How to have fun in Hunt: Showdown
By Slab Squatthrust
Dirt easy guide to having fun in a cowboy game. Follow this and if you're anything like me, you will get your moneys worth from this game.

Note: Most of these require you to pay attention to your MMR, unfortunately, as the upper echelon of hunt is completely unfun to play in (At least for me, and anyone else who has other commitments in life)

Step 1: Have friends to play this game with.
If you don't have any, try the hunt discord channel or something.

Playing with randoms sucks.

Preferably find people with iron wills who can avoid getting tilted, and that are similarly skilled to you, so they don't either drag you up to a MMR level you will fail at, or get dragged up by you and have no fun themselves.

Step 2: Play in teams of three.
Playing in teams of two means there is one more team on the map, significantly increasing the odds one team is just sitting around waiting to third party you and steal your hard fought wins in a very boring way.

This waiting can lead to stalemates of teams who both sit around waiting for someone to attack the other team before they join the fight, meaning playing offensively pits you against twice as many enemies.

It also allows you to keep track of where people are and gives you a better idea of how many people are in the game.

Finally, from my personal experience there are much more solo snipers in duo's as they perform better there.

Playing in a trio lets you play more aggressively, and reduces the impact of one person making a mistake.

Step 3: Try different weapons and strategies.
While playing this game, you will find a weapon you really like, or a weapon that you do particularly well with.

Don't exclusively use this weapon, or your MMR will raise and you will be forced to use the same tactics and gun if you want to win. It will also get old, as you will find yourself in the same situations over and over again.

Instead try new loadouts, keeping things fresh, learning new tactics and dying in new and creative ways.

This also keeps you in the MMR where you can actually try new things and do well, and where you will run into other people trying new and fun things instead of just playing the same thing every match.

If you lack creativity to decide this, use a randomizer or take the weapons hunters come with.
(Note: This creativity includes tools and consumables too!)

Step 4: Avoid solely using shotguns and long ammo
It seems strange, but shotguns and long ammo will reduce the amount of fun you will have in the long run.

These types of ammo are very powerful in very specific situations, but weak in most others. If you play shotguns or long ammo, you limit your strategies and you may feel the need to camp to do well.

If you take a shotgun, remember rushing is far more entertaining and blood pumping than sitting in a corner.

If you take long ammo, remember that its more fun to get into a dynamic facility wide fight than sit outside a compound where people are camping.

With both these strategies, if the other team does not want to play into your range, either try to fight them anyways and die so you can start another round, or just leave if you have the bounty.

Step 5: Deal with losing streaks
Due to how MMR works, after doing consistently well (Or even just barely above average) there is a good chance you will lose a bunch of rounds in a row once you reach the highest MMR you can succeed at.

To break this, simply take ridiculous loadouts, or builds built around a meme, or thematic loadouts. Doing so will allow you to have fun while you are losing, either due to the silly situations you end up in or because you are more focused on trying to get the loadout to work to feel frustrated.

Taking off-meta lets you pass off your losses as “Well, I was trying something crazy anyways, I didn’t think it would work”, or if you win it feels much better because your bonkers build somehow worked.

Step 6: Don’t care about how others play
Others have been playing this game longer than you.

They will instantly click your head from hundreds of meters away. They will use the same cheesy weapons every round. They will camp and refuse to play any range but the one that gives them the highest chance of winning. They will burn you instantly. They will leave without fighting anyone.

You cannot control how others play, only how you react to them. So take it in stride!

You will lose to the same thing over and over, but when you finally stand over a corpse holding a stupid strong gun it feels that much better knowing you outplayed the one who had the advantage.

Step 7: NEVER PRESTIGE
Prestige is for those who lack self control. Prestige takes away the “OP” weapons and in theory makes the game fresh by making you use the underwhelming starter weapons, but if you just take the low tier weapons anyway the only benefit is a weapon skin.

You should avoid prestige because it takes away all the other trash weapons, tools and special ammo you can have fun with. It also resets your money, which means that you will be (Temporarily) limited in your loadout options.

If you are low on money, use free hunters for a while.

The two real reasons to prestige are: You run out of money and need a fresh start, or you like showing off a high number.

Final Notes:
If you are running out of money, it can be a sign you are using the same high tier weapons every match. Try downgrading your uppercut to a pax or double barrel to a romero, maybe try a springfield instead of a mosin, or swap the frag with a dynamite stick.

Some people only care about winning, and don’t have fun if you lose. This is fine, but you probably will not like this game. Trying hard is fun, but if you exclusively sweat you will end up frustrated when you lose anyways.

If you try something else and like it, go for it, don’t let random internet guy decide what you like. This is a guide, not a declaration or ruleset. At the end of the day, its a game, its meant for fun and really all that matters is you enjoy it. Some days will be better than others. This is what worked for me, and I hope it works for you!

I think more people need to see this guide to see that there are more ways to play besides shotgun-camping and bush-wookie sniping :zagsnooze:

Would actually be more healthy if it was "uninstall hunt" guide.

I swear it feels like people are trying to find things to get triggered by in these days

Prestige is an optional part of the game, people aren't and shouldn't be forced to use it, just because you take enjoyment in your virtual dick having higher number count doesn't means everyone feels the same, a person who can't limit themselves without an outside factor still has no self control, don't prestige if you don't want to and you can if you want to, you don't have the right to force other people or shame other people, those people could find many things to shame about your virtual numbers, a person that can barely compete with good loadouts won't be able to compete when they're limited in options, keep your coping mechanism to yourself gleen, this isn't the place

I came into this fully expecting another "UnInStAlL hUnT" guide and was pleasantly surprised. Thank you for your contribution. I fully agree with all your points but prestige. Its all a matter of opinion, but I like prestiging and being stuck with simple weapons. There is something rewarding about crawling back up to the good guns, but at the end of the day its whatever you do to have the most fun!

Great guide! I agree to everything except "Never prestige". It's fun for me and prestiging is highly subjective.
