Main Story Quests (Act I)
These are achievements that are related to progression through the main story arc in Divinity: Original Sin.

  • Caught in the Game (miss-able)
As one of your characters is engaged with the drunken Legionnaires dialogue at the start of the game (X=355, Y=85), select the other and attempt to cross the bridge. The Legionnaires will not be amused by your attempt at circumventing them, and will turn hostile, unlocking this achievement. (thanks to DarkShoal and aramintai)

  • Trick Bag
After you have encountered your first Star Stone and been whisked away to the Shelter plane, you will be given a teleportation pyramid. There is a second one in Cysael town, in the bathroom adjoining Mayor Cecil's residence (X=255, Y=205), that you can teleport to by using the pyramid you have. (This second one will become useful much later in the game, so be sure to pick it up and drop it into your inventory.)

  • Suspicious Minds
Unlocked by finding the "suspicious" bloody knife in the hidden backroom of Esmeralda's cellar during the Murder Investigation main quest, and interrogating her about it. The cellar is accessed via a trapdoor (X=300, Y=175) in the back of the Esmeralda's house (a key to enter through the back door can be found upstairs). Once in the cellar, removing a couple of hams hanging on hooks will reveal a small button that can be pressed to move the bookcase away from the doorway to the hidden room containing the clue. (thanks to axostis for providing the exact requirements)

  • I Walked With a Zombie
Find Evelyn in her secret hideout (X=80, Y=280), and kill her, allowing you to talk to Zombie Jake.

  • The One That Got Away (miss-able)
This one requires you to botch the murder investigation quest. After finding all three clues implicating Esmeralda, talk to Aureus to have her thrown into jail. Go to Esmeralda's general store and watch the scene where a Legionnaire spawns and escorts Esmeralda away.

If you visit her in the jail under the Legionnaire barracks, she will likely not be too happy with you, and may refuse to speak with you. One way to get around this issue is to make sure that she has a sufficiently high attitude towards you before getting her arrested, by doing one-sided trades with her (thanks to Draegonis for the tip). If she is on speaking terms with you, she will point the finger at the true culprit, Evelyn. Alternatively, the murder investigation quest can also be continued by breaking into Evelyn's home and finding all of the clues, causing her to skip town and flee to her hideout. Eventually, after you have confronted and killed Evelyn, you can go back to Aureus and have the wrongfully accused Esmeralda sprung from jail. (confirmed by Bukke)

The following two achievements require you to use the Enlightened Amulet (thanks to Nascentes for clarifying) you get off of Evelyn's body to remove the barrier from the area below Cysael church (X=440, Y=390):

  • Undeath Is Just the Beginning
Talk to Thelyron (the Cysael doctor) in the basement of the church, then talk to Arhu.

  • Live Undead
Kill Braccus Rex in the church basement, then talk to Aureus.
Main Story Quests (Act II)
  • Locked In (miss-able)
Loic is the head of the Immaculate cult in Luculla. He sends you on a trial to become a member of the cult. Talking to him at the end of the trial dungeon will result in him becoming suspicious, and running towards the locked room to the right to summon help from the portal. This achievement is granted for pickpocketing the key to the portal room from him before speaking to him here, thereby preventing him from having help during the ensuing fight (unlocks after he is dead). A high level in pickpocketing is required for this, either 4 or 5 base, and possibly 6-7 total including gear bonuses, with Dex playing a role. Thus far, the lowest attributes that have resulted in a successful pickpocket are:

    • Dexterity - 11
    • Pickpocketing - 6 (Base 4, From Gear +2)
(In the above case, Dexterity of 10 instead of 11 will not give a "Skill Level Too Low" message, but all attempts to pickpocket will still fail.)

According to lordfiSh, another stat combination that will work is:
    • Dexterity - 13
    • Pickpocketing - 5 (Base 4, From Renegade Trait +1)

The main takeaway point here is that Dexterity can compensate for low pickpocket, and vice versa.

(big thanks to Bukke for tracking this one down, and to FIGJAM and Keyen for helping to investigate as well)

  • Peace Sells (miss-able)
During the quest to lower the barrier around the White Witch's house in Luculla, you can avoid killing the two mushrooms by finding a magic scroll that eliminates the barrier instead. The scroll is in a hidden mound (X=195, Y=125) to the north and west of the barrier, past a heavily trapped path (X=205, Y=135).

