I played Carmageddon also back in those days (in VGA 320x240 on my Pentium100 :)
From Blood I only played the demo what was very good, also Shadow Warrior and offcource Duke Nukem 3D.
But my preference was more to DooM 1 & 2 (then on avery slowmotion stuttering speed on my 80386DX-40 so slooooow :) Heretic was much later because it needed at least a 486DX (not SX).
3D shooters were always my favorites and Unreal, Quake & Quake II were my favo's on the P100 with 3DFX Voodoo 4 MB.
I'd say Heretic is a better game, a much more polished one, however the dark atmosphere present in Witchaven makes it more enjoyable to me.
I heard about the high res mod although I didn't want to change the original game too much in order to preserve the original setting. BuildGDX is useful to record it in high res without changing the original models.
I'm imaging this game with the Heretic weapons <3
PS this GDX mod is not the highres mod I think cause I saw some vid's with the latest GDX mods with much more skyboxes and textures.
PS2 And now we are awaiting for the gameplay video of Witchaven II
