🛰️ Mining Station guide 🛰️
Af Sushi_Rocks
Manual for the "mining station" start guide.
THIS GUIDE IS NOT FINISHED AND THE DRAFT A BIT OLD!
I am releasing it anyway, because it still might help people. I don't have time to overhaul it right now (job), but I might do that eventually.

All topics and list items are sorted by importance (from my point of view).

If you liked this guide, please consider writing a comment, giving it a thumbs up or a 5-star-rating to help other people find it! ❤️

If you want to leave a lower rating, please consider writing a comment about why you did so, so that I can improve my guide!

01 FIRST STEPS
1. Stop the botanics and disable logistics for them. Do the same for the water collector and CO2 producer in the botanics room.

DO NOT turn off the heater. We want to salvage the botanics facilites later and low temperatures will damage the equipment!

NOTE: Equipment getting damaged by cold temperatures may change in future updates. Inform yourself if you still need to do this in the Steam forums beforehand.

2. Stop the composter and logistics for the composter. (Composting takes time and we don't want to leave ressources behind. We will also need the biomass for the algae kitchen later.

3. Set rules for the storages on the mining facility so that scrap and metal plates will be stored in the storage closest to the industry facilities.
02 CREW PREPARATIONS
You usually have 6 crew people.

First, we will split our crew in 3 groups with 2 people each to make them work more effciently and make them require less facilities (beds)

1. Open "Schedules"-menu. Create 3 general schedules where break and sleeping times don't overlap. Add 2 hours break time in the middle of the work day. Take one hour break time away at the end of the day.

2. Delete all the study time scheduled. At the start we want our crew to take care of the practical labor tasks, because we run low on time.

3. Add people to these 3 schedules in 2 / 2 / 2 configuration.
NOTE: If you have two people skilled in industry, DO NOT put them in one schedule group or they may block each other from using facilities.

4. Select 1 character. Go to the character "SKILLS" menu in the bottom left corner. Look for the "WEAPONS" skill and check how high it is. Select the 5 best shooters. Draft the team with the best shooters, assign them to the storage next to the mining station airlock (right click) to take things out of the storage. On NORMAL difficulty, there are 5 weapons in the storage (4 pistols, 1 shotgun). Equip them with the 5 weapons from the storage once they are there. Give the shotgun to the person with the best aim.

5. Now undraft 1 person that has the least shooting skill. Bind the remaining four to group 1 with LEFT SHIFT + [1] OR CTRL + 1. You can select or deselect certain characters with SHIFT + LEFT MOUSE CLICK. This is now your attack team that you can always call by pressing 1.

6. Now send them to the shuttle and clear/discover all parts of the abandoned/derelict ship.

7. When you have discovered all rooms of the ship, undraft the group. Start salvaging all ressources from the ship EXCEPT hull blocks (do those last). That's because the hull will somewhat isolate the internals of the ship from heat or cold and you will destroy things mounted on the walls if you deconstruct the hull first.

> Optional: Change the names of the crew members to their character trait or any trait which you find most important (Battle 1, Battle 2 / Wimp, Sociopath... etc.)
03 HOW 2 GET ENOUGH HULL BLOCKS
We want to have enough hull blocks for all facilities in our new ship.

- MINING
Give order to mine the metal, water ice and carbon asteroids and ONLY those.
- RECYCLER
Give continous recycle orders for all options in the recycler
- METAL REFINERY
Give continous order for producing metal sheets (this will use all the carbon and metal from the asteroid mining).
- ASSEMBLER
Give continous order for producing hull blocks.
04 BUILDING THE SHIP
- Start by building a 20x20 cube in the middle of whatever central line.
This shape has the best hull/interior space ratio.

- built an airlock in one of the corners.
NOTE 1: I would advise to plan building storages nearby and the mining pod hangars as well, since they otherwise have longer travel times between loading off cargo and docking again.
NOTE 2: I would also advice you to build the airlock at the top left corner. That way the shutter where goods are loaded off (right one) will be closer to storages.
(It looks different on my screenshots, bc I wanted to show the design in the best optic way.)

Build...
- 1 system core
- 1 Energium power reactor
- 1-2 power nodes
- 1 hull stabilizer
- 3 thermal regulators
- 2 oxygen units
- 1 toilet
- 2 bunk beds

- 2 big storages
- 2 (empty) mining pod hangars
- 1 shuttle bay

- 2 MK1 Hyperdrives
- 1 navigation console
- sitting area for eating (2 chairs, 1 table - NO couch, bc those use infrablocks!
- 1 algae kitchen
- 1 mini storage for food stuff near the kitchens
- 1 water purifier

Don't forget to make your crew switch to the new ship as HOME SHIP when life support etc. is there. You can do this in the crew menu.

Relocate the shuttle and the 2 pods (1 miner pod & 1 builder pod)!
---
WHEN YOU ARE READY BUILDING THE BASIC SHIP
-> Jump out of the base system so that you can "abandon" the original mining station.
-> Jump one system away, then back again and drop into the system you came from.
-> Select the button for the "claimable" ship (which is the mining station)
-> Select "Abandon", DON'T click on "claim"
-> Start salvaging the old mining station. Transfer everything.
---
NOW

Build:
- 1 research console
- 1 additional hyperdrive
- 1 gas scrubber
- 1 recycler

... and start researching as well as recycling the stuff you get from the ship.
05 THE FINISH
After that:
- mine the remaining asteroids if you haven't done that already
- Finish all transfers

Then:
JUMP INTO THE FIRST SYSTEM CLOSE TO YOU...

YOU'RE DONE!

Have fun! <3
