AOE2 Death Sounds

Welcome to AEO2 Death Sounds, a modification for Crusader Kings II.

I'm honestly surprised that a mod like this was never made, considering how iconic and meme-worthy the AOE2 sounds are. Better late than never!

All gendered death sounds (i.e. those where you can hear a male or female voice) have been replaced with corresponding male and female death sounds from the original Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings (NOT the Definitive Edition, which uses entirely different death sounds).

Currently this mod does NOT replace non-gendered death sounds (i.e. where a male or female voice cannot be heard, such as beheading and hanging) so you may seldom hear these new death sounds when executing prisoners, unless your character is cruel and/or you prefer 'great blot' as your method of execution. Usually you'll hear the new sounds when characters die from old age/illness, assassination or battlefield shenanigans.

As an added bonus, the villager creation sound will now play when a child is born. No more will your ears bleed to the sound of a screeching infant.

Children also utilise the new death sounds but use edited versions which have had their pitch increased to make them sound of a more appropriate age, so you should still feel bad when you have them smothered with a pillow.

✔️ Ironman compatible - This mod does not modify the checksum and will not prevent you from getting achievements!

✔️ Savegame compatible - Saves made before downloading this mod can be loaded and played as normal!

This should work with virtually any other mod. The only potential for conflict that can arise is if you're using another mod that edits the sound.sfx file in the game's interface folder. Most mods, even the major overhaul ones like A Game of Thrones, generally don't mess with the in-game sounds so you'll be hard pressed to come by any compatibility issues.

Any potential mod conflicts you do encounter will NOT cause crashes or corrupt your saves.
