Introduction
This guide will provide you with information how to disable V-Sync and uncap your framerate in order to achieve smooth and more enjoyable gameplay. However, this is not an optimization guide, thus you will not get any extra frames, better performance etc. It simply tells you how to remove the cap.
Patch 7.2.0
Since patch 7.2.0, you can turn off V-Sync and change your framerate in the game's options. You no longer need to manually modify the user config. That would make this guide outdated, however, technically you can still achieve those goals by modifying the file. It's just less convenient.
Steps to uncap FPS
  1. Find the file called GameUserSettings.ini in the following directory:
    C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsClient
In order to get a quick access to this directory, copy this path:
    %localappdata%\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsClient
and paste it into Windows Explorer search bar and find the file from there.

  2. Edit the file with a text editor of your choice (you can even use the default Notepad).

  3. Find the line bUseVSync and change its value from True to False.

  4. Find the line FrameRateLimit and set its value to the amount of FPS you want your game to run at. Currently, the highest value you can go is 120, however some people prefer the game to run at 90.

  5. Find the line FPSLimitMode and change its value, so it matches FrameRateLimit's value, minus extra zeros (i.e. 120 instead of 120.000000).

  6. Save and close the file. That's all!

Common misconceptions
  • After editing and saving the file, make it read-only - don't do that. Firstly, it is not needed at all, if you did everything I mentioned in the steps above, there's absolutely no need to do that, the game won't try to revert the settings back to the original framerate. Secondly, you could make yourself some problems - this config file contains other settings that you are very likely to tweak now and then (i.e. video or audio settings). Making the file read-only would prevent the game from saving changes that you yourself made in the game's settings menu.

  • You must add the extra zeros to the FrameRateLimit line - no, you must not. It's totally up to you. You can set the value either to 120 or 120.000000 (assuming you want the game to run at 120 FPS). After launching the game, the game itself will add the extra zeros to the config file.

  • You can't go higher than 120 FPS - unfortunately, this is true. Since the patch 5.1.0, the game has got a build-in lock that prevents it from running at more than 120 FPS. The reason BHVR made this decision is believed to be the fact that a higher framerate could possibly interfere with dedicated servers.

  • You should also change the FPSLimit line - no, you shouldn't. There's an additional, FPS related line in the config, but it seems to be absolutely useless. Changing the value of this line doesn't seem to provide any changes. There's no need to change its value nor match it with FrameRateLimit's.

  • You're gonna get banned for doing it - no, you're not. First of wall, you are not installing any third party software or gaining unfair advantage over other players (mostly from console). Your game just runs smoother and provides you with more enjoyable experience. Secondly, you're tweaking the config file that was brought to you by the very developers of the game. You're tweaking available options, you're not modding or interfering with game files etc.

The list might get expanded in the future.
The end
That's it, you've reached the end of this guide. If I helped you, make sure to rate the guide, add it to your favorites and write a comment! You might as well give it an award. Good luck in the Fog!

Guys, please read the guide carefully. "WindowsNoEditor" folder has no impact on the new versions. The best proof of this, is when you install DbD on a new system (or delete the DeadByDaylight folder from localappdata), you won't see this folder, you'll see "WindowsClient" instead. IMPORTANT: don't forget to change the value of FPSLimitMode as well.

Yeah I have the settings the same in both and the new version does nothing. it still just sits at all the default settings thats what makes me think that there is a new config file somewhere else.

For 7.2.0 - After you change these settings, you have to do the same in the "WindowsNoEditor" folder as well. Or you can just copy the file from the windowsclient folder and overwrite the one in WindowsNoEditor. I also changed all FPS values in that "GameUserSettings" file to 120, and it's working fine for me still.

Does anyone know where the new config file is for 7.2.0 I am so pissed it reverted all my settings , i run my game at 200% screen resolution so its nice and crisp without it the game looks all blurry. I cant find the file to put it back to 200%.

If you want to go back to the default framerate, simply set bUseVSync to True.
