Firearms of Hunt: Showdown
By viledagame
Hunt has amazing antique weapons that are carefully crafted by skilled developers. However, due to both artistic vision and copyright problems; weapons have different names and backstories. This guide will contain the real world history of those firearms. I will try to update the guide as new weapons roll out with updates. This guide is as of 19th of January, 2023

I initially wrote this guide as an afterthought at night, and just realised how awful both grammer and information were. I will overhaul the guide as best as I can

Nagant M1895

Nagant M1895 was designed by Leon Nagant, a belgian gun designer, and was put on production in 1895. Although reminiscent to the other revolvers of the time, M1895 had the uniqe feature of gas-seal while firing; which concentrated the gas cumuliating after firing to leave through the barrel, thus allowing M1895 to be suppressed properly. 1895 saw service in many conflicts thorugh early 20th century and was the common sidearm of both imperial and soviet armies. In 1930's, Tokarev's magazine fed pistol started replacing 1895's but outbreak of the war meant many auxiliary troops kept using M1895
Scottfield Model 3 (Smith & Wesson No.3)

Iconic and ahead of it's time, Smith and Wesson No. 3 was both successful and innovative. It's top break action allowed No.3 users to reload way quicker than other revolvers, whilst having very good stopping power thanks to it's .44 caliber rounds. No.3 was a huge success both domestically and internationally, russian army ordered 20.000 units; which were named No.3 Russian and were chambered in .44 russian, which made the handgun extremely accurate. No.3 was outphased by the beginning of 20th century, despite that it served in world war one by many countries which lacked handguns
Caldwell 92 New Army (Colt M1892)

Colt 1892 was designed to replace the army's aging SAA's and was put into service around 1890's. Double action unlike it's predecessor, M1892 was better in every category except stopping power. New .38 Long Colt rounds didn't have the enough stopping power and this was made clear when soldiers in Philippines reported that filipino rebels were able to absorb nearly an entire cylinder of .38 rounds and would keep moving. Though Colt later issued .38 special and .445 versions of this revolver, lack of stopping power army desired gave birth to the legendary M1911 and .45 ACP
Caldwell Pax (Colt Single Action Army)
''This is the greatest handgun ever made, Colt Single Action Army. 6 bullets, enough to stop anything that moves''
-Revolver Ocelot

Legendary revolver of wild west, SAA was both accurate and powerful. It's lightweight single action trigger allowed the user to quickdraw and shoot without having to put much force to the trigger. SAA was the face of the law in the american west, most famously the handgun of Wyatt Earp. Despite it's success, invention of smokeless gunpowder and advancements in double action revolvers meant both Single Action Army and it's double action brother Colt Lightning were made obsolete and SAA was replaced by Colt M1892 as the standart issue handgun
Caldwell Conversion (Colt Navy Model Conversion)

Colt Navy Model 1851 was arguably one of the most successful Colt designs, served around the globe within the ranks of both navies and armies. Though nearly after 10 years after it's inception, handgun became nearly obsolete thanks to the advancements in cased ammunition. This shift from cap and ball to cartridges led to the Conversion model of the 1851, which replaced it's cylinder to
accommodate cased ammunition and added an ejector rod to the side of the barrel. Many conversions were made, ranging from .36 caliber rounds to rifle rounds
Bornheim No.3 (Bergmann 1896)

Designed by Louis Schmeisser and sold by Theodore Bergmann's company, Bergmann 1896 was not successful commercially but showed a huge leap in firearms technology from revolvers to self loading handguns. Earlier models had huge flaws and were rejected by some european armies during trials, but this didn't stop Schmeisser to improve the design. Finally, in 1896, handgun took it's final form and most reliability problems were addressed; but it's commercial success was limited and armies of europe were hesitant to adopt Bergmann 1896, as Mauser started the mass production of their groundbreaking handgun C96 the same year. No.3 means the handgun is chambered in 6.5mm rounds, which didn't have the stopping power of it's rivals
LeMat Mark II (Le Mat Revolver)

Designed by Jean Alexandre LeMat, Lemat revolvers were similar to other cap and ball revolvers but had a smoothbore middle barrel to fire buckshot. Rare but iconic, Lemat's were used by confederation during the civil war and became the symbol of the confederate army. During the civil war, Lemat's had to be imported from France and each model differed from each other in terms of ammunition. After the civil war, remaining Lemat's were mostly preserved in private collections; though some were converted to accomidate cased ammunition like Colt Navy Conversion. 20 gauge buckshot replaced the smoothbore barrel while many different calibers of ammunition were used for the cylinder magazine
Dolch 96 (Mauser C96)

Gun that revolutionized the small caliber firearms of the time, Mauser C96 was developed by Feederlee brothers and was manufactured by Mauser. It's reliability and cheaper cost made it stand out against it's competitors of the time, while it's higher caliber gave it a better stopping power. Pre-Production models used 7.65mm while the flagship model used the high velocity 7.63mm cartridges. C96 became an instant success as both German and Ottoman armies placed large orders, followed by Italy, China, Spain and many other countries. Winston Churchill himself loved and praised C96 as one of the finest handguns to be made. Went on to serve in many conflicts even though it was made obsolete with the more modern mag-fed handguns
Springfield 1866

