How to unlock FF7R enhanced graphical options to fix stutters, 21:9 + FOV edit, saves, new outfits & fixed button prompts
By The Gambler
I've been messing around with FF7R mods since the Epic release. Here are some of the best I have found in one convenient list. Also left a section for modding the original release of VII. Let me know if you have any questions in the comments!

General FAQ
  • Do I need to play the original FF7 first?

No, not exactly, but it’ll enhance your enjoyment if you did. However, if all you know of Cloud and Sephiroth is from Smash Bros. I think you’ll still be okay understanding the plot. I would just recommend either going back after beating FF7R and playing the original modded on Steam (links to mods below in the FAQ) or playing the mobile ports for iOS[apps.apple.com] or Android[play.google.com]

  • How long to beat FF7R?

About 40 hours give or take[howlongtobeat.com]

  • What does Intergrade mean? Is there a difference between Intergrade and Intermission? Are there any DLC's?

Intergrade was the name given to the next-gen PS5 upgrade of FF7R. Intermission refers to the 2 chapter Yuffie DLC that is included as a bundle with the base game.

  • When does Part 2 release? How many parts are there?

FF7R2 just had a trailer drop a few days ago. It's a confirmed three part game.

  • Is this a full game?

YES!!! Think of it as playing a sequel and not a remake, with each part inspired by each original FF7 PS1 disc.

  • Is there an easier way to do all of this?

Nexus Mods has a launcher called Vortex[www.nexusmods.com] which enables single-click installation of mods and version updating for mods.

  • Will I still be able to obtain achievements with FF7hook mod for FF7R?

Yup! Since those mods only unlock the game's pre-existing Unreal 4 engine developer settings, Steam does not think you are editing files in such a way that would make you ineligible for unlocking achievements.

Modding Resources for Final Fantasy VII, VIII:R and FFIX On Steam
  • But I just wanted a prettier remaster version of the original FF7!

Cool, cool. Check out 7th Heaven[github.com] and Tsunamods [7thheaven.rocks]for modding [forums.qhimm.com]the original FF7 Steam version.

Below I've embedded a list of my mods list of 7th Heaven mods in the mod manager that I currently use as well as Game Driver settings for FFNx.dll. I recommend the canary builds of 7th Heaven and FFNx because they're updated more frequently and can offer expanded functionality. If you experience instability, please change to the stable branch. The first mod in my list is just an upscale of the original splash logos instead of the one that comes with the mod. If anyone wants it, leave a comment and I'll throw up a share link. Steam achievements will still register if you toggle on the option in the 7th Heaven launcher and leave Steam open in the background. Here are some gameplay screengrabs of what your end result can look like:

  • Are there any mods to improve FFVIII: Remastered or FFIX?

Sure are. Here are some great resources:

Ultra-widescreen support, multi-monitor support & FOV adjustments
Flawless Widesreen[www.flawlesswidescreen.org]

Download and install the above installer.

As per pcgamingwiki[www.pcgamingwiki.com]:
Use Flawless Widescreen. This may result in FMVs being heavily cropped. A workaround is to tap F11 to switch to Windowed mode and also use the Flawless Widescreen hotkey (Ctrl+Alt+Z by default) to disable the fix during the cutscene. Tap F11 again and re-enable the fix with the hotkey when the cutscene ends to restore the fix and Borderless Fullscreen mode.[1] You can simplify the process by changing the hotkey in Flawless Widescreen to also be F11.
Modding FF7R Part 1 and Intergrade
Step 0: Make sure your graphics driver is up to date with 511.65 or above if on NVIDIA. There was a specific patch in the driver confirmed to fix FF7R stutters as per NVIDA reps:
https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/si564s/nvidia_told_me_today_that_the_new_driver_51165/

Also make sure you set your framerate to 90 or 120fps to disable the dynamic rez settings SqEx baked in for some reason.

