US ,did have tons of 12.7NATO ammos and this kind of ammo is quite nice actually,but US didnt design some new machineguns to replace the old M2HB.The QJZ89 i mentioned before, with 26.2KG's total weight, shooting 12.7mmX108mm can easily do all things that a 58KG's M2 can do.It means while US Army need Vehicles to move the HMGs,Chinese can move theirs with only three soldiers.Ukraine's NSV,Russia's KORD 12.7,even soviet's DShK is lighter than M2HB.The much higher mobility can affect the situation greatly.MG3,as an LMG... it shoot too fast. This can be a deadly disadvantages because to a machinegun its main job is to suppressing hostiles.Best rate of fire of LMGs is 700-800rpms according to some studies.When the sustainability of the suppressive fire decrease because fast fire rate,the MG3 increase the burden of the rear service.In my personal opinion, a good weapon, should AT LEAST treat soldiers, treat the countries' army, M2HB and MG3, from this point of view, well...

the MG3 is an LMG and is in use as such- the M2 retains it's good-enough accuracy and shoots standard .50 ammunition which we use for the M107 anti-material rifle, and we have such large stockpiles of both. The M2 has the advantage of being able to tear through cars and some (Russian) APCs. Cost-effective weapons are the idea. It's the same reason the Garand was chambered in 30-06- we had so much left over from the 1903 Springfield, B.A.R. and 1919s of WW1.

U know uh, a GOOD weapon is not only a 'work'ing one.This three,M2,MG3,Maxim...they are out of date.UA use M1910 because there are a few Maxim guns left in this country,but obviously American uses M2 because of a totally different reason.M2HB is a 1800$ HMG,in comparison with the QJZ89,the HMG of my motherland,the M2HB costs more dollars with less accuracy and heavier mess. and Germany well... MG3 is not a HMG, and its fast rate of fire decrease its sustainability... yes thats EXACTLY what comment i wanna give them,they 'WORKS' but they are surely not good guns.

The M2 works... so does the MG3. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. The Ukrainians still have some M1910 Maxim guns in service, though I haven't seen any footage of them being used.

i once tried actuator but it works very strange, and also ,use wheels can absorb tons of recoil.
and...both M2 and MG3 are not good dogs.Really hope to see some new ideas in US and Germany

This is cool, but hard to use. You should post one where it's actuator controlled instead.
Btw, the M2 works. The Germans use the MG-3 which is a modernized MG42, so....
