed write something in his journal, also. When there is different location with npcs still alive, i also suggest to go check on them before/after the end of the case.

Open-world Achievements
All evidence collected : You just need to get all the achievements of the game on steam. The descriptiong seem to say than it's related to the evidences in-game, but it is not.

Missable

The Pleasure of Finding Things Out : Use the archive at least one time during a case. It can be everywhere, at the police department, the city hall, the Hospital, the Oakmont chronicle, ...

The Oakmont Chronicle

Extra! Extra! The first time you go to the local newspaper office named the Oakmont Chronicle. To access the archive for a side case or the main case. When you enter in the building, there is a black lady behind a counter. She ask for an interview. You must accept the interview.

N.B : Normally, you get that during "Lost in the sea" case, but it is possible than you get it earlier if you enter the building earlier or if you are doing a side case or something.




Main Case : 1 - Frosty Welcome
Case 1 - Frosty Welcome
  • Part 2 : Finding Albert Throgmorton

Tempting Fate : In the starting area, there is a bar named "Under the Keel". You are suppose to go there to do your investigation about Albert Throgmorton. In this bar, there is a fortune teller at a table. She will propose you to read your future. You must accept to get this achievement.

Missable

N.B : You need to give her a bullet ! So be sure to have a spare one in your inventory.



Case 1 - Frosty Welcome
  • Part 4 : Conclusion

Hook, Line, and Sinker : You need to solve/finish the first case about Albert Throgmorton in Grimhaven bay.


N.B : Tips for beginner. To know if you have find all the evidence in a location (house, bar, ...), you need to open your map and look at the magnifying glass icon. If it's green, then, you have find everything and you can go to another location. If it's another color (yellow or gray), it mean than you still have evidence to find.

  • Part 2 : Expedition Headquarters

Extra! Extra! When you leave the Expedition Headquarters, you need to go to the Oakmont Chronicle to access the archive. When you enter in the building, there is a black lady behind a counter. She ask for an interview. You must accept the interview.

N.B : I believe it's possible to get the event early if you go at the Oakmont Chronicle for another reason (like doing a side case or exploring), so pay attention on this one.

Case 2 - Lost At Sea
  • Part 4 : Hospital of St. Mary
First, Do No Harm After leaving the port to look for Sanders who is badly wounded, your path go to the Hospital St. Mary. Talk to the doctor behind the counter. During the conversation, he will try to do a diagnostic of your condition. Then, he propose you to become a test subject. You must agreed to his offer and take the medicine.

Missable

N.B : "May i suggest you become a subject in my experimental medical program ?"
N.B2 : If you go at the hospital early, during a side case or while exploring, it is maybe possible to have this dialogue outside the story. So, pay attention at what you choose.There is no further tries on this one.
N.B3 : Choosing "I do have a headache" is mandatory. If you select the other line, you will miss the achievement.



Case 2 - Lost At Sea
  • Part 5 : Diving
Deep Breath At the end of the case, you are suppose to go on boat to an island named Devil's Teeth. To continue the game, you need to wear a diving suit to go into the deep of the ocean. Doing this grant you the achievement.


Main case : 3 - Quid Pro Quo
Make a backup of your save before the next one. The achievement force you to make a choice who could be in contradiction with your way to play the karma of the main character.

Case 3 - Quid Pro Quo
  • Part 2 : The Fish Storage
Brutal Honesty : When you leave the fish market, Anna ask you to investigate the fish storage. At the fish storage, there is a innsmouther who guard the place. When you have finish with the investigation of the fish storage, you have the choice to betraying him and/or being honest with Anna. When you come back for your report to Anna, you must be honest about the fact than the Innsmouther wasn't doing his job during the incident. So, betray the Innsmouther.

Daryl, the Innsmouther guard : "Please don't tell Anna it was my fault, or she'll have me quartered!"
You, Charles Reed : "I won't tell her"/"I will tell her"

... [A few moments later back at the fish market] ...

Anna : "One thing still bothers me. The guard at the storage, Daryl, what was he doing at the time ?"
You, Charles Reed : "He missed the intrusion."

