How to play Left 4 Dead 2 without actually playing Left 4 Dead 2 (Using hallucinations)
By Rat King
Have you ever wanted to play L4D2 anywhere you go? While you're sitting in school or work? Have you ever gotten locked in the pillow room with no technology to occupy yourself? Ever wanted to just blow off everything and just play No Mercy on a whim but don't have the time or money to do so?

Well you have come to the right place!

Thanks to the wonders of science and brain chemistry, starting today it is now possible! And it's not a joke either, i've tested this myself and i was able to play Left 4 Dead 2 by mentally projecting it into reality using sensory deprivation. It works! You just have to try it.

Requirements
Before we get started, there are some requirements. I know the idea of mental visual projection is complicated, but it is possible if you do it correctly. In order for you to pull it off here are some requirements.

The Requirements

  • Many hours of L4D2 (Being able to imagine of what playing the game would look like.)
  • A Good Imagination
  • Ability to daydream
  • Sleep Deprivation or General Fatigue (Any sleep disorder is also recommended and helpful)
  • Ability to bend reality at will (Perception changing skills)
  • Mental Disorders that interfere with brain chemistry (Autism, ADHD, Bipolar, Depression, etc. Otherwise if you're neurotypical this will be very hard to pull off.)
  • The ability to Reality Check
  • Boredom
  • Something to stare at so that the mental projection works. (White well-lit wall, computer screen, laptop, etc.)

Really what you need mostly is sleep deprivation, if you can already hallucinate at will then you're off to a good start. Otherwise here is the optional list. Not required but will help in triggering the mental projection.

Optional Objectives

  • History of drug use (Alcohol/Marijuana/etc)
  • Trauma/Disassociation
  • Medication Use (Like melatonin for insomnia/hypersomnia)
  • Lucid Dreaming skills
  • History of Pyschosis
  • 100> IQ
  • Being a Pyschonaut

Once you met all of the requirements we can now proceed to the next steps.
Step 1. - Find a setting
This is the most obvious step, where are you going to play it? Obviously anywhere, but you need somewhere to mentally project Left 4 Dead 2 on.

The most likely setting is somewhere that's boring, like school, work, or being stuck in the pillow room at the psych ward. These settings have one theme in common, having walls painted white that are well-lit. Or if you're lucky to have a computer or laptop with you, you can use the light and smudges on the monitor to help you mentally project left 4 dead 2.

Once you find a source to mentally project on, proceed to step 2..
Step 2. - Preparation
Now that you've found your setting, you need to make some preparations.
In order for the mental projection to work, you need somewhere to project it. (Like a wall, computer screen, tablet, etc.)

In this case, a laptop or computer screen is best for this procedure, otherwise use the other options provided. A Computer screen can provide light and text. It is best if the screen is also dirty.
Because your brain will try to find edges, scratches, and areas to mentally project, otherwise it won't work. If you have a computer, pull up a random article or a wall of text, and make your screen bright.
This is what your setup should look like.

If you still haven't figured it out yet, here's a checklist i made for you so you know what to do before you proceed to the next step, you need to have all of these in order for it to work.
  • Wall/Screen/Ceiling ☑
  • Lighting/Backlight ☑
  • Text/Edges/Smudges ☑

After this is done, go to step 3!
Step 3. - The *Magic*
Now this is where the fun begins..

You need to be actively hallucinating in order for this to work, like if you stare at a wall while you're sleep deprived and you see images that's how you know.

Now stare at the computer screen/wall, like this.
Now continue staring, gaze into it like the abyss, like your daydreaming, imagine your playing L4D2.
DO NOT LOOK AWAY! Keep your eyes in the fixed position, everything around you will blur, and the computer screen will start to transform. That means is working! Continue staring and it will work.
AND PRESTO!!! YOU'RE NOW PLAYING LEFT 4 DEAD 2 USING SENSORY DEPRIVATION!

You can continue "playing" as long as you like, or as long as you can before you get snapped out of it.

BUT REMEMBER! You can only get it to keep working as long as you continue imagining your playing left 4 dead 2, otherwise it will fade away and you will shift back into reality.
Images you can see while you're mentally projecting.
The black and white images aren't the only thing you can project, it's not just still images like in the guide, in reality they would be actual moving pictures. Here's an idea of what you might see when you mentally project L4D2.

Troubleshooting
Q: It doesn't work!
A: It means you're not doing it correctly, here are some reasons it's not working correctly.
  • You're not staring long enough
  • There aren't enough edges for your brain to project on
  • Your projection area isn't bright/well-lit enough
  • You need to move closer
  • One of the requirements aren't met
  • You aren't sleep deprived enough
If any of these do not work, post in the comments and i will try to help you mentally project L4D2.

Q: Does it work with only L4D2?
A: Not only with L4D2, you can do this with any game you want. As long as you have a good memory, imagination, and a good amount of hours on that particular game.

Q: I can only play for a few seconds mentally projecting, how do i play longer?
A: You need to keep your mind fixated on Left 4 Dead 2, you also need to be completely detached from reality so you can continue playing. Do not pay attention to your surroundings or else your mental playthrough will be very short lived.

Q: No matter how hard i stare, it won't show up. How do i make it appear?
A: You need to dirty/smudge your monitor to provide more edges for your brain, or if you're using the wall, move closer. The more edges that are present on the surface/screen, the better chances the mental image will appear.

Q: How do i add color to my mental images?
A: You can't really control on how much color is added to your mental projection, but using more of your brainpower will increase the chances of color being added to your playthrough.

Q: Where's the audio?
A: Audio is only possible if you're absolutely sleep deprived, have schizophrenia, or are currently under the effects of THC.
Conclusion
You've reached the end!

And if this guide helped teach you a trick that will change your life forever, that means it worked!
Now you can mentally project L4D2 anywhere you go!

This is no bs even though it sounds like it but when I play a lot of L4D2 really loud, I can hear the SI sounds while doing other stuff, kinda similar to when you go to a rave that lasts a few days and right after it finishes everything sounds like trippy music for a while

Can confirm this works. I did this many years ago(when L4D was in its prime) & I was able to dream up an insta-kill spot. The next day I told my friends about the dream & we proceeded to try replicating it in game… to our amazement the spot worked!