  • Into the Void
Meet the Conduit in Hiberheim, in the northernmost building filled with lava.

  • Forged in Fire
Destroy the elemental staff dropped by Boreas (located in the western "Castle" building in Hiberheim), by dropping it in the Forge where you met the Conduit.

  • Find the White Witch
After the previous event, you will gain an item that can be used to release the White Witch from her prison in Hiberheim.

  • Headlines
After freeing Icara (the White Witch), go back to the Shelter plane and talk to her again (next to the tapestry).

  • Escape
One of the main Act II quests is to investigate the Tenebrium mine (X=95, Y=190) in the center of Luculla Forest. Once you enter the temple at the far end of the mine, an event will trigger and you're forced to find a way to escape the mine. Reaching the surface will give this achievement.

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
Library -> Crypt -> Entrance Hall, to exit. Not too difficult to figure out but had me held up for a bit, hah.

  • Sacrifice
Unlocked by meeting Mangoth in the Immaculate Cathedral (X=210, Y=450) in the central northern part of Luculla. The path to the Cathedral is lined with numerous mines. Once inside, light the four candles in the entrance hall to open a door that allows you to proceed further in.

  • Time to Kill
Unlocked by crafting a spell that makes the normally invincible Death Knights vulnerable. There are two parts needed to make this spell -- 1) Leandra's Spell, obtained from her lab at the rear of the Tenebrium mine, and 2) Vial of Leandra's Blood, guarded by Mangoth in the Immaculate Cathedral. (Some people have reported this achievement not unlocking after crafting the Death Knights Bane spellbook, so it may be partially bugged.)

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
Suggestion: Leandra's spell is obtained from her lab in the High Priest's Office (big blue bubble), accessible from the library(accessible from a portal after meeting Leandra in the mine). Also, may be worth mentioning for the Vial of Blood: Book 'Necronomicon of Cooking'- E.N.S. West, relative to giant compass on floor.

  • Gimme Shelter
At some point in Act II, your shelter plane (Homestead) will come under attack and the entire area will be regularly bombarded by meteorites. In order to resolve this situation, you will need to infiltrate the Void Demon temple (X=100, Y=335) at the far northwest part of Luculla region in an area surrounded by lava, and destroy the overgrown Blood Stone (X=105, Y=460) at the rear of the temple. Note that the demons patrolling around this temple are invulnerable, so it's recommended to send in someone that can either sneak or invis through the area. This will unlock once the Blood Stone, which can only be damaged by Tenebrium weapons, has been destroyed.
Main Story Quests (Act III)
  • Sleeping Village
Unlocked upon reaching Hunter's Edge, in southern Phantom Forest (there are two bridges leading to this area from eastern Luculla).

  • Feeble Screams From Forests Unknown
Unlocks upon entering Phantom Forest safely, by possessing the Phantom Protection Amulet obtained from Zandalor's house. After entering the giant log with the greenish haze, continue past until you are clear of the poison fog and this should unlock.

This was a previously broken achievement that was fixed in 1.0.81. It can still be unlocked in older savegame versions if you have one from prior to arriving at the area next to Phantom Forest portal (next to the southern bridge that leads from Luculla Forest), where the message "Guess we are heading southeast" is shown when you see the poison log for the first time.

  • Grizzled finale
Unlocked upon using the forest spirit's rune to enter the Source Temple at the center of the Phantom Forest.

(Thanks for the Bukke for the final three endgame achievements:)

  • Skull Crushing Finale
Granted for finishing the candle puzzle during the Trial of Ascension inside the Source Temple.

  • The Wizard
Finding Zandalor after the Trial of Ascension and completing the conversation with him.

  • Grande Finale
    Granted for finishing the game.
Side Quests (Act I)
  • Shell Shock
Once you reach the entrance to the tutorial dungeon, go south and then east to find a talking clam on the beach (X=460, Y=70). You can help it out by tossing it back into the ocean for a reward.

  • Fields of Regret
In the storeroom at Cysael Harbor, go into the attached courtyard on the right where you will find two Legionnaires and a charmed female Orc (X=270, Y=75). Tell the Legionnaires to spare the Orc's life. Come back later and the...consequences...will become apparent and this achievement will unlock.

