Overall Tips

generally to beat this troll follow this format:

1. damage (any weapon you want, I'll go into that later)
2. jump or dodge (move using WASD and press space)
3. damage again

tips:

attack him when he's recovering stamina, or doing his little alpha chant
if you're overwhelmed you can run away, and he will forget about you and go back to sitting
attack him not too far away, because he can RUN. at a shorter distance he'll walk
try to attack around a tree or smth circular, walking around in circles around him will make him walk wayyyyyy slower

using arrows (my fav)

this monster is a beast, at a mid-high level archery level he takes 13 arrows to beat. THIRTEEN.

tips:

try to recollect the arrows that you miss, as you need a ton
shoot, then move, he will sprint at you if he has a clear line of sight

using a stone axe (acceptable)

at a maxed out axe skill, beating him up with one is fun. but he takes 22 hits with a stone axe. :'(

tips:

try to hit him when he's regaining stamina or doing his chant thing
run away as soon as you see him start his attack

using a tribal axe (bonus points)

I love this method because of the irony. like yes beat him up with his own stick.

- you can find a tribal axe in most large camps, look around the middle of the camp, and there should be one on the floor

this is by far the quickest method, taking only ten swings to end him in 1.5 minutes.

tips:

stamina is rlly important here, swing only once and walk away
like the other methods, maintain a medium distance from him to prevent him sprinting at you

if all else fails, throw your weapons (unit behaviour)

if your weapons are trash at their job you could always throw them, or if you're that one person that maxed out their throwing ability you can use this.

warning: super inefficient, took me 4 stone axe, 2 stone pickaxe, 5 tribal axe, 2 obsidian bone blade and 2 stick blade throws to kill this SOB.

tips:

run around in circles, to recollect the weapons you flung at him while making sure he stays walking slow
no more tips, good luck!

once he's dead

these aren't rlly tips to help, this is just suggestions because I have a personal vendetta against this dude for ending my runs.

destroy his prized possessions (his dumb axes)
eat his bones, bone soup is actually OP

Nothing was mentioned about hitting him in the head. I assume...because of the weird helmet, he takes much less damage to headshots. I've killed him with a lot less than 13 arrows to the chest. Maybe as little as 3 with my bugged bow skill maxed at 70/100
When I killed one with 3 arrows he was returning to sit down in his camp and bledout in a sleeping position. I was scared and confused if he was dead or not...

I met one once near the second friendly camp. I died. Game reloaded. Never saw ANY enemies in big camps again. O.o