Springfield Model 1866 is the second series of musket conversions to breechload rifles. This rifle uses trapdoor breech-loading system, this design paved the way to Springfield Model 1873 Trapdoor. 1866 model used .50-70 cartridge
Vetterli 71 (Repetierstutzer Vetterli, Modell 1871)

Vetterli Model 1871 Carbine was a swiss bolt action rifle. Carbine model had double set trigger and shortened barrel. Vetterli rifles were chambered in 10mm ammunition, Italian Army adopted the Vetterli design with box magazine. Vetterli Rifles were also used by US workers during Coal Wars. Vetterli has many variants, but the one in-game is Modell 1871 Carbine
Winfield M1876 Centennial (Winchester Model 1876)

Winchester had success domestically with repeater rifles, but many buyers abroad weren't interested in repeater rifles. Until Ottoman-Russian war of 1877-78, Winchester rifles were popular only domestically. Law enforcement units wanted a stronger repeater with large caliber bullets, especially Northern Mounted Border Guard. Model 1876 was designed this in mind, with 4 different cartridge options. But the most famous one was 45-75mm cartridge
Winfield M1873 (Winchester Model 1873)

Arguably the most famous Winchester repeater rifle, Model 1873 was also known as ''the gun that won the west'' Repeater was chambered for .44-40 centerfire. Success of Model 1873 was exceptional, with many replicas are still being manufactured and sold. Although it success domestically was great, like many repeaters; it became successfull in europe after the Ottoman-Russian war of 1877-78. Foreign reporters praised the rapid fire capabilities of Winchester rifles used by Ottoman soldiers, despite Ottoman Army faced a crushing defeat during the war; rifle became famous because of few instances and was used by Ottoman Army during Balkan Wars and even World War One
Martini-Henry IC1

Workhorse of the British Empire until Lee-Metford and Enfield bolt action rifles, Martini-Henry was durable, powerful and was easy to produce and repair. Rifle had a simple loading and firing system which allowed for rapid fire compared to average breech loading rifles. First appeared in 1871 to replace Snider rifles, first models were .577 cartridges. However as time progressed .303 British and 7.65 Ottoman models were converted. US also produced Peabody-Martini rifles but they were mostly for export, Ottoman Army bought most of its Martini rifles from US. While British Empire outdated frontline usage of Martini Henry by WWI, lack of industry in Ottoman Empire meant that 500.000 Martini Henry rifles saw extensive usage (Ottoman Army had the total of approximately 1.000.000 Rifles when war broke out)
Sparks LRR (Sharps Rifle)

Sharps Rifle was designed in 1848, and could be described as the ancestor of long-range rifles. This rifle was renovned for its long range accuracy. Sharps Rifles saw service during american civil war, and were used by both sides. As time progressed, Sharps rifles were chambered in different calibers. However initial models had 0.52 inch cartridge. Model in-game is the long range variant of the rifle
Lebel MLE 1886

Lebel 1886 was designed in 1885 by the order of Boulanger, and became a revolutinary design. It was the first smokeless gunpowder bolt action infantry rifle. In 1893, it received a modernization and went on to serve in WW1. It's main drawback was tubular magazine and elevator system, which was tricky to learn and had longer time to reload. Despite the lenghty reload, Lebel outperformed every other rifle in the world at the time. Lebel rifle was also shipped to US for both evaluation and during WW1, for US expeditionary force
Berthier MLE 1892

Berthier rifle was a carbine designed in 1890 for french forces. French army wanted a shortened version of Lebel rifle but tubular magazine made that impossible. So Berthier was born with it's mannlicher type magazine. Berthier Model 1892 is the one we are going to focus on. Model 1892 had curved bolt handle, 3 bullet magazine and shortened length. Berthier went on to serve during both world wars, an extented magazine version was finally developed in 1916; increasing magazine capacity to 5, which was the most common magazine size during that period of bolt action rifles
Krag/Springfield 1892

Krag-Jorgensen was a rifle serie developed in late 1880s, Krag rifles were adopted by Denmark, Norway and US. Krag was underpowered because of it's construction which limited it's ammuniton to low power cartridges. When Norway and US adopted Krag as their standart issue rifle, even the designers were shocked

1892 Springfield Krag used .30-40 cartridges, these cartridges would be loaded into a side magazine. Krag had a short lifespan in US army due to it's inferior stopping power. During the Spanish-American war, Spanish soldiers outperformed their American opponents thanks to their Spanish Mauser rifles, which led to US developing it's own Mauser: M1903 Springfield, which had stronger stopping power. As Theodore Roosevelt once said; No tree can save you from a Mauser bullet

Danish and Norwegian Krags went on to serve in WW2, while US outphased them before WW1
LeMat Carbine

LeMat rifle was similar to it's handgun brother; though there were clear distinctions between two

