This guide should help you resolve lag issues with Borderlands, Borderlands 2 and the Pre-Sequel over LAN play. I'm posting this here because these are the only things that worked for me and it might help someone else. If you're experiencing heavy lag while playing over a local network (LAN, WIFI, whatever) then this is for you.


Open disable all adapters that are not your WIFI or LAN connection before launching borderlands. If you have a VPN make sure that's disabled as well.


Browse to
Open the file WillowEngine.ini in notepad.

Find the line: and change it to
Save the file and set it to read-only: Right click -> Properties -> Tick Readonly.


Start steam in offline mode: from the main window.

Now launch borderlands.

Hopefully one or all of these will help with the random lag you get while playing over a LAN.
