Omschrijving
Gotha G.IV is new member of my frequently updated WW1 collection of realistic WW1 warplanes; The Great War In The Air. Yes, World War I was known as The Great War prior to World War II. If you ask why I chose Gotha G.IV over G.V? Because G.V has significantly smaller engine nacelles and the fuel tank is inside the fuselage, while G.IV has fuel tanks on the nacelles which is more suitable to make in Stormworks due to limited space in the narrow fuselage.

(Realistic in scale, weight, fuel and power)

HISTORY
By the end of 1916, it was obvious to the German Army air service that the Zeppelin attacks were an impressive failure especially when compared to the far less expensive but more effective twin-engined bombers that used only a fraction of the airship's technical, material and human resources. - Gotha! by Peter M Grosz

Bombing raid on the UK by Gotha aircraft would cause considerable loss of life, widespread panic, disruption to the British war effort and an effect on moral out of all proportion to their actual military effectiveness. It was the 25th of May 1917 and the bombs were delievered by twenty three 520 hp Gotha G.IV bombers of Kagohl 3, purpose built for attacking mainland Great Britain and capable of carrying a 600 kg bomb load. - Wingnut Wings

The Gotha G.IV was a heavy bomber used by the Luftstreitkräfte (Imperial German Air Service) during World War I. It was the first mass-produced large airplane. - Wikipedia

FEATURES:
  • I used physics bomb sight by Lucas but bombing accuracy was still not very good for every speed and altitude. So I added some conditions for precision bombing at certain altitude, speed (throttle)..etc. Read the information on the related instrument panel for details.
  • Stabilizer has also altitude hold functionality at current level as long as you do not give new input. You can still give yaw input without temporarily disrupting the altitude.
  • Gunner turrets use robotic pivots because velocity pivots are not stable in multiplayer, so aim angles are not as good as velocity pivots but added gun camera and monitor to aim below. Dorsal gunner can fire through the fuselage (known as Gotha tunnel).
  • The payload (650kg bombs and 700kg fuel) is quite heavy for its two 260 hp engines, so I left the reserve fuel tank empty by default and added automatic-trim correction while releasing the bombs. You can increase/decrease starting fuel by your need.
  • Scale is 1:1 as usual and weight, fuel (weight), engine power are very close to real one.
  • Although not very necessary since it is not a fighter aircraft but still has mouse control feature if you need as well as HOTAS throttle mode.

NOTES:
  • DISABLE infinite fuel and electric. Otherwise engine may not work as intended.
  • Start-up procedure is written in cockpit, although it is pretty straight forward to start.
  • Takeoff with headwind, not tailwind if it is windy.

Below are the specifications of the vehicle I made for Stormworks. To see/compare real specifications, look for Wikipedia or other sources.

ThatRandomDood,
Sure, my latest plane, "Aerovan", has the newest gyro which I recommend over this.

Hey, is it alright if I use your gyro in one of my planes? It's really good and I like the features it has :) I'll credit you

Lumi <3,
Currently I don't know because an update few months ago changed air drag in Stormworks, so my planes fly 10-15% faster since then.

Higher you fly less accurate it will be.

What altitude is the un-adjusted sight accurate at?
hold on
i will find the link

Zeppelin-Staaken R XVI ?
Does it perhaps have a Wikipedia page?
Thales  [auteur] 17 jan om 2:42
I couldn't find any info about g-xvi. I am not going to make it but I am curious about it.
it is essentially 3 times bigger than this, plus it has four engines and a slightly different color scheme. Thank you, Thales.
