That part where the guy has tired but confident voice and immediately jumps to the meat of the issue.
All right gentlemen, if your Assassin's Creed Brotherhood doesn't launch, or just flashes black screen with quarter of screen in white at you, and your EventViewer log looks something like this:

Faulting application name: ACBSP.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5937a00f Faulting module name: ACBSP.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5937a00f Exception code: 0xc0000005 Fault offset: 0x005a81f5 Faulting process id: 0x3ad4 Faulting application start time: 0x01d92121fbbd2d71 Faulting application path: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed Brotherhood\ACBSP.exe Faulting module path: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Assassins Creed Brotherhood\ACBSP.exe Report Id: 519b3dd4-846c-4bf1-820f-0512eb675e54 Faulting package full name: Faulting package-relative application ID:

The thing you need to do is to move your game install to your C:/ drive. Yes, the one with Windows. That's it.

Things I tried before that did not work:
  • verifying the files
  • compatibility mode with previous Windows versions
  • running the game as admin
  • creating SAVES folder in C:\Users\your account name\Saved Games\Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
  • messing with .ini file in said folder

Hopefully this will help and save some time for at least a few poor souls trying to play this game.

(I'm adding this mostly for search engines) Additionally, it looks like the same thing happens to Assassin's Creed 2 and Assassin's Creed Revelations. No idea, don't remember doing this for AC2 last time I played it.

Minor update: My Uplay copy of Revelations did display the same behavior - not launching when on D:\ drive. So this is not a Steam-only issue.
Special thanks to:
  • This fine gentleman for making me go "huh, let's try something".
  • Myself, for being a good sport.
  • Ubisoft, for making a financial decision of saving a buck and killing the servers for this game.
  • You, dear reader.

Cheers.

P.S. Obviously, this won't cover everybody. Please, if something else fixed your game not launching, feel free to share your solution in the comment section.
