How to manually regrow trees
THIS GUIDE MAY WONT WORK ANYMORE

UPDATE 05 FROM SONS OF THE FOREST
This guide still works but trees will regrow since the update 05.
"Tree regrowth (setting is on by default) with a 10% chance to randomly regrow when you sleep".

You've just cut down a few trees and bushes, sadly they will stay chopped of. With a quick and easy workaround, you can bring the whole forest back to life. Just follow these simple steps.

Works both, on multiplyer and singleplayer!

  1. Save your game and return to the main menu (You do not need to fully close the game).
  2. Open your save file. You can find it at "AppDataLocalLowEndnightSonsOfTheForestSavesXXXSingleplayerXXX".
  3. Open the "WorldObjectLocatorManagerSaveData.json" file (you can use the standard notepad).
  4. Remove the whole content and type in the code below (I do not recommend to delete the file!).
  5. Save the file and hop in to the game. The forest will now be like you never touched it.

Originally posted by New JSON Code:
{"Version": "0.0.0","Data":{"WorldObjectLocatorManager": "{\"Version\":\"0.0.0\",\"SerializedStates\":[],\"SerializedName\":\"WorldObjectLocatorManager\",\"UniqueFile\":true}"}}

Hint: You can open your AppData Folder by writing %appdata% in your windows searchbar. This will open your AppData\Roaming directory, so just click on "AppData" in the adressbar.

Hint: If you are not sure which of the save files is the correct one, you can just save the game again and check the "last changed" directory.

If you know about JSON or programming in general
Every tree and bush got a serial hash number which will be placed in the .JSON file. So technically every single time you start the game, first the map is beeing loaded with every tree and bush existing. The file will be loaded and the specific objects will be destroyed.
By going into the array of the file and just deleting specific parts or even a single element, you have full control over which tree or bush exactly you want to regrow. However, this will mean that you need to know the serial hash number for the specific object.

There is no WorldObjectLocatorManagerSaveData.json in my save folder, just a SaveData zip file

Thank you so much for this! Cant believe regrowing trees are not a part of the game...

@ciderrs
Seems like you did something wrong, yes. If you follow the steps correctly, every single part of the nature would come back (fully).

when i do this, only the stumps come back? Am I doing something wrong?

@Santas Helper
There is no script in the game doing it. So yep, they do NOT regrow rn.
Santas Helper 7 Mar, 2023 @ 3:09pm
why would you claim with 100% certainty they do not? i am fairly certain a new tree will spawn if nothing is within the radius of its spawn location as a little sapling and each season it will get bigger until poof, big tree. im literally watching my backyard regrow in my game, just dont murder the new baby trees that come up. same is true for other vegetation, they just wont pop up when you are in the area or immediately next to areas you have cleared, go into a cave or save and quit and come back and new growth will start to form where it is possible. granted i am only playing single player and have cut very few trees down in my game, i was fully nomadic for first 4 "years" of seasons, but after beating story i finally started to build in an area and am already noticing new growth. this cant just be placebo effect, things are there that were not there before... perhaps it has to do with whether or not you clear the stumps?

@RocketGrams
100% sure. There is (right now) no script in the game doing it. However, didn't tested it with trees which got chopped down by Kelvin or other AI's.

Are you sure they don't regrow cause I have definitely had some trees come back in my current game maybe the length of time for regrow is just super long? they might've came back from a bug with Kelvin... He was the one how cleared that area of trees while i sent them down zip lines.
