(Old Quake) No Soundtrack Fix
By Baroneu
In this guide, I will show you a way to fix your soundtrack on Quake. Keep in mind that this is my very first guide on Steam, so I apologize if there's any mistakes.

Soundtrack Fix
The Steam version of the old Quake soundtrack is missing from its original folder. This guide will be very short since it's a fix that's very easy to do.

The original soundtrack consist of 10 ogg files that are unfortunately missing from the ''id1'' folder where it should originally be.

But luckily the files are still inside of the ''id1'' folder inside the ''rerelease''. You first need to copy the files inside the folder ''music'' inside ''id1'' inside ''rerelease'' and then, you have to create a folder called ''music'' inside the ''id1'' on the old Quake files. Put the ten files inside this new created folder and that's it.

EDIT:
This fix will only work in source ports that have engines that play soundtrack music files. Source ports that are capable of playing soundtrack music:

QuakeSpasm [quakespasm.sourceforge.net]
Mark V [quakeone.com]
DarkPlaces [icculus.org]

Thanks for reading!

Thank you.
Could it be that it doesn't work because I just drag and drop and didn't install/extract the source port inside the Steam Quake folder?
I should have tried that before unistalling Quake and erasing the Quakespasm files; should have tried if, having Quakespasm inside the Quake Steam folder, the music worked for Darkplaces too, with drag and drop.

that's weird. two of the source you mentioned have engines that play soundtrack music files. there's this other guide (not made by me) that I think will help you with your problem.

I tryed with Steam's Quake (original), Quakespasm and Darkplaces.
I did that with the drag and drop method (the game .exe in the source-port .exe).

which source port are you using?

Yep, I'm sure. I copy the "music" folder in the id folder with the save-files (.sav).

there are two id1 folders, one in inside the folder rerelease and the other one is inside the normal quake folder, are you sure the tracks are in both of these folders?

It did work some years ago, but do not work now; maybe I should just restart the pc (don't know why in this case, but that's what I do when something do not work properly :- )