Case 3 - Quid Pro Quo
  • Part 3 : The University
Reanimator : Your investigation guide you to the university. At the location, you meet Samuel behind the counter of the Department of Medicine. He ask you to clean the lab. When the lab is cleared, you will find a button against a wall, in the next room, at the right side of the entrance blocked by a crate.

Just push the button.

N.B : I suggest to take all the evidence in the lab before pushing the button. I don't know if the dead monster count as evidence or not.

Case 3 - Quid Pro Quo
  • Part 4 : Cavendish's flat/Fish Storage - Choice 2 - Poisoning the fresh haul
Compliments to the Chef : Cavendish was the suspect trying to poison the fish in the fish storage. You meet him at his flat. He ask you to help him finishing the job and poison the fish.

Tips for new players : If you didn't figure out yet, there is a feature called the mindplace in the menu of the game. In the mindplace, you have two choice possible here : Choice 1 - Killing Cavendish OR Choice 2 - Help George to Undermine the EOD. You need to choose the choice 2.

When it is done, finish the case by following Cavendish tasks. Poison the fresh haul of fish in the fish storage and the achievement should unlock at the end of the case.

Main Case : 4 - Fathers and Sons
Case 4 - Fathers and Sons
  • Part 6 : Redemption Church
Use Protection : During your visit to the Redemption Church in Salvation Harbor, the game lead you to a temple/cave underwater where you need to dive. In the middle of this cave, there is monster/boss to beat : the Fecund Mother. When the boss is destroy, the achievement should pop up.

N.B : Apparently, it is possible to miss this fight. I don't know how. So, pay attention and do save backup on this one. It is maybe buggy.



Make a backup of your save before the next two. You can't do both, you need to do one, then reload an oldest save to do the other one. Those achievements also force you to make a choice who could be in contradiction with your way to play the karma of the main character.

Case 4 - Fathers and Sons
  • Part 6 : Conclusion/Carpenter's Manor/Carpenter's Hideout
Near the end of the case, you need to complete the mindplace and choose a side between Graham and his father, Brutus.

Sic Semper Tyrannis For unlocking this achievement, you need to choose to help Graham.

So, go back to the Carpenter's Manor and talk to Graham. After a long dialogue, he admit to have tried to clone his father to usurp his power. He can't do it without you so he ask you to kill his father.

Agreed to it and go back into the hideout of his father, Brutus Carpenter. After a short dialogue with him. Choose the answer : "Graham should take over. Time to end this!".

Be ready for a fight. You can raid the place without doing the dialogue for safety. But it's more funny to see his surprise in his eyes before killing him.

Et Tu, Brutus? For unlocking this achievement, you need to choose to help Brutus, the father.

Whatever you do, at the end. Go back to the hideout of Brutus Carpenter and talk to him, like previously. Same as above, but instead, choose the answer : "It was Graham".

N.B : I don't know what happen if you try to kill Graham before or after this. There is maybe more than two ending on this matter.

N.B2 : There is a cut scene in the hotel for each choice. So, make a detour to your room before reloading a save file.

Graham & Brutus
Main Case : 5 - Nosedive
Make a backup of the case 5 before starting it. At least before going into the Orion Club. The achievement in the Orion Club is easily miss.

Case 5 - Nosedive
  • Part 2 : The Orion Club
It's a Kind of Magic The case guide you to the Orion Club. You cross a wounded KKK guard who told you to go upstair to meet the Imperial Wizard named Gordon Meyer. After climbing a bunch of furniture to go on the upper floors, you finally reach a barricaded room who trigger a dialogue with the Imperial Wizard, Gordon.

Pay attention, because, it's at this moment than you need to get the correct line to joke around and ask for a magic trick. The good line to choose are the one below :

Charles Reed - "Who exactly are you ?"
Gordon Meyer - "You're addressing the imperial Wizard Gordon Meyer, newcomer. Show some damn respect."
Charles Reed - "Show me a magic trick!"
Gordon Meyer - "What the droch did you just say to me ?"
Charles Reed - "A magic trick!"

Case 5 - Nosedive
  • Part 4 : Underwater cavern
Not Too Deep for Me Near the end of the case, you reach a cavern with a dive suit. You meet Ebernote Blackwood at the end of a jail room. After talking to him, go further into the cave. Your path will be blocked by three illusion walls. Each one have a sort of painting on it. Examine each of them before breaking the illusion. Charles Reed make a comment about them each time.

