SMR Cavarna (Neutrality Marks)

The SMR Cavarna was a Romanian Motor Ship for passengers and cargo built to serve the Transatlantic Route for the Romanian Maritime Service. In 1941, during the Second World War the Romanian Goverment rented the ship to the Kriegsmarine, which used it as a cargo and wounded transport. Initially, the Kriegsmarine planned to transform the Cavarna in a Hospital Ship, but since the Soviet Union did not recognize Hospital Ships as a principle she was used as a wounded transporter and could carry 60 wounded men. With this status she could transport troops and provisions to the front and was armed with two 20mm Flak Cannons.
In December 1941 she sank after hitting a mine.
