Rimworld got pretty decent mutli-version support sometime after the 1.0 release, so unless it's going through some fundamental rewrite of common-access .dll files, you should be able to just keep older versions in the same mod folder since Rimworld will only grab the relevant one to the current version if the configs are properly versioned.
I believe the accepted best-practice on the modding Discord is maintaining current version and 1 version back at the minimum in the Steam release since some people wait until their whole modlists are updated before updating the game itself.
