Restoring save backups

This is a quick guide to help you restore saves which have been corrupted for any reason.

Locating your save data
To find your save data, complete the following steps.

  1. Open the search field in Windows (bottom left) and type %LOCALAPPDATA% and hit enter.
  2. Find and open the folder called "Chronicon".
  3. Find and open the next folder called "save".

Here you will find all your characters as "name.char", and their backups as "name.char.bak1" and "name.char.bak2". In addition, you will find account-wide data in "global.dat" and your shared stash as "player.stash".
Checking your save data for corruption and accessing backups
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to fix the save files most common problems.

Please note that you must keep the game running in the background while doing these steps! Otherwise Steam Cloud will sync and overwrite your changes, re-downloading the corrupted saves.

  1. Open your character's save file - "name.char" - in notepad or a similar text editor.
  2. If the file is blank, proceed to step 6.
  3. If the file has text in it, scroll to the very end.
  4. The last characters are always
    " }
    - if these are missing, simply add them, and save.
  5. Now, restart the game, and it should see your character fine again! If not, carry on with steps 6-11.
  6. Open the backup files - "name.char.bak1" and "name.char.bak2" - in your text editor.
  7. Are they both blank? Then there is nothing we can do, as the backups are also corrupted. If not, continue with the next step.
  8. For whichever of these files that has data in them, do steps 3+4 to make sure it is correct.
  9. If it's now correct, save and close the file. Rename, move, or delete your "name.char" file.
  10. Now rename the backup file you just accessed and remove the ".bak1" or ".bak2" from the file, so it simply appears as "name.char".
  11. Restart the game, and it should work!

Essences etc are in the "global.dat" file, you can use this guide for that file too :)

Essenses and others stuff are gone also....

But shared stash is empty.... I bought the original game, I load a lot of hours in the game to be able to use saving files from the cloud, and now it is disappearing.