  • The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Test
In the Cysael town graveyard, digging up one of the grave mounds (X=220, Y=250) with a shovel will cause Nemris to pop out. He will quiz you about the contents of the Philosophy of Death book that he wrote. You can find this book in Cecil's library, but it's blank (this is not a bug, but a commentary on Death). The correct answers to Nemris' quiz are 2,2,1.

  • You and Me
You will find Sam the cat in the King Crab Inn (Pet Pal is required to talk to him). He pines after Maxine, Mayor Cecil's cat, and needs you to play matchmaker. To make Sam attractive enough to Maxine, you'll need to find his jewel-encrusted collar near Desdemona, at the bottom of the Black Cove dungeon.

  • Fabulous Disaster
A Fabulous Five representative outside the entrance to the King Crab Inn gives you a quest to destroy Ahru's malfunctioning construct. It can be found in a cave (X=275, Y=375) in the northernmost part of Cysael region. Inside, you will find several more Fabulous Five members. The battle with the SparkMaster robot can be made trivial if you have spoken with Ahru prior, and acquired the remote control for the robot. Pressing the Angry, Angry, Sleepy buttons in that order will cause it to self-destruct, leaving only the skeleton trash mobs to contend with. After dealing with the construct, go back to town and talk to Cecil about the Fab Five.

  • Is Anyone Home
Near the very top of the Cysael map (not far from Evelyn's hideout) is a set of four elemental demon statues guarding the entrance to a cave (X=35, Y=400). Activate each statue by using a spell of the same element as the statue on it, then destroy the activated elemental.

  • Team Roller
Inside the Black Cove dungeon, you'll meet Billeh Gahr, who sets a trap on you. One of your characters will be placed on an instakill trap that will trigger if they move off of it. Use another character (unlink if necessary) to move one of the crates in the room, revealing a button to deactivate the trap.

  • Push It
Again in Black Cove, after going down a hidden trapdoor in the room after the Billeh Ghar trap room, you'll eventually get to an area with numerous trigger buttons. Pressing one of these (it's located below and to the right of the center pedestal) will give this achievement.

  • Keelhauled
Once more in Black Cove, after the area for the previous achievement, you'll find Pontius Pirate. Kill him for this achievement.

  • Wrecking Ball
In western Cysael, next to the Cysael West portal, is a wrecked house with a trapdoor hidden by a rug (X=35, Y=145). Downstairs is a sarcophagus. Drag the lid off of it (simply clicking on it does not work), to release Snorri the phantom. Talk to him, and he will give you a challenge to destroy a blue orb within a 35 second time limit. This achievement, however, is unlocked by failing to do so, which will cause Snorri to demonstrate how to do so by breaking it himself.

  • The Mirror Inside
The Mirror Dungeon puzzle that this achievement refers to is accessed via two sets of trapdoors at (X=110, Y=295) and (X=150, Y=290) in western Cysael, near the cliffs above the beach. One suggested way to solve this puzzle is to send two teams of two characters to each trapdoor. After going through the trapdoors, each area will contain a set of elemental pillars and an inscription describing the order to use the pillars in. Using the pillars in one dungeon in the correct order will cause an enemy to spawn in the other dungeon. Killing it will drop either a round or square amulet. Using these amulets to bring down the barriers at the end of two passages reached from each underground area will unlock this achievement. (thanks to Niv Holson for confirming)

If you already completed the mirror dungeon prior to this previously broken achievement being fixed, you can still unlock it by going back to the dungeon, picking up one of the amulets, then placing it back onto the platform.
Side Quests (Act II)
  • Man on the Silver Mountain
To the southeast of Silverglen (X=225, Y=80), you'll find a man, a woman, and a packmule of sorts -- Alfie. In order to heal Alfie, you will need a Blood Stone, which you can find in the Immaculate dungeon and other places. Afterwards, the party will be ready to set off together to their destination, Silverglen. Escorting all three of them to Silverglen safely will unlock this (you will encounter at least one ambush along the way).

  • Leave My Girl Alone
On the second floor of the Silverglen inn, you'll find a woman being held hostage by a suicide bomber skeleton. One way to resolve this standoff is to use the Teleportation aerothurge spell to toss the bomber away from the woman.

