If you ever used the Black Mesa to download a bunch of mods either by subscribing to them by hand or just picking a collection, you've probably noticed that at some point the game will start to "forget" to load some of the addons you're subscribed to. This is a common issue (That will probably never be fixed) that can be fixed by installing said mods in a custom folder.

This guide will show you how to easily install batches of mods to a custom folder.

Firstly, subscribe to a collection or download some mods on the workshop. Can't install something you haven't downloaded.


When the mods finish downloading, open up two file explorer tabs, one should be at "\your_steam_folder\steamapps\workshop\content\362890\" and the other at "\your_steam_folder\steamapps\common\Black Mesa\bms\custom\". If you don't have a custom folder, create one.

If you've done everything correctly up to this point you should be facing an empty folder (your custom folder) and a folder full of other folders (your workshop content folder). You are now going to go into each and every folder and move the vpk file (or yet another folder) into your custom folder.

After moving all of the files, go back to the workshop content folder and delete everything in there.


Then, unsubscribe from all of your addons on steam.