Step 1: Follow linked instructions to install FF7hook mod from Nexus Mods:
https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/74

Extract and install the above to the path of your Steam install directory: End\Binaries\Win64 folder. Engine.ini and xinput.d should live in the same folder as the exe. Pay attention to the sample engine.ini. The next step will have us copying and pasting into it.

Step 2: Follow the settings at pcgamingwiki [www.pcgamingwiki.com] and edit your engine.ini files as desired by copy and pasting code entries into engine.ini with notepad. Don’t forget to hit save.

Step 3: Optional tweaks for additional graphically fidelity for high or low end cards can be found at:
https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/98

Optional 4K Texture pack, recommended for 8GB VRAM+:

Step 4: Fixed button prompts in game per controller:

Troubleshooting
Some instructions might be out of date on Nexus Mods and may still be referencing the Epic version. For the Steam edition, I believe leaving both of the files from the ffviihook mod in the same folder as ff7remake_.exe under End\Binaries\Win64 is all you need to do, then make the desired edits to the resulting engine.ini file there.

Now if you make your tweaks and you find your changes to engine.ini aren’t working, try creating a folder path structure as below, based on the notes from the ffviihook mod:

“Game will now read from the standard UE4 INI files such as Engine.ini / Input.ini / etc, if they're inside the "Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\" folder (WindowsNoEditor may need to be created) - see the included Engine.ini for how to set up automatic CVar changes etc.”

If your dev console isn't showing:
If the console doesn't show up for some reason or your keyboard doesn't contain a Tilde key, you can rebind the console key by creating a "Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Input.ini" file, with the following inside it:

[/script/engine.inputsettings]
ConsoleKeys=P

Make sure game is closed before saving that - once it's in place launch the game again and press P at the menu, hopefully the console should show for you!
You can try changing P to any other key you like, most seem to work, but some like the F1-F12 keys seem to have issues for whatever reason.

I've also heard that something related to Engine.ini / DefaultEngine.ini files may prevent console from showing properly - not really sure why that would be so, but if you still can't access console maybe try removing any previous INI mods first (including any .PAK file mods, like most previous INI tweaks were stored in), apparently this has worked for some people.

Also mr gambler, guide maker person, it’s kinda weird and cool that you own all 3 of the games I made personally 100% with my own bear hands especially for you. It’s strange doing console games for a decade and then coming back and seeing how Steam has exploded in functionality, and how people who do cool things now sometimes have my old games (because they’re all from 2010-2012 so everyone should have them by this point lol)

@Atreyis Lortani
Massive warning about “Atreyis Whatshecalled”, the chap who has given himself a way too serious and overwrought name, with a super serious skull avatar, and his strange defence of pedophilia. “Pixels have no age”… like what is he even on about? Why is he lacking such critical social skills?
You can well imagine the content he has on his computer. Given it’s been years since he was last online it seems the law has caught up with him. Defending actual photos of kids in court using his “sure it looks like a child but it’s actually just a photograph and *drum roll* PIXELS DONT HAVE AN AGE! *winks at camera* *judge strikes his gavel fracturing it into a wooden dust*”.
Atreyis Lordyloo: I will pay you five whole English pounds to livestream yourself getting caught thanks to your friend who knows your deep dark secret and thankfully, valiantly reports you to the police, to use this age-of-pixels argument in court.

It’s all about what it represents.

Neato! I’ll have to try these things out maybe later. I just want to see if I can improve this image a tad on my wee steam deck.

Hi there! this is the discussion that i need most, about modding FFR.
I have the epic games version, and actually the default fov was too low.
Then donwloaded and applied fov 90 at "FFVIIRemakeIntergrade\End\Content\~mods" from your link in discussion.
Unfortunately it doesnt work.
But, using console command and set manually fov 90, it worked, sadly the cutscene was affected too. Felt so weird.
How to make fov 90 mod works in epic games version?
Thank you in advance.

@ZeroInfinity
It is completely untrue that adult content is visible on Nexus Mods by default, if you are seeing adult content it means one thing, YOU TURNED IT ON in your profile. If you don't want to see it go into YOUR PROFILE and turn it back off