After the third one, you should unlock the achievement.


Main Case : 6 - Deal with the Devil
Case 6 - Deal with the Devil
  • Part 5 : Blackwood's Marsh Factory / Cannery
What Could Go Wrong? After picking up the seal in the Cannery, you heard sound upstair. You find Ebernote Blackwood there, it trigger a dialogue with him. He explain to you than he is the "choosen" and want to extract the dreamers seed from you, Charles Reed.

To get this achievement, you must agreed and giving him the seal while submitting to the ritual in a attempt to lift the curse.

Ebernote Blackwood : "You can be saved, Mr. Reed. Let me help, i beg you ! This is not where your journey ends."
Charles Reed : "Might be my last chance. I'm in."


After the end of the dialogue go to the sacrifice table and enjoy the cutscene.

Main Case : 7 - Self-Defense
Case 7 - Self-Defense
  • Part 4 : Oakmont City Hall/Agatha Pierce Residence
Crime, No Punishment After leaving Milton Pierce Residence, the case lead you to the city hall to meet Milton. During the conversation, he told you than he is ready to change his testimony if you agreed to poison his mother, Agatha Pierce.

Agreed to poison Agatha and go to her Residence to poison her. This achievement can only be unlock if her drink is poisoned after you agreed to clean her cellar. You also need to make a toast with her. She will die in front of your eyes.

Case 7 - Self-Defense
  • Part 6 : Devil's Reef Hotel
Double Tap At the very end of the case, when you go back to the Devil's Reef Hotel, you meet Johannes in your hotel room. After a big talk with him where he explain everything. The conversation end with Johannes telling you to not lost the seal again.

Take your gun and shoot him in the head.

N.B : Last line of Johannes before the kill, "Farewell, Charles. Whether we speak again or not, i will be watching. And don't lose the seal again... or all your effort in this city would go to waste."


Main Case : 8 - Fleeing Phoenix
You need to make a backup of your save to do the next three achievements. As always, don't forget to check the hotel before reloading. To see the result of your actions.

Be careful, in the hidden lab, you need to choose a side at the end of the investigation of the location. So, make a save before doing the retrocognition sequence !

Case 8 - Fleeing Phoenix
  • Last Part : Joseph Hill Residence & Usha Hideout

The case lead you to Joseph Hill Residence or Usha Hideout. There, you can side with Joseph or Usha.

The End Justifies the Means If you decided to side with Joseph, he will grant you with "Mystical Ointment". When everything is done in the residence, go to Usha's Hideout.

When you finally meet Usha, there is no real dialogue choice to do. Charles Reed say automatically than he came to kill her. Now, you just need to kill her and you are done.

Still Salty If you decided to side with Usha, go to see Joseph in his residence. Then tell him than you side with Usha. Next step is just to kill him.


N.B : There is different ways to kill Joseph or Usha. With different dialogue choice. Just choose something related to side with Usha or Joseph. It doesn't really matter. You can also have an automatic dialogue with Joseph or Usha depending on how you went into the other one side. The most important is to kill him or her at the end.

Dodge This If you sided with Usha, come back to her and speak to her, after killing Joseph. At the end of the conversation, just say "bye". She will turn her back, you just need to kill her with your melee weapon or your gun. Simple.

N.B : You don't need the special ointment from Joseph to kill Usha from behind.



Main Case : 9 - Into the Depths
Don't forget to save at the beginning of the case and maybe later in the case. Because you will have multiple choice to do with multiple cut scenes to see.

At this point, you need to have complete all the side cases, because there is no turning back and the end of this case.

Case 9 - Into the Depths
  • Part 1 : St. Michael’s Church
Damage Control The case lead you to St. Michael’s Church where you case see a beautiful phoenix on the wall. Go upstair to meet Meryl. After a long talk with her, at a moment, you have this dialogue happening :

Charles Reed : "Are you planning to ... immolate yourself ?"
Meryl : "It is the Cleansing, Yes!"


You need to answer :

Charles Reed : "You'll die in agony".