  • Well, Well, Well
In eastern Cysael, south of the church, you will meet a wishing well (X=435, Y=315) asking for help rescuing its twin, which is stranded in the ice region Hiberheim. This quest can be completed in Act II, when you find the alternate path to Hiberheim. After killing King Boreas, on the northern wall (X=240, Y=255) of the room you fight him in, talking to one of the statues and giving the correct answer, Lurrean (thanks to Nascentes), to the question will remove the barrier in the western part of the room, leading to a treasure-filled area that contains a spell that sends the wishing well back to Cysael.

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
Protip: Chest in treasure room requires book bought from Victoria in Cysael ("Forgotten Language of Faery"). Protip#2: F5 before chest. Seems to be guaranteed orange. Protip#3: Wear Royal Guardsmen Amulet, stand in center of treasure room(where star stone was) for ~8sec.

Talk to the first wishing well afterwards to complete this quest.

  • Kingdom Come
This achievement is unlocked by avoiding paying Archibald the troll a toll to cross his bridge. This requires informing him that Troll King Gungnir is dead, which will cause him to leave the bridge and take up the mantle of Troll King. You will not be able to unlock this if you kill Gungnir after having already paid Archibald the toll.

This first requires killing King Gungnir. His lair is located in the southeast (X=340, Y=195), along the way to the Tenebrium mine. You won't be able to get very far into this area without first obtaining a magical scroll that removes the barriers at the entrance, however. This scroll is found in the Lair of Maradino (X=150, Y=260), near the slowing, sandy area in the northwest, above an injured Immaculate member. Using this scroll while standing inside the mushroom circle outside the Troll King Cave allows you full access inside. After killing King Gungnir, you will need to seek out Archibald to finish this achievement. He is found directly east of the Luculla Forest - Goblin Village teleport, guarding the southern bridge to Phantom Forest.

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
May be worth mentioning that the entrance to the Lair of Maradino is hidden. Perception doesn't find it unless you are really close- right next to the rock at the coordinates.
Side Quests (Act III)
  • Whiskey in the Jar
Herschel is the tavern keeper in Hunter's Edge. He needs another batch of Glen's whiskey brewed in order to keep the orcs off his back. Visiting the cellar in Glen's house (west of the tavern) will turn up a book describing how to brew the whiskey.

    1. Go to the water well on the western side of Hunter's Edge. Grab the bucket sitting on it and use it with the well to obtain Bucket with Water.
    2. Go to the farm fields to the southwest and take some Barley (looks similar to Wheat).
    3. Go into the Mill building next to the well and use the Barley on the mill to obtain Grist.
    4. Mix the Grist with the Bucket with Water to obtain Wort.
    5. Use the Wort on the Pot Still in Glen's cellar to obtain a barrel of Spirit.

You now have a barrel of booze, but it needs to be aged several decades (!) to give it the proper quality. To cheat the process, bring the booze to someone who we know has the ability to manipulate time -- Zixzax the imp, in The End of Time -- to have him work his magic on it. Finally, bring the barrel of 30 Year Old Whiskey to Herschel to unlock this achievement.

  • Take No Prisoners
At the start of Act III, you're tasked with entering the Wizard's house at the east end of Hunter's Edge. After finding the key in the beehive and using it to access a hidden trapdoor (X=315, Y=15), you end up in the cellar of the house, where several of the Wizard's servants are holed up. You can get a quest here to disarm the traps in the house to allow the servants to safely return upstairs. After going through the house (in the room with the inactive mirror portal, light the two unlit candles), you should eventually end up in a room with a House Defenses Master Switch. Flip the switch, then return to the cellar. Talking to the mother of the family will grant this achievement. (thanks to Nova, confirmed by Bukke)

  • Amazing
Bellegar is a trickster of sorts. The first place you meet him is inside the elemental demon cave at the topmost corner of Cysael (where the "Is Anyone Home" achievement was). Presumably, opening up the way into this cave is required to unlock further events related to him. In any case, after talking to him, he will disappear.

Bellager makes another appearance much later in the game, near the center of the Phantom Forest swamp, where he lets you pick a treasure from a set of three barrels (X=155, Y=170). Not far from there, directly south of Balberith's shack, at the southern end of the swamp, you will find a large mound of gold. Clicking on it will cause Bellegar to appear once more, this time adding a new Portal to your menu, allowing access to a dungeon containing a single puzzle that shouldn't be too taxing to figure out. Solving the puzzle and opening all three treasure doors grants this achievement. (thanks to aramintai and Jackmoved)

  • Baaaah.
The legend of the Weresheep is first hinted at in a book found in a grave mound in the Cysael church graveyard. It suggests that a certain King Boreas may know more.

