U-1 "Perch"

Built in the 1890s, the Perch was meant to prove the concept of a diesel-electric submarine. It is objectively a bit terrible, but thats okay because it works and is cute (debatable).



The perch is relatively easy to operate. Due to its experimental status it is pretty bone simple, and therefore it isnt much to do. Motor throttle controls electric motor, engine starts the engine, depth hold hold depth, etc.

ballast key makes it go to neutral ballast. its pretty reliable i think dont worry about it

The most complicated part is the clutch control panel, which controls the various clutches on the driveshaft. This funny infographic below tells you what each of em do. Look at it for a good while and you can realise the ins and outs.

(mostly) only levers and keys on this one for the ancient vibe. tactile mfer.
