How to RECOVER your SAVE! [Works for Multiple Characters]
By 💢AFYRSON💢
Ok, so if you are like me, you made more than one character and got bamboozled when the game crashed and "lost" your save files. Following those steps will ensure that you'll get your characters back.

From what I have seen the issue is not that your files were lost or are corrupted, instead the game for some reason does not read them correctly. The solution for that would be to create new save data and replace it with the old save data.

HERE IS HOW TO DO IT!

Recovering 1st Character
This only works assuming that you have not somehow overwritten your lost save files by messing around with them before attempting this fix.

Part 1 - Locate and backup your files
  1. Press Win + R and enter %localappdata%
  2. Locate "Hogwarts Legacy" and navigate to Saved > SaveGames > and copy the folder you see there (bunch of numbers in the name)
  3. Paste your save game backup in a safe location on your desktop.
Part 2 - Start a clean save
  1. Launch HL and delete any characters that you may have created when trying to solve the save file issue.
  2. Close the game and once again press Win + R, enter %localappdata%, locate the Save folder under
    Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\[numbers] and DELETE IT!
This will force the game to create a new save folder on launch.

IMPORTANT!
Choose the same body type and name that you had on your lost save, otherwise the character you see in the main menu and its name may be different (Note, that in-game the character's appearance and name should be fine either way).
  1. Launch the game again and create a new character.
  2. Play until two auto saves are made (one is made when you see the first cinematic, the second one when you drink a potion).
  3. DO NOT CLOSE THE GAME and navigate to the save directory folder under:
    Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\[numbers].
  4. Find the two auto saves, notice when they were last modified, they should be the two newest in the folder
    e.g. HL-00-10 & HL-00-11. Note their names.
  5. Go to the save backup folder you made and find the save that you wish to recover (most likely the "newest" one).
  6. Replace the name of the save you wish to recover from your backup folder with the name of the newest auto save that was made in step 4 (the one with higher number in the file name).
  7. Replace the save file from Users\[UserName]\AppData\Local\Hogwarts Legacy\Saved\SaveGames\[numbers] with the renamed file from your backup folder.
  8. With the game still running, enter the pause menu and load the save that you just replaced (should be the one at the top of the list). Now your save should be restored.
  9. Go back into the main menu and see if the name/character appearance is correct.
  10. ENJOY
Recovering 2nd Character
IF YOU HAD MORE THAN ONE CHARACTER DO THIS!
  1. After you recovered your first character, go to the main menu and create a new one using a different character slot.
  2. Proceed the same way as described above, the only difference is that the save slot reference changes. This can be seen in the save file names:

    HL-00-XX is character 1
    HL-01-XX is character 2
HL-02-XX is character 3 and so on.
The steps remain the same you just need to put in the correct file names.
Regarding Save Backup
PLEASE NOTE
If you are not sure that you recovered the save that you intended to recover DO NOT make a manual save at any point when following this guide as it may overwrite your steam cloud save (which might be your only way of getting the lost files) and possibly lead to losing your progress.

Only make a manual save when you are 100% sure that everything is in place and works as intended and ALWAYS make a save backup on your computer when attempting to recover lost files.

If you need the steam cloud files you can download them here:

Ok so i deleted the whole ''Save'' folder and created a new character and waited until my character drank the potion and moved then i went to check and it still didn't create a new ''Save'' folder, so any tips ?

I assume you deleted the folder first like the guide says? If you did and it didn't work try deleting the whole "Save" folder not just the numbers one. On another note, as long as the new save files get generated you should be good to go, the part about deletign folders is there to make it easier to figure out which saves are the new ones.