After defeating Boreas in Act II and gaining access to his treasure room, you will find another clue pointing you to the Cave of Portals, located in Silverglen region, near the middle of the map and a bit south of where you exited the Trial of the Immaculates. Going inside, you will be in a dungeon very similar visually to the Immaculate dungeon, with various portals inside. Taking the first left portal you see will bring you to a small room. Inside this room is a hidden mound that, once dug up, will reveal the phantom of the Weresheep (possible Perception check here). The ghost will provide the final clue as to the wereabouts of the Weresheep's body.

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
After entering the Ice portal within the Immaculate portal room (south of Sacred Stone), the hidden mound is directly to the left by the foilage. (confirmed with Perception +7, though digging around should work)

Take the Phantom Forest North portal. Go down the path to the northwest to find a rune-inscribed tree (X=125, Y=295) that displays messages from Kickstarter donors. Drag-and-drop a Stardust herb onto the ground directly in front of the tree, and the rather ominous-looking Weresheep will appear in the flesh, netting you this achievement. (thanks to Steam user premium cabins for rent)

Branching Quests (Act I)
These are quests that have multiple endings and an achievement for each ending, requiring you to save and reload to obtain all of them.

  • The Shipless Sailors

At the southernmost dock of Cysael Harbor, there are several sailors trying to put out a fire on their ship. After you assist them (by using Rain on the ship, for example), they will tell you that they are now looking for work. There are two ways of resolving this quest:

The World Needs Guts - The Fabulous Five spokeman outside the entrance of the King Crab Inn can be told that the sailors are looking for work.

Captain Jack - Jack is hanging out at the Cysael open air market area. He's looking for a crew for his ship.

Afterwards, go back to the sailors and let them know which job opportunity they should take (don't forget to quicksave beforehand if trying to get both achievements).

  • The Scaredy Pact

Aureus asks you to find some Legionnaires that he sent to investigate the Lighthouse. The soldiers are a bit north of the actual Lighthouse, which is at the far southwestern part of Cysael region. You should trigger the Cysael West portal on the way there. After dealing with the undead next to the Lighthouse, go back and talk to the Legionnaires again, then go back to Aureus and decide how to report on them:

Brutal Truth - Inform Aureus that his Legionnaries are a bunch of useless, filthy cowards.

Zero the Hero - Lie, and tell Aureus that his Legionnaires are brave heroes, ensuring them a ticket home.

  • Lost Love at the Lighthouse

Again at the Lighthouse, go inside and go down the trapdoor to meet Samson. He will tell you the story of his lost love Desdemona. Finding Desdemona is a somewhat involved process, but Black Cove, west past the Cysael Harbor gate, is where you need to head. After finding her at the end of the Cove dungeon and talking to her, go back to the Lighthouse to decide on Samson's fate.

Forgiven - Convince Desdemona to forgive Samson.

Unforgiven - Tell Desdemona not to forgive Samson.

  • The Preacher of Earthly Delights

Ebenezer is a ghost wandering around near the graves northeast of the Cysael church, in the far northeast part of the region. After talking to him, he'll indicate that he once knew the cat currently known as Sam the Unsinkable. Go back to the King Crab Inn in Cysael town, and ask Sam about Ebenezer's sordid history (requires the Pet Pal feat). Go back to the graveyard to confront Ebenezer.

Echoes From the Past - Confront Ebenezer about his sick past. Allow him to remain in the graveyard for eternity unmolested. He drops a chest with some subpar gear.

Voices From the Past - Confront Ebenezer about his sick past. Choose the option to send him to the Hall of Echoes. Be prepared for a fight. (immune to freezing if you have it...)

(thanks to Nascentes for providing details about the dialogue options for each)

  • Cecil's Mighty Staff

This quest is started by talking to Cecil (the mayor of Cysael), who will tell you about the stolen Staff of Pergamon. He will then direct you to Conrad and his sailors at the harbor for more information. The actual staff is found being carried by a mage on the northern beach of Cysael (not far from Evelyn's hideout). After retrieving it, you can decide what to do with it:

Model Citizen - Return the staff to Cecil.

