Update Nvidia DLSS for Better quality and performance!
By klappankaxD
The DLSS the game ships with is an old version. Manually update your DLSS file to the latest version to get improved quality, less ghosting, less noise and sometimes even better performance!

This is only for Nvidia GPUs in 2000-3000 and 4000 series. Doing this with a older card or AMD GPU is useless and won't do anything.

Guide is updated as soon as i find something new that actually helps with performance

Performance and more stutter fixes guide
So, i made a separate guide for potential stutter and performance fixes, check it out here!

That guide also helps improve my fps with some config file changes, really recommend it!

Time to swap DLSS Files
*Notice*

There are two ways to do this, one with DLSS Swappper (easiest and will backup the old dlss files automatically). This can also upgrade your other games with ease incase you have other games that uses DLSS.

Firstly, download DLSS Swapper (simplest and you can update all your games if you want): https://github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper
Download the latest version, its just simple install and also a portable version if you don't want to install
https://github.com/beeradmoore/dlss-swapper/releases

Then proceed download the latest DLSS in Swapper (Currently 3.1.1 as seen in picture)

Next, go to games and find Hogwarts Legacy, now click it and choose 3.1.1 (the newest as writing this guide, may be newer ones later, choose that then)

DONE

It will now use the latest to get better performance and quality (the old will be back uped)

Or you can do the method below

Method 2: Manually swap the DLSS File
You can also manually replace DLSS file from here: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-dll/

Download the latest and replace the old one located here

"steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Nvidia\DLSS\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64"

Be sure to have the game turned off or restart it afterwards
For Nvida 4xxx series using Frame Generation
You can also update the DLSS if you use a Nvidia 4xxx series card

This file is called DLSSG. You will do the same thing as the method 2, but the location for DLSSG is in another map
"steamapps\common\Hogwarts Legacy\Engine\Plugins\Runtime\Nvidia\Streamline\Binaries\ThirdParty\Win64"

This if for those using Nvidia Frame Generation. It can be downloaded here:

https://www.techpowerup.com/download/nvidia-dlss-3-frame-generation-dll/
F.A.Q: Read this before questioning
Does this work for AMD GPUs?
-No, closest would be to use FSR 2, it can't be updated tho.

What happens if game update?
-They could update the DLSS file or revert it. Check it after updating and see, you might have to apply it again. However, usually in most games its never updated and you have to do it yourself, it could take long long long time before they decide to update it, if ever since its easy to do yourself

Does Nvidia Drivers update the DLSS?
-No it don't, only the Devs when updating the game or YOU can update the DLSS. The devs and game are often gonna be behind on updates for DLSS, you will always get the latest with DLSS Swapper or by the manual method

Which DLSS preset should I use?
-Start with quality and feel if it feels smooth and ok. If not move on to the next preset until you are happy. It's a matter of quality contra performance and its only you who can decide what you are happy with. Quality=Better quality and Performance=worst quality but better fps

It looks blurry?
-Just upper the sharpness filter under preset a tad

How do I check which dlss version I have currently?
-Right click the dlss file in your hogwarts directory as mentioned above, then properties > information and you can see file version of DLSS

I get some kind of error
-Easiest is just to replace the backup file of DLSS that Swapper made, or just verify files in steam by right clicking the game in steam. Changing DLSS in Hogwarts should not give you any problems tho, i would suspect something else to be wrong since 2.5.1.0 is tested by many now and by me without any error for hours

How do i download Swapper on the github page?
-Look to the right where is says "Releases", also be sure to follow their install guide
If you would get some kind of error
Simply replace the backup file for DLSS which Swapper did in the same directory. You can also just verify the game cache in steam by right clicking the game in steam.

This should not at all break your game if you done it right. Its tested for many hours and i've myself been using it since start with 2.5.1.0. If something should break its probably that you've done something wrong or something else with your system.

For those saying it dosent install on w11 right click the program, more options, properties and I cant remember exactly as Ive never seen it before but something about being from another computer you have to allow that then it should install as normal

Using this method, DLSS 3.5.10 made my RTX3070Ti into a beast in Hogwarts Legacy. You can check my specs and settings below. The bottom like is: the game is running at 60fps locked with vsync enabled and no dips except when first loading the game for a couple of seconds. This game is absolutely gorgeous 😭😭

After doing this I think I am getting worse performance. Is this possible or am I imagining things?
etnies_35 20 Sep, 2023 @ 6:02pm
My game works so much better now, thanks. Im using an i5 10600k 16gb rtx 2080 for people's reference. Makes me mad, its such a simple fix but the devs are too lazy to fix it. Probably never get optimized though, but its the last game ill buy from them anyway..

Ah okay, thank you.

correction the manual install link, I don't use the installer so idk about that
TitanBeats 16 Sep, 2023 @ 12:50pm
no, the link provided will always have the newest dlss it's updated every release.
Ratking15 15 Sep, 2023 @ 12:39am
That isn't answering my question as I'm asking about the guide since the newest DLSS update the program provided was older and less improved than the one the game is now patched with, which I presume is not what I want to do since then it's going to make performance worse no?
klappankaxD  [author] 14 Sep, 2023 @ 10:50pm
It will never be "invalid". Updating and using the newest DLSS update available will always be better since it will be a improved version in some way.
Ratking15 19 Jul, 2023 @ 7:08am
I presume that this guide is invalid now as the game is now on version 3.1.2 and the latest version the program provides is 3.1.13?
