Reasons for modifying include easy sharing on Steam and the modification of some steps to include alternative tools if one doesn't work, as was the case for me.

The GUIDE

Okay, before we begin, you'll need your tools. These will come in two flavors: one for extracting files out of their package and another for converting those files to formats usable by programs other than the Unreal Engine.

OR

Then, grab UE Viewer (umodel) to load the extracted files: https://www.gildor.org/en/projects/umodel

I had very little success with the QuickBMS tool and decided to use the native unrealpak instead. For the purpose of completion, here is a copy/pasted version of the QuickBMS tutorial that supposedly works, but didn't for me.

Extract Quick BMS and run it.

Select the Unreal Tournament script you downloaded when prompted to

Navigate to the Deep rock save folder and select the PAK file in the "Your Drive Name Here":\Steam\steamapps\common\Deep Rock Galactic\FSD\Content\Paks/FSD-WindowsNoEditor

Now designate a destination folder for everything you are exporting

Hit enter and wait a while (took me about 5-10 min on a Ryzen 2600x)

With unrealpak, just drag-n-drop or copy the "FSD-WindowsNoEditor.pak" file into the same directory as the unrealpak.exe, open the .exe, and let it ride.

Once the files are unpacked, open UE Viewer (umodel or umodel_64) and have it load the base directory (\FSD\Content\). Browse the sub-directories within umodel for the best experience.

When exporting audio, you must launch umodel and toggle the "Sound" checkbox underneath the "Export-only Types" section of the start-up dialogue box.

You'll want to pick either Unreal Version 4.22 (or 4.23 for some newer files) when asked during the export process.

NOTE: All these materials will be under the COPYRIGHT of Ghost Ship Games and Coffee Stain Holdings, meaning your use of their materials MUST be in accordance with international and/or local copyright laws. That means, to utilize copyrighted materials in a legal and respectful manner, it is VERY IMPORTANT that you understand the concept of FAIR USE and how it relates to your specific jurisdiction.

For example, YouTube will automatically prohibit the use of some copyrighted content without the express written consent of the copyright owner, due to the highly-commercial nature of YouTube and the ease of which it can be used for financial gain. However, even on YouTube one may use copyrighted materials so long as they fall under FAIR USE, the term of which can be ambiguous and ever-changing. (Less than 15 seconds of feature time and less than 5-15% of total work is the generally-accepted usage, but this can change and different platforms as well as different copyright owners have different rules.)

I will not be held responsible for what others do with copyrighted materials. That being said: happy hunting!

Thanks for the Steam Points. Non-verbal appreciation for my work goes a long way to inspiring me to make more!