It Could Be Mine - Tell Cecil that you are keeping the staff.
Branching Quests (Act II)
  • The Legionnaire's Will

Blossius is an undead (but non-hostile) Legionnaire who can be found in a building not far north of Cysael's northern gate during Act I. He will ask you to take his will to his wife Marisa in Silverglen. She can be found inside the inn.

Mister Nice Guy - Simply give Marisa the will, unaltered.

No More Mister Nice Guy - Change the will in your favor by using an Ink Pot and Quill item on the will before giving it to Marisa. (thanks to Mastificator)

You can either find/buy one, or craft it as follows:
    Feather + Knife/Dagger = Quill
Quill + Ink Pot = Ink Pot and Quill

  • The Troll's Bounty

In Silverglen, Brandon (wandering around outside the inn) asks you to bring him a sample of Tenebrium Ore. There are various places you can obtain the ore, including mining it or stealing it from the Immaculate camp in the northeast. Once you have it, you can either give the ore to Brandon, or tell him that you are keeping it for yourself.

You Keep Me Rockin - Inform Brandon that you are keeping the ore.

Truth Be Told - Give the ore to Brandon in exchange for information.

    Nascentes eredeti hozzászólása:
If you choose to give him the ore, he takes back the container(Blood Stone Cage) he provided you and *everything* inside it. It would be wise to move everything but 1 ore out of the container. After giving it to him, selecting option #1 then #1 again will give all of your characters the Tenebrium skill. Choosing to keep the ore- you will keep the container and everything within, however, you miss the chance to learn Tenebrium on all of your characters. F5! (You also need to choose to give him the ore in order to get the proof to finish the quest 'Naked Truth' from Nadia. Not sure if there is any other way.)
Branching Quests (Act III)
  • The Watch is Coming

After exiting east from Hunter's Edge and following the trail of blood, you will eventually come to a small fortress (Knight's Tomb). Break down the portcullis to enter. Once inside, you will encounter a titan who will attack you if the person it is conversing with is not holding the Titan Dictionary from the Wizard's home. In any case, proceed deeper into the fortress (walk on top of the footprints to avoid being instakilled by environmental hazards) until you reach a couple of knights who are on the hunt for imps. You can either send these two on a wild goose chase, or point them to Zixzax (thanks to aramintai):

Disciples of the Watch - After sending them to Zixzax, teleport to the End of Time and watch the cutscene.

The System has Failed - Send them on a wild goose chase, then teleport to Cysael Beach South and check up on their progress (they are slightly north of the drunk legionnaires guarding the bridge who you came across at the very beginning of the game).

  • Balberith

In Act III, while on the trail of the Wizard, you will eventually make your way to the far eastern part of the Phantom Forest swamp, where you will find the demon Balberith in the basement of a shack. He is an old acquaintance of the NPC henchman Jahan, and owns his soul. There are three ways to deal with this encounter:

Raw Deal - Agree to do Balberith's bidding in exchange for the Forest Spirit's rune. This has some additional consequences for Jahan - he will immediately gain a level but lose several spells. This dialogue option may be unavailable if Jahan is not in the party. Also, being eligible for this achievement may also hinge on being eligible for the Declaration of Indifference achievement as well, meaning it may be possible to accept this deal but not get the achievement if you were not also offered the option of giving up Jahan instead. (thanks to Bukke).

Declaration of Indifference - Hear Balberith out, but refuse the deal, offering Jahan's life instead. Jahan will be removed from the party permanently. Presumably, this option is unavailable if Jahan is not in your party. Also, Balberith offering this option is apparently contingent upon your character having a Compassionate/Heartless trait that doesn't lean too heavily in the Compassionate direction. (thanks to ***** and Raptor25)

Run Down the Devil - Refuse to make a deal with Balberith period, leading to a fight. Defeating him will net you this achievement. Balberith is a fairly tough boss, with high evasion and resistances. Each round he will also heal a fraction of his health depending on how many of the four tormented slaves in the room are still alive. If all four are alive, he will heal all of his HP instantly. Therefore, your priority should be to kill all of the slaves first (doing so will also lower his defenses somewhat), then focus on Balberith.

