To be honest its not fun to do, but this fastest way to get experience and level up.
Level nothing mean In VT1, but If you go for "Karl Franz" achievement you need to reach 100 level. Probably you can get higher level without abuse by only playing game, but according to my memories level 100 is last for completing and kinda grinding. So, this guide helps save your time

You receive experience for reaching some control points on maps. Mission fail count too.
Different maps give different experience for fail. Trials of the Foolhardy map best to use.

By this method you receive 500xp per ~1min 30 sec (including loading time)
In highest level you need 5000 xp for level up, mean ~15 min per level!

Requires
  • The Quality of Life Modpack steam guide
  • Access to Trials of the Foolhardy map on cataclysm (or use this mode to unlock, reddit post)
My recomendations for save couple seconds from each run
  • Install game on ssd
  • Skip cutscene at beginning of mission steam discussion
  • Use quick foot trinket
  • Find optimal way to point
Completing
  • Start Trials of the Foolhardy on cataclysm difficultie
  • Run to this point near second portal (forest) and after type message /fail
  • Repeat. Profit!
