In this guide i will show you how to get the ghost right every time when you play phasmophobia. (this guide is not a joke!)

About

After this guide you will never fail a ghost type (almost never in nightmare). With my experience with this game:

Ever wondered why the game is too hard? Well it's not gonna be read the guide and BOOM! the game will be easy or maybe too easy!

I will be always updating the guide when a new update comes out!

🔴Ghosts (A-J)

Banshee

Will target only one player at a time,
Will always have a melodical type of ghost event,
Howl when you're holding the paramicrophone.

Demon

Can start a hunt on avarge sanity 70% or lower,
Has a special ability to hunt at 100% sanity or lower.

Deogen

If you are standing in 1m radius with the ghost and try spirit box there is 33% chance that it will play his breathing,
Walks very slowly when it's close to you, he can always see you even if ur hiding.

Goryo

Can only be seen interacting with D.O.T.S. through a camera when nobody is nearby
On Nightmare Difficulty:

Hantu

Has freezing breath while hunting(only in ghost room)
On Nightmare Difficulty:

Jinn

Can’t turn off breaker,
Travels at faster speeds if its victim is far away

🔴Ghosts (K-P)

Mare

Can’t turn on a light,
Can flip off a switch immediately after you turn on a light

Moroi

Can curse players via talking to him with spirit box, breath ghost event, parabolic microphone. That means your sanity will drop even if you are standing in light and sanity will drain twice as fast.
If you take sanity pills the curse will get removed.
The ghost will walk slower during the hunt if you have high sanity and if you have low sanity it will be faster.

Myling

Has quieter footsteps during a hunt

Obake

Has a small chance of leaving six-fingered handprints,
Can also not leave fingerprints 50% of time
On nightmare difficulty:

Oni

Has a special throwing ability where it can throw an object twice as far as twice the speed of a normal object,
Increased activity and ghost events

Onryo

The presence of flames reduces the Onryo's ability to attack

Phantom

Slowly blinks when hunting,
When taking photo during event he will disappear immediately

Poltergeist

The only ghost that can throw multiple items at once

🔴Ghosts (Q-Z)

Raiju

Disrupts electronic equipment from further away when it hunts,
Extra fast around electrical equipment

Revenant

Walks very slowly when if you are not in his line of sight

Shade

Can only hunt below an average sanity of 35%,
Will give less interactions(shy ghost)

Spirit

When smudged will be stuck for 180 seconds and can’t hunt (only if you are in the same room)

Thaye

75% Average Sanity threshold for hunts,
Every 1 – 2 minutes the ghost will try to age; If any players are inside the location and in the same room as the ghost it will succeed, if not 30 seconds will be added back on to the timer until it tries again.
Each ‘age’ will lower the ghost’s stats and traits.
- -6% average sanity threshold for hunts,
- Will lower speed,
- -15% chance for ghost events,
- -15% interaction rate

The Mimic

Has 3 evidences on nightmare,
Can copy abbilities from other ghosts (example: Obake's six-fingered handprints),
Changes the ghost type every 30secs to 2min,
Can only mimic ghosts that have same evidence(spirit box, fingerprints, freezing temps)

The Twins

The twins are two separate ghosts but only one of them is “the main ghost”. That one is in the ghost room while the other one, “the decoy” can roam the map and try to throw you off.

Wraith

Doesn't leave footprints,
Can teleport which causes random EMF reading

Yokai

Can only hear voices close to it during a hunt,
Has a special ability to hunt at 80% sanity

Yurei

Will close fully open doors to fully close,
Has ability to drop sanity by 15%

🔴Strategies

Deogen

Try to place salt and where the footsteps end try to talk with a spirit box and if you do it right you might hear his breathing

Yokai

Try to talk when it's hunting(if he's not close) and won't come to your location that means it's a Yokai!

Wraith

Try to place some salt in ghost room with uv light and if there are no footprints that means it's a Wraith!

Phantom

While he's hunting try to look at him if he slowly blinks with a smudge stick.

Onryo

To test for an Onryo is to place a crucifix, followed by a lit candle directly on top, with possibly two such setups at once, or even more lit candles nearby.
If the crucifix burns without the candle (or surrounding candles) going out first, then it is not an Onryo.

Myling

During hunt go somewhere to hide and listen for footsteps,
if you can barely hear the sound of footsteps it's Myling!

A few points of clarification on The Mimic:

-The Mimic ALWAYS leaves Ghost Orbs and cannot hide them on Nightmare... however the orbs are to be treated as a bonus evidence (which means a total of four evidence will appear outside of Nightmare).

-The Mimic can imitate ANY ghost - counting the aforementioned Ghost Orbs it shares evidence with every single ghost in the game so that supposed restriction is a moot point.

-While The Mimic can randomly imitate other ghosts behaviors/abilities... it cannot trigger unique evidence characteristics unless it can leave that evidence behind (In other words - The Mimic *can* potentially leave Obake's six fingered prints, but it can *not* use the Goryo's unique ability to only trigger the D.O.T.S. Projector exclusively on a camera)

Hey there, heres a little tip for the Thaye. Using the Ouija Board and asking its age will give a higher answer when its actually ages in game. Perfect way to identify the ghost within 2 minutes.

@sO_roNerY those what you call "airball" are ghost breath screams. For yokai thanks for spotting the mistake it should be now written as yokai.

Oni can not apparently produce "airball" ghost events. To those that do not know what "airball" is, when you hold up a camera or the video camera you will likely see a smoke fog event moving towards your direction. When this happens you will hear the "hiss" sound.

This needs to be fixed:

"Yokai
Try to talk when it's hunting(if he's not close) and won't come to your location that means it's a Yurei!" It's suppose to be Yokai.

Still not fixed even though you commented it is.