  • A Forge of Souls

One of the main quests in the latter part of Act III is to repair Icara's soul forge to Leandra. There are two methods of doing this (thanks to Bukke):

To Hell with the Devil - The "normal" solution is to kill Cassandra the lich (top of Phantom Forest). If you talk to the various corpses nailed to trees in this area, you'll find out that Cassandra is invulnerable and that she is worshipped at the Temple of Death, which is not far from the log entrance to the Phantom Forest. Getting into the temple is a bit tricky. The first obstacle are the four watcher statues that will cause lava to spawn if they spot you. Next to the lower left statue is a pressure plate that will destroy that statue, opening a narrow but clear path to the center pedestal. Once at the pedestal, reading the inscription in front of it will let you know that only dead things can enter the temple. In order to gain entrance, you will need to do the following:

    1. Select one of your characters to be the martyr. Put the second Teleporter Pyramid that you found in Mayor Cecil's bathroom into this character's inventory.

    2. Kill this character on top of the pedestal and throw the switch to send the corpse into the temple. One way to do this is to walk Madora into the lava spawned by the watcher statues, since she has the ability to cheat death once and remain at 1 HP, then quickly move her to the pedestal and let Burn status kill her (this method also has no risk of her leaving the party due to friendly fire).

    3. Give the other Teleporter Pyramid to a character / party with a resurrect scroll or spell. Use the pyramid to be teleported to the corpse and use the scroll to raise them.

Update: Major thanks to Ser Pounce for pointing out that the pedestal inscription doesn't explicitly state that a corpse is the only thing that will be allowed into the Temple of the Dead. A teleportation pyramid is considered to not be a living thing, and thus placing one on top of the pedestal by itself and flipping the switch will achieve the intended result as well, without requiring a sacrifice on the part of one of your party members.

Once inside, you will need to find Cassandra's skeletal remains in a hidden area and destroy them by attacking them. Doing so will render Cassandra vulnerable. Go back where you originally met her in Phantom Forest and kill her to unlock this.

Wicked Young Man - The alternate method is to take Cassandra up on her offer and kill Ahru, the cat-mage, instead. This is quite tedious, as Ahru has extremely high evasion combined with immense HP, not to mention a particularly obnoxious attack pattern where he repeatedly spams 1 damage hits, drawing out this fight. His physical attacks pose no threat, but he does possess a high damage lightning-based attack that can one-hit lower HP characters, so use the appropriate resistance boosters. Using a character with 100% lightning resistance to tank him is recommended. Accuracy boosting spells like [Melee/Ranged] Precision Stance and Bless / Blessed Earth will help here as well. Other than that, it's just a matter of attrition and whittling his prodigious health down. To make things more annoying, once he reaches 50% health, he will start to use health potions and regenerate spells.

Easy way to do "Wicked Young Man". You need:
    - Feather drop/Teleportation
    - A character to tank Arhu for 1-2 turns.
    What to do:
    - Go to Arhu and using Feather drop transport him to coord x80-y170 - there is a lava trap.
    - Speak with Arhu (using your tank)
    - Throw Arhu to lava. It won't instakill him and he will return to your tank. Just repeat :)
    - Enjoy your achievement

I got suspicious minds by just asking Esmerelda about her husband, didn't find the dagger first.

Just a heads up for the "Escape" Achievement you need to visit the "High Priests Office' and grab the "Leandra's Spell" (Quest Item needed for crafting the spell to kill the death knights) from the top table next to the chest.

I still look back fondly at this guide every so often. It was so much fun being a part of that early discovery scene for any game, but especially one that I loved as much as this one. D:OS II is probably the better game if you objectively compare them, but this one really had a lot of heart and deserved far more attention than it got. One nerd's opinion, at least.

Thanks HoosTrax for spear-heading such a great community effort & of course Larian. I'm glad this game exists and that I got to play it :bhaal: :praisesun:

"Suspicious Minds" may be broken!

In my case the achievement did not pop after confronting her with all evidences!

Solution:
You don't have to collect ANY evidences! If you enter the town of Cyseal for the first time, just run straight to Esmeralda, talk to her and choose "Let's discuss your husband murder", then "I'll take my leave" and it should pop right after.

If this doesn't work, run through all other dialogue options with her. Just remember NOT to present any of the evidences (letter, dagger, book) to her.

(Be sure to have an old savegame from entering the town of Cyseal and you haven't talked to her already).

"Live Undead" is wrong!!

After killing Braccus Rex in the church basement, you have to talk to Lieutenant SELENIA - not Aureus! She is located near the kitchen at the tents of the legionaires, sitting in front of a table with a big map on it. (X: 321 / Y: 220)