LeMat rifle used .44 caliber rounds for it's pistol caliber and fired 16 Gauge Buckshot from it's smoothbore barrel. While LeMat pistols mostly used cap and ball ammunition, LeMat rifle used modern cartidges. Rifle had 9 round revolving magazine with colt style ejector and loading assist. Though cap and ball LeMat rifles existed too

Main problem with the rifle was that it didn't have a forward handguard and was inferior to it's lever action competitors. Like LeMat pistol, it was very rare
Mosin Nagant M1891 (3-Line Rifle Model 1891)

Known by many names, it's offical designation is actually 3-Line Rifle due to legal disputes. Mosin-Nagant M1891 was the first repeating fire modern rifle of the Imperial Russian Army. Designed after heavy casualities suffered from repeater-armed Ottoman forces in Ottoman-Russian War of 1877-78, a new rifle design began in 1889. Russian designers first evaluated the Lebel rifle but were not satisfied with the design. So the Mosin-Nagant 1891 was born and went on to production approximately same year. However, industry of Russian Empire wasn't capable of mass-producing Mosin Nagant's at the desired rate so both French and US companies also produced large amounts of Mosin Nagant's on the behalf of Russian Army, however these rifles were also sold domestically
Romero 77
Interestingly, Romero 77 is a fictional gun based upon local single shot hunting rifle designs. I couldn't find any weapons that resemble the name Romero nor produced in 1877 with a serial. There aren't any sources I could find about a real life romero 77

Update!
As stated in the comment section, there are single shot shotguns that look identical to Romero 77 such as Harrington & Richardson Topper and Henry Single Shot, however both of these guns are way past the timeline of Hunt

Thank you Loke for the info
Caldwell Rival 78 (Colt Coach Gun)

Coach gun is a wide term used in American West. They were side-by-side double barreled 10 or 12 gauge black powder buckshot shotguns. One in game is close to Colt manufactured coach gun, however there's little to no details about the gun
Specter 1882 (Spencer 1882)

Spencer 1882 was the first successful pump action shotgun design. Although the mechanism was bit complex and reloading was lenghty, this design paved the way for more contemporary designs. Weapon was designed by Christopher Spencer and was produced between 1882 to 1902. It was chambered in 12 gauge buckshot
Winfield 1893 (Winchester 1893)

Precursor of the famous Model 1897 Trench Gun, first Winchester shotgun designed by Browning was made in 1893; however it wasn't reliable as the new shotgun shells tend to broke the barrel. 1893 model was also chambered in 16-gauge, however most widespread gauge was 12. Improved model 1897 went on to serve in both world wars, however 1912 model removed the iconic exposed hammer of 93 and 97 models
Winfield 1887 Terminus (Winchester Model 1887)
Hasta la vista, baby

Winchester 1887 was a lever action shotgun manufactured between 1887 to 1920. In 1901 shotgun was modernised for smokeless gunpowder shells and became model 1901. Although this shotgun wasn't very popular at the time of it's production, it's appearence in Terminator 2 made it famous today
Crown & King Auto-5 (Browning Auto-5)

Browning Auto-5 was a shotgun designed in 1898 and was produced between 1902 to 1998. It was the first successful automatic shotgun design. It came in 3 different gauges, 12 16 or 20 gauge. Even though Auto-5 was designed in 1898 and game takes places currently in 1895; this means we could hope for a time jump to 1905 or 1910 for even more firearms in game. Browning Auto-5's design paved the way to today contemporary semi-automatic shotgun designs like M1014, Benelli 12G and many others. Auto-5 went on to serve in Imperial Russian Army and Belgian Army during WW1. During the prohibiton era, it became popular amongst law officers
Nitro Express Rifle

Nitro rifles are a type of rifle that fires extremely powerful cartridges for big game hunting. There are tons of different nitro rounds but the on in game is probably .577 Nitro, and the gun is probably based off of a custom made Holland & Holland Nitro Express Rifle. These guns were used for big game hunting, which are also referred as elephant rifle

keizPH 5 Mar @ 12:30am
thanks :D love seeing guns on video games but sadly they can't use real name all the time because of lawsuit related issue. Guides like those is really helpful when i'm trying to find a real life version of a gun. I hope you continue to update this guide as new guns will be coming to hunt like colt lighting rifle and marlin 1894 in the desolation event.

possibility of an uppermat is likely, since lemats were rather special-made and were produced in very unorthodox calibers

also thank you for reminding me that this guide existed, I have to fix the broken grammer one day to make it readable

i think lemat uppermat is a fictional gun

Huot automatic rifle is converted Ross Mk3 rifle. There were never used because the war was over by the time it was produced. It was way cheaper to produce than to buy other LMG.
this is peak form 15 Oct, 2022 @ 8:12pm
i liked the guide but calling the devs skilled is a fuckin' joke mate. they outsourced the 3d models for most of the guns
viledagame  [author] 14 Oct, 2022 @ 7:29am
there were attempts to convert straight pull bolt action rifles into portable automatic rifles in late 1890s, but none of them really worked out well in real life. Most of the plans were dumped after the success of Madsen Gun in 1902
