Limiting Bad RNG
We all love the zany builds we come up with and the tense predicaments we find ourselves in when hunting Spirits, don't we? Sometimes, though, we feel like having to deal with a little less RNG. Well, folks, here is a quick and dirty guide to all the pets you can refrain from buying in the web.

That's right! The following pets are either worthless or down-right outclassed by the rest of the cast. Best of all, you can avoid all of these pets and still complete your web!
The Exiles
They may look adorable, but they sure aren't useful :(
  • Beacon - Can help enable some builds in the beginning 0:00 - 5:00 minutes. Becomes pointless, or even problematic, by the time your build is fully online.
  • Chicon Rad - Damage mitigation is already offered within the web without wasting a precious Pet slot/level.
  • Mandrake - Crit already reaches extreme values on the skills where it matters.
  • Nomicron - If this is what would make or break your run you're doing something terribly wrong!
  • Rupert - Eventually you'll only use money for re-rolls and other pets. Rupert is too weak, shops too infrequent.
  • Whoodoo - Unless Whoodoo gets a MASSIVE buff, DoT builds won't be any stronger with him.
Fringe Cases
These pets have some use(s). It will be up to you to decide if they're right for you and your playstyle!
  • Hearty - Dedicated HP drone. Can help power through difficult times. *May become BiS for Hugo!
  • Lockpick - Speed up chest farming to acquire more Ember Cores/Runes/Gold. Speedrun free knockback + heart dispensers.
The True Heroes
Because more levels = more power! Always prioritize these amazing critters!

  • Cici - Because three digit numbers are better than two.
  • Mag Slime - See Cici.

Honorable Mention:

  • Big Tex - Sometimes size DOES matter.
Thanks for reading! Happy Hunting!

Revisions
June 3rd: Swapped Beacon and Hearty. Left a minor note about Hearty possibly becoming a must-have once Hugo is released. Tidied up some punctuation.

I feel like vine is one of the best damaging attack choices in the game now with bulb and shooter so the increase in dot damage from whoodoo is definitely a good option. How many people are maxing out more than 2 abilities consistently?

Could you also add image of those pets too to this guide?

Hello. The game crashes when choosing weapons like Spears and Grand Hex. And it doesn’t matter which hero you play as, and you choose this weapon as the main one before the start or already during the race. An error pops up and prompts you to close the game.

There is one more bug. The talent tree does not have a counter for killing enemies (Blade Banshee),
to unlock the Shadow Shuriken weapon. I have all three maps open, I went through all three maps to the bosses and accordingly killed these warags. But something doesn't work.

In regards to pet skipping in itself, the following groups of pets will lock you out of tree nodes if none are taken:
Rupert/Crys - Lost Nodes: Arrow cluster, +1 damage, some health, rune increase, mining node.
Mandrake/Big Tex - Lost Nodes: Pet Cage speed, Rune increase, XP increase, mining node.
Cici/Hearty/Beacon - Lost Nodes: Darkmoon Grove map and Currency Exchange.
Chicon Rad - Lost Nodes: +1 damage, Shuriken cluster

Chicon Rad - Damage mitigation is huge, I would rate this almost as highly as Cici and Mag. (You only get 3 on the tree). Plus he leads to a +1 damage node. Fringe at worst.

Rupert - If you are going for max levels you want rupert for one simple reason, you can buy xp in shops, it might not be a lot, but 3-4 extra levels for some gold is worth it. Should be a fringe case.

Beacon - This one might become extremely valuable for Hugo, but we will have to wait and see.

Crys - Not sure why its not even on your list, was 100% not worth it, though slightly less useless now that we have the currency exchange. But it's still an optional pet on the d-web.

Thank you, DDR_Freak! That's actually something I should've done from the start.

I would like to request you give the description of what each pet does. I know it's in the game, but if i'm reading this, it means I'm not in the game. Thanks much. ^_^

Thanks for the input, Alamand! I like your thoughts on Hearty, especially in comparison to Beacon. I'll have to review the guide and touch up a few areas.
