When I first encountered it, the character swum to the fish and I couldn't control it. I didn't know what to do, so I used a survival knife on the fish. Later, when the fish tried to hypnotize the character, I just activated the knife, and the fish immediately moved away.

Sometimes I go quickly afk in a "safe" area for 5 seconds and a mesmer takes that to there advantages because I forgot to pause.
