Part two of a three-part map series. This is the hostel area at the height of the Combine's occupation. Part one can be found here!

//Requirements//
Nothing should be required as it should all be packed into the BSP. The map file itself should be "rp_city17residentialblock_occupation", minus the quotation marks.

Do note that while no game should be required, the size and scope of the map might cause some issues for users on lower end PCs despite rigorous optimization. As well, be aware that despite attempts to prevent conflicts, other workshop items might still conflict with assets used in the map.

//Gameplay//
  • d3_c17_06a to d3_c17_09 merged into one but redesigned to appear like it would during the earlier levels of Half-Life 2.
  • Occupation themed
  • Spawn room that can allow you to spawn in the Combine cameras, patrolling Civil Protection, and underground Manhacks. Along with four destinations for teleport.
  • Combine base in the hostel. Numerous buttons for Overwatch voice and Citadel alert.
  • New hospital building
  • Breencasts that can be activated.
  • A chunk of the road system is clear enough to allow drivable vehicles through. So if you have a drivable APC addon, it should work here!
  • Apartments cleared to allow custom furniture
  • Nodegraph and navmesh

While in the Gmod Sandbox mode, any dead bodies, blood stains, activated map scripts or other changes can be cleaned/reset using this: Pressing Q -> Utilities -> Admin -> Cleanup -> Cleanup Everything

//Development//
Much of making this map was pretty straightforward in terms of knowing what to change. Much of the rubble and the walls needed to go, the apartments needed to be unburnt, some of the destroyed buildings needed to be rebuilt, some parts of the skybox needed to be changed, and all the soundscapes needed updating.

Rebuilding the apartments was an interesting exercise though. In order to see what textures they might have used, I looked at some of the unseen sides of the brushes and used those textures that were left on them. It really made everything feel more cohesive as some of them were textures used elsewhere in the complex.

When working on the AI and some of the scripts, it required some relearning as to what I did on other maps. While the Breencast was easy to implement, it was the Civil Protection that took some time. There are a lot of moving parts to it.

//Closing//
With part two done, all that is left is the Pre-war version. Then finally, the Sector 16 update. After that, I will be briefly focusing on a larger project along with Youtube, and minor updates to pre-existing maps!

@洩矢魔理沙official This one doesn't have any of the street fighting damage and the Combine have a presence similar to what you would see in the early train station maps of Half-Life 2.
