People's Republic of Chryja

From the Encyclopedia of Republics of All kinds, IDzD publishing house:
Chryja - People's Republic of Chryja (PRC - not to be confused with the People's Republic of China). A puppet country separated from the Soviet Union due to various political turmoil as a preventive measure to avoid further escalation of the conflict that could lead to civil war in nearby territories. Chryja occupies the widest area of ​​the Chryjski Peninsula and the Brawlers' Island, which to this day remains uninhabited due to recent seismic activity and local superstitions and legends that anyone who puts a bad Bebok on the island will come and smash their stupid snout.

An excerpt from an interview * in "Radio Chryja Pracująca" with Bartłomiej Arcyrewicz, an opposition activist, about the upcoming elections:

EDITOR: Will the last completed investment turn the scales towards the current president, Mr. Ivanovich?
B. ARCYREWICZ: Bridges to the Brawlers' Island? Yes, nice, world-class. They may be very expensive, but at least they make no sense. Will they help in the elections? I doubt it. Despite the attractive views and cheap plots of land, I do not expect that anyone will be interested in settling there because of legends so deeply rooted in society.
EDITOR: Well, apart from practical issues, such an investment proves a lot. It shows that it is ours, we can afford it and it is not our last word ...
B. ARCYREWICZ: Mr. editor. Are you aware of the circumstances under which Mr. Ivanovich took up his present office? He won the elections by bribing the inhabitants with cheap vodka from smuggling. His alleged partner Janusz holed up somewhere near a village with an absurdly long and meaningless name and refuses to provide any information. Janusz's righteousness cannot be questioned, but fortunately some of the inhabitants his silence gives some food for thought.
EDITOR: Yeeah... In addition to the bridges, we have another major investment in the process, the Transchryjan Railway!
B. ARCYREWICZ: Our great and wonderful Transchryjan Railway is overgrown with bushes and the areas for most of the route are not even expropriated yet. Unofficially, I know that this entire investment is also a nice mess. After recent geological research, it turned out that our land is rich in various deposits, which with the appropriate authority would certainly allow for rapid development of the Republic and ensuring the prosperity of the working people. Iwanovich with his colleague Janusz were so happy that, in the surge of creativity, our president decided that it would be a good idea to build a railway line connecting both borders through the mountainous areas of Chryja. To this date, only a few tunnels and a section of the track have been built. There are still many rails to be nailed in and many inhabitants to be resettled. I suppose during these elections the situation in our country changes a bit for the better and the new person in charge will not be afraid of the sea and ships and will put a halt to absurd decisions like this ridicoulous investment.
EDITOR: (moment of silence) I can see that our time is running out, let's thank our interlocutor and nowe we invite you ... (in the background you can hear quick steps and scuffles) ... to the concert of wishes ... (muffled screams) of Radio Chryja Pracująca ... (crackles, moment of silence after which the music starts playing as if nothing had happened)

After the radio broadcast, the editor and his interlocutor were nowhere to be seen and even the president of the entire station changed quickly. However, this significantly increased the anxiety of the Chryjan population and despite the still cheaper vodka, Ivan Ivanovich lost the election. You became the new president... tl; dr
Apparently the author of this map has been smelling some weird shiz and made up some ridicoulous LORE clusterfrick and thinks someone will be reading it.
Generally, it is a mountainous map, it may be quite a pain to develop, but at least the deposits are difficult to access.
