WHAT IS THIS?
If you saw my Steam workshop vehicles of Stormworks you may notice that I like to add realistic specifications to my vehicles and most of them are aircrafts. When it comes to write specifications for an aircraft, 'Service Ceiling' is one of the most important things. (Service Ceiling is the maximum usable altitude of an aircraft, cruise altitude is usually below that.) Because there is no air density to decrease lift or engine power in Stormworks, aircrafts can reach any altitude.

In short, it tries to simulate air density in Stormworks by influencing air drag of vehicle and changing engine throttle. Higher altidue makes the air less dense. As air density decreases so 'air drag' and engine power. Influencing 'air drag' is being done using certain number of symmetrically placed rocket fin(s) which act as air brake. I chose 1x1 rocket fin for the job because it has the biggest aerodynamic force per block-volume. Beware; this simulation does not reduce air drag in Stormworks! On the contrary, it increases air drag to the max at sea level by utilizing rocket fins acting as air brake. As air density decreases, air brake effect decreases to simulate air drag. There are additional features which will be explained in detail below.

WHO SHOULD USE IT
First of all, you should know that your vehicle will be SLOWER and will not be able to reach HIGHER ALTITUDES because of increased drag and decreased engine power. This is the COST of having this Air Density and Altitude Simulation. If you want your vehicle drag and engine performance get affected by air density, air temperature, rain & humidity in a realistic way, you should use it.

jestor,
I can say I like engineering and basic physics in games.

Thanks for comments.

@iioft,
There is actually an exploit which reduces air drag in SW. It can be used for gliding but it is not easy to tune it well. It requires XML editing of rocket fins "fin_factor" value to negative number and positioned its side facing front of the vehicle. There are even some examples of it in the workshop.

Great work.
I'd love to see any simulation that would allow gliding though, air viscosity in Stormworks is way too weird for realistic aircrafts

This is amazing! I will definately play around with this some in the future. (Of course, I will give credit to you)