N.B : When you are downstair, i suggest you to go upstair quickly because depending on your choice, Meryl is doing something. If you leave the church with the artefact, Meryl will disappear from the church. So, Pay attention. (There is no cut-scene at the hotel on this one)



Case 9 - Into the Depths
  • Last Part : The Temple of Cthygonnaar
The case lead you into the depths, in front of the temple of Cthygonnaar. You see Ebernote Blackwood telling you to make a choice. There, depending on what you choose in the mindplace, you can have three differents endings.

Ebernote Blackwood : "Destiny waits for no man, Charles. Decide now whether this ends in salvation, or blood."

There is three pedestal to drop the seal. Depending on each ending, you need to put it in the good pedestal. Left, Middle, Right.

I suggest to do the three retrocognition actions (one at each pedestal) before doing the mindplace. It allow to get more choice in the mindplace deduction window.

I'm Out of Here When in front of Ebernote Blackwood, go on the right path and make your mindplace to be able to choose to free the city and getting out of there. Then place the seal on the right pedestal in front of a big circle and enter the big door.


The Stars Are Right Same as before but this time choose the mindplace who make you accept your faith. And put the seal on the middle pedestal in front of Cthygonnaar statue.


Leap of Faith Same as before but this time choose the mindplace who make you restart the cycle and sacrifice yourself. Then put the seal on the left pedestal, near the cliff.

Side Cases
Side Case - A Delicate Matter
  • Part 2 : Sidney Stokes aka Squint's Residence
No Honor Among Thieves After finding the address of Squint in the police department's archive, the case lead you to Sidney Stokes Residence. There, while investigate the location, pay attention, in the kitchen, there is a stash hidden inside a furniture. You can easily miss it !

N.B : If you activate Mind's eye in the kitchen, ghost show you the way to the furniture.

For the next achievement, you will need to make a backup of your save before meeting Bettany ! I suggest making the backup just before entering into Gaunter Randall Residence. Reload your save after ending the case.


Side Case - Through The Looking Glass
  • Part 4 : Gaunter Randall Aka David Miles residence
The case lead you to Gaunter Randall Residence, the mirror maker. After exploring the location, you finally bump into Bettany near the end of the investigation, downstairs.

Bettany - "His body is dead, but his soul is frozen in glass, unable to move on or return without help. Francis thought this was merciful ! The wretch."

Family Reunion To unlock this achievement, you need to keep the mirror and kill Bettany. And bring back the mirror to Robert Throgmorton in his manor.

Charles Reed - "I'm taking the mirror"

Both Worlds To unlock this achievement, you need to let Bettany keep the mirror. And lie to Throgmorton about the mirror at the end of the case.

Charles Reed - "Fine. You may keep it."

To unlock each achievement, you need to finish the case. They will be unlocked during your last conversation with Robert Throgmorton during your report to him.

N.B : Before trying the other choice of this case and reloading your save, don't forget to make a trip to your room in the hotel to see the result of your choice.

Merciful Madness DLC (All Sewn Up is remove from the game)

Side Case - Silence is Golden
  • Last part :
All Sewn Up At the very end of the case, the case lead you to a residence where there is two mirrors, one in the basement and one upstairs. After you replace the broken mirrors with new ones, Granny Weaver will appears.

You just need to beat her to get the achievement.

Thanks Kryn, i've updated the achievement.
Yes, it's better to go back to the hotel everytime, to see the difference in the room and the cut-scenes. If you don't care about that type of stuff, you don't need to go back to the hotel.

On the "First, Do No Harm" achievement, when I got to the hospital I said I do not have a headache and the conversation you mentioned did not occur. Either I need to do the side-quest first or I should've chosen the other option (saying I do have a headache). Either way, could you update the guide to clarify which option should be chosen?

I did the Silence is Golden side case, and finished it. But I didn't get the "All Sewn Up" Achievement. I think it must be gone now since Frogwares took it over.

So, i've updated the guide with all the achievements. And corrected the text missing. I think All Sewn Up doesn't exist anymore. But for history purpose, i keep it under Merciful Madness DLC.

Indeed All Sewn up is part of the Merciful Madness DLC. Since, Silence is Golden is not part anymore in the base game.
